You are already taking us somewhere beautiful everyday. . Alaska in general! :) And I be you can find people there who like the snow. It's the same way in Michigan. People here claim to hate the snow. . I always tell them they live in the wrong state. Embrace the Snow!!!

Went to the lake near my place in Whitehorse today, to collect leaves and driftwood for the mice. So beautiful and the weather is so wonderful in the moment, felt so grateful to live where I do. We have had snow in the mountains for three weeks now. Our first winter we were told to go for a walk every day no matter how cold to combat cabin fever and to acclimatize to the cold. Worked :) 'Happy Lights' are full spectrum lights mimicking sunlight. Some people get depressed if they do not get enough sunlight and these lights are supposed to help with this. I got a touch of S.A.D. last winter for a week or two during the darkest period. But once the darkest day is over, it seems to get light very, very quickly again. The moon is the best part of winter plus no bears, can walk at night without worry. Take vitamin D in winter, compensates for lack of sunlight, although now that you have been hit by a bus, you do not really have to worry about that anymore :)

  • @untiedshoes90

The light is to prevent seasonal depression from the lack of sunlight or for those who are sensitive to winter. It is basically a uv 'sun'light to help keep your mood and energy up!

I think it's awesome to see the pure joy on your face as you're talking about seeing snow for the first time. As someone from Minnesota, I've seen it every year of my life. I can't imagine how exciting it must be for you to see it. I guess it's about the same as I'd feel to see the ocean for the first time, which I've never done.

  • @Lem0n1215

Let me put this in perspective, Cory.
In Wyoming, there's times when it drops to -15°. Now look at a map of the U.S. and Canada.
Alaska is WAY closer to the pole. I'm not saying that it'll be the worst thing ever, but it's gonna get DAMN cold, not just '0°.' Hope you're ready! :)

    • @ILuvOden
      @ILuvOden 10 лет назад +3

Being an Alaskan I can say that as long as you are near the coast the worst you'll get is -20(this is, of course, excluding the northern coastline) for a few days. Now if he had moved to Fairbanks(a city located in the interior) he would be in for some trouble as it can drop to -45 and stay there for a few weeks. :P

    • @Soli11
      @Soli11 10 лет назад +1

Unfortunately it doesn't always work like that. Sometimes Greenland, for example, have warmer and mild winters than some of the U.S. or Denmark where I live. You don't get much closer to the pole than Greenland. It really depends on so many factors - but Alaska is definitely going to be cold, very cold!

It's funny how we northerner's take our nature for granted. A crystal clear lake is quite common here in Southern Alberta. There are quite a few cliff jumping locations where you can see the bottom of the lake even though its extremely deep. Welcome to nature Cory. Now get your ass out fishing before the season is over.

Cory, NOW is the time to be getting ready for winter. Alaskan winters come earlier and are much colder than what we have down here in the lower 48. Be sure you have a good set of snow tires for the car, warm coats and gloves, and plenty of hot stuff to keep you warm during the winter. Hope you all are doing well.

Cory, I cannot wait for you to experience snow either! I live in New England so I get a lot of snow every year and it is my favorite thing on the planet! My favorite thing to do is to just walk around while there is some nice light, gentle snow fall with a blanket of snow on the ground. It creates this surreal atmosphere where everything seems to just stand still. The earth feels like its sleeping and everything is quiet. The snow creates a soundproof blanket on the ground that masks even your own footsteps and the gentle snow falling from the sky creates puts you in such a calm and relaxed trance. It's quite an experience and I know that you'll enjoy it as much as I do :D During storms is also an awesome experience for different reasons! It's much more exciting and I love you try to run around and try to make it as far as I can before I get pushed over by the wind and fall into the piles of snow on the ground XD it's a lot of fun!

Hi Cory, I have known the existence of your vlog only a few days ago when I saw the video where you learn that Kristen is pregnant. I was looking for a fun way to announce to my family that my wife was pregnant. That 's when I found your vlog so I start watching your videos from the start. I have trouble stop watching your vlog because I find you very inspiring. You give me the desire to go with my family and to run across Canada to visit Alaska but with the baby on the way and the fact that we live in Quebec slows my travel plan. I hope you still make videos for a long time.

Have all VA's snow. It's pretty to look at but having grown up in the tropics, I prefer my temperatures to be in the cool and comfy 50 degrees. As for the light, helps with seasonal depression. A friend went through it pretty rough for a few years after moving from sunny Guam to PA. Like really bad. Stay happy and stay safe!!

. The reason you need the "happy light" is because there isn't as much sun it'll be depressing so the light helps give you vitamin D

When I lived in Denver, we had a week or so that was -20. It was COLD, even my shepherd-husky mix wanted a coat when we went on walks!
But then when it got "warmer", like 20 degrees, everyone was in short sleeves because we felt so warm!
I think spring will be the most dangerous time, with the thaw. Don't want to be on the lake then!

Up here in Bellingham Washington (right below the Canadian Border) we get REALLY DARK weather for many months. Vitamin D is lost during the wintertime...so we ended up getting a very large Happy Light. It's important to get a large one so you can get the Vitamin D you will desperately need. Melatonin is different than the Vitamin D,which is what the Happy Light will bring you. also, please consider getting liquid Vitamin D to take as well...!

I live in Sweden and here we have the same climate and very similar nature. People here get tired, sick and depressed during the dark seasons because of lack of vitamin D that usually are created in the skin when being out in the sun. The lamps are great but It is a more effective idea to start taking a strong vitamin D supplement. The lamps can be a bit pricy. You need to be sure to get a full spectrum light that is as close to sunlight as possible.
    I wish you a wonderful winter!!! :-)

The light also helps your melatonin levels and ultimately make you happy because you'll be sleeping and waking better. It helps when you get the winter blues.

hey cory, I was raised in Alaska for nine years, if your into Chinese food you need to visit this resturaunt called Pagodas its in North Pole, so its a bit out of the way from Anchorage, but its totally worth it. Also every winter there's this park made entirely out of ice complete with mazes, giant slides and ice statues, if you don't go you will never know the true beauty of ice.
Pagodas :431 N Santa Claus Ln, North Pole, AK 99705 and the ice park happens in Fairbanks, also out of the way, but worth it!

Happy light is probably a just a proper full spectrum "sunlight" bulb to help prevent seasonal affective disorder. I have one even living where I do for seasonal depression. You're supposed to sit under it for I think 30 minutes to an hour each day (at least here, may be longer in Alaska).

From Anchorage here, cant wait for the snow either. Most people who dont want the snow are military or part-timers (those who are only in Alaska for a short while)

When I saw that lake I wanted to swim in it. Beautiful! Alaska, from what you have shown us, is incredibly beautiful! Now I really want to move there. :( Oh well. You can do those kinds of videos anytime. Can hardly wait to see your new home and what you're going to be doing there. :)

    Oh, the ending... lol
Just as you were speaking about the last day of summer, although many people associate the start of September at Autumn, technically it doesn't start until the Autumnal Equinox (around the 22nd or 23rd Sept - depending on the year)
    Further babbling info:
Winter Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) - 21st or 22nd Dec
    Vernal Equinox - 20th Mar
Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) - 21st or 22nd Jun
    Chevrolet Equinox - A vehicle... ; )

I feel the same way about snow here in denmark! It's gonna be my first winter with my drivers license, and I can't wait to drive out in the snow :D

MAN CORY WTF WITH THE ENDING.
Kristen and I had the same idea about the glacier though. All I could think when she was wondering what to do with it was "Put it in that truck! It'll be funny!!"
