    I'm an archaeologist and we find stashes like this from time to time on surveys. The plastic wrapping makes me think that these items were meant to be retrieved not long after they were buried but were either forgotten about or their location forgotten. It could also be a time capsule made by a family for fun with their kids (hence the number of toys and nick knacks) who probably didn't take it seriously, so weren't worried about its survival. All in all a pretty fun and interesting find.

    Hiya Cory, I think I would call a park ranger to maybe check out the things you found
    it's kinda creepy that some expensive items were all wrapped up like the Bushnell case which I'm pretty sure are binoculars and the compass and the little silver piece
    you may have stumbled on to more than you think, I would show your vid to a parks officer and see what they think, good job on the first metal detection outing, can't wait to see what you come across next, and remember to keep watching around you while your out Metal detecting so you don't get surprised by a large animal
    keep up the great work, your awesome!!

    1. Hair looks great and will help to keep your head warm this winter. Most guys around here grow their hair out in the winter and don't cut it until break up (spring)
    2. Looks like maybe an old camcorder in a bush ell bag. As bush ell doesn't make camcorders to my knowledge. The combo of stuff would have me calling te non emergency police number. There innumerable missing children's cases from te 80's in this area.

    On the treasure that you found I'm not really sure what I would have done, it seems like it was either someones time capsule or something that once got lost, either way I would keep the interesting things, like the earrings or whatever it was, coins etc. Over all I would say that you do what you gotta do, be and do what you usually do! Can't wait for the next one, hope Kristen will follow along then. :)

    Wow, that was exciting! You found so many interesting things. Not gonna lie though, for a little bit there I was nervous about what you were gonna find. Was looking a little shady! But I have to agree with Kristen, I think bushnell makes binoculars because I think my Grandmother had a pair very similar to that. I have them now and the case looks just like that, logo in the same place, same coloring and everything. I hope that helps! -Emma

    Anchorage usually rains quite a bit during the summer. 2010/11/12 were rainy summers, and then 2013 was the best summer that area has seen in 50 years. 2014 was similar to 2013 but not quite as sunny or hot. It usually does rain quite a lot in Anchorage though, not so much heavy rainfall, but longevity.

    I find it very odd that a time capsule was placed on the outskirts of a park in the woods. Its actualy very unlikely that they would use a poorly wrapped plastic bag thats been damaged and was only covered by 20 or so years of foliage. This is probably someone passing through that lost their bag of things on their trip. People lose thjngs off their cars all the time. Could even be that a few campers forgot their things. I would report the items to the park ranger or other authorities, but it appears as though it has no historical significance, I would keep it, you were polite enought to ask them if you could do it or not anyways. Often times Uncle Sam wants to know if you have found 25 dollars or more. This coming from my few years of experience detecting.

    • @LiveEachDay

    About your GPS, a couple weeks ago, our GPS got myself, my dad and 2 sisters lost while we tried to find where my mum went (on a photoshoot). He ended up taking us a little towards the right way and said, "Prepare to park your car and you'll need to walk to your destination," my dad's reaction was hilarious but what was even more funny was because the destination was in the middle of the lake XD

    Cory this is very similar to a geocache, myself and a friend came across one a few years ago and went through exactly the same thoughts you did :) the bushnell thing will be a log book of all the times people have been there, you write in what you leaving for other people, and write in one thing you're allowed to take :). There pretty cool :) 759 in Alaska seemingly.

    The Bushnell case could have been for pair of clunky binoculars-- but, in truth, with every bag, I expected a body part. Excellent haul.
    I'd say this was a camping left-over, like a kid who packed oddly and it slipped off the family car and no one noticed. Peanuts got reprinted a lot.

    My first thought was "Oh, Cory found an old abandoned geocache!" :) But in that case there should be a logbook and a sticker or something saying that it is a geocache number GC1234. If there was nothing like that there, it could be another game similar to geocache. Maybe you should try to search the internet by GPS coordinates..

    That Bushnell pouch definitely was intended for binoculars originally. Hard to say what's in it now; my first guess was first aid kit but a closer look makes that seem less likely. I would contact the park authorities about it because there may be some significance to a find that large.

    Cory, I would atleast conact a ranger or police about your find. It does appear to be a time capsule of sorts, but it's suspicious because of the plastic bags it was in. A typical capsule would be on a metal box or some sort of container that could handle the weather. And the items inside were also atypical. It could also be someone's trash...ya never know.

  • @sapphiretink
    @sapphiretink 10 лет назад

    Good find! Such a random collection of items - maybe some kid made a personal time capsule? The Bushnell case may have binoculars or a spotting scope in it; might be worth checking into if you can take out "trash" that's clearly not related to the earthquake.

  • @LZmiljoona
    @LZmiljoona 10 лет назад +1

  • @Connected2U2

    For what it's worth, back in the mid 80s their was a big push to change the way garbage bags/plastic bags were made... under the impression that they last 100s of years in landfills/environment before they disintegrate.
    So I would assume a lot of people were under the impression that sealing things in plastic/garbage bags keep them safe for years and years+.
    That is one of the reasons why you see soooo many time capsules from the mid 70s/early 80s stored/hidden that way.(Not that they were too far off, just the slightest hole in the plastic turns a time capsule into goop/gunk.

    Tron. You have to power up that pager and see if it works! Considering the rest of the cache The Bushnell box is either a Rangefinder or Binoculars, Too small for a rifle scope. Since the forest changes over time I'm sure even if someone were to have buried it as a time capsule it's unlikely they'd ever find it in there.

      It would be illegal. That said a lot of it looked like garbage, and once the authorities got a good look at it they might decide they want it out of there anyway, so he may be able to work the system to get hold of some if not all of the stuff.

      I agree. i think he should call the same number he contacted for the info in the first place, and if there IS something of significance there, then they can come and take it away. Maybe they an make a museum display out of it.

      It's already a memorial park. It would be stealing. And you're not allowed to remove anything from a landfill area anyway. Even if mother nature made it.
