It's all about the angle of the camera. Look at 2:03, the blanket is lined up with the camera for a few seconds, so the dude on the chair could run off. (the shadow is easyly taken off on the editing). In this case, MOST DEFINITELY, the dude on the other chair would see what just happened. So, it's all about the angle of the camera FOR US, the audience. Everyone is aware of this cheap trick.
It is obvious that everyone except the subject of the joke is aware, the idea is to create a controlled scenario that looks real, that really puts the fear of the soul, because it does not leave the perimeter by the initial impact, trying all elbow a joke ... but when the thing lasts longer than it should, the anxiety begins, if the subject goes crazy or goes away from the perimeter it will be informed. It is not so difficult to deceive a person.

I would have agreed with you but the landscape view of all cameras doesn’t really tell you if your recording them or not. When someone points a camera in a general direction it doesn’t become apparent if your recording that person

It's all about the angle of the camera. Look at 2:03, the blanket is lined up with the camera for a few seconds, so the dude on the chair could run off. (the shadow is easyly taken off on the editing).
In this case, MOST DEFINITELY, the dude on the other chair would see what just happened. So, it's all about the angle of the camera FOR US, the audience. Everyone is aware of this cheap trick.

If you notice the magician places the blanket in front of the chair (and in front of the other guy) for a few seconds...this gives him time to run from the chair and into the space in the back (the edge of the grassy seating area)
