  • This time, I am traveling alone to Hita City, Oita Prefecture, to visit the "Attack on Titan in HITA" project. The "Attack on Titan in HITA" project was started by citizen volunteers with the wishes of Hajime Isayama, the author of the original novel "Attack on Titan".
Please enjoy Hita with its many attractions such as statues of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, Levi, and the Attack on Titan Museum.
On the way to Hita City, we also stopped by LaLaport Fukuoka to see a Size of the original ν (nu) "Gundam" statue and the Kamado Jinja, which is said to be the sacred place of the "Demon Slaye".

I'm back from my trip to Hita and it was amazing. A few points to consdier for your own trip: 1. Stay longer than a day - I made the mistake of thinking that 1 day is all that's necessary to appreciate Hita & see the AoT statues / museum. Hita is the most beautiful town I've ever visited and I wish I could have enjoyed it for longer. 2. (optional) Rent a car - My god is it difficult to walk to the statues, the bus from the JR station only takes you half way and the rest is a walk along some sketchy roads (esp. if you're trying to go to the museum / farmers market). But I must admit there was a sense of accomplishment in walking that I wouldn't trade for anything. (I think there's only like 3 buses a day that pick you up from the museum - I could be wrong - so be careful you don't miss the last one! 3. Don't trust Google maps for the entire trip - At a certain point it tries to lead you to the top of the Dam rather than the base. I had to backtrack quite a bit because of this. There's a cemetery with a sign pointing left for the statues - Make sure you go left not right! 4. Bonus: I stayed at the Hita Tenryosui no Yado and could not recommend it enough. It's on a little island of sorts that's gorgeous and must be experienced in person.

Also because I'm a nerd - on the Hita monument there's 3 hidden hearts (easy to miss the plaque telling you about them) - try and find them!

Thank you for the very useful information.
Feedback from people who have actually visited is very valuable. Hita is a very nice place, but if you use public transportation, you will have a lot of time constraints, so it is best to visit with plenty of time.

Is it possible to travel between Osaka and Hita using only the JR pass? I want to visit in March, but I'm having difficulty working out the simplest and most cost efficient way to do so.

If you want to go from Osaka to Hita by bus, you will need to change trains at Hakata. I don't think there is a direct bus.
If you take a night bus, you will save time and get there at a low cost.

    Hello,
How did you go to the Oyama Dam? Do you ride a taxi or are there any buses that can go to the place?
    Thank you!

I went by rental car. You can also go by bus or cab.
■How to get to Oyama Dam by bus
From the Hita Bus Center, board a bus bound for Tsuetate.
Get off at Nakagohara bus stop → From Nakagohara bus stop to the Oyama Dam bronze statue, it takes about 2.3 km or about 30 minutes on foot.
■You can take a cab from Hita station!
City taxi has a web page in English, so it is easy to understand.
It is better to make a reservation in advance.
