  • Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, is in the south-central part of the state on the Cook Inlet. It's known for its cultural sites, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, which displays traditional crafts, stages dances, and presents replicas of dwellings from the area’s indigenous groups. The city is also a gateway to nearby wilderness areas and mountains including the Chugach, Kenai and Talkeetna. ― Google

    I first lived in AK in 97. I made it into 98 before my job took me elsewhere. I miss the city and the friends I made way back then. It was a magical place to be for someone that loves the outdoors. God bless AK and Anchorage and all that live there. And thank you for many of the very best memories of my life.

    I live in Anchorage. Moved up from the warmer lower 48. Anchorage is not for everyone. People complain about how cold this place is in the winter, the limited sunlight, drunk natives stumbling around downtown - all fair points, but just like any other place in the world, it’s what you make of it. It’s a transient town so don’t expect lifelong friendships. If anyone is thinking of moving up here, (if you can) it would be wise to visit in the summer AND in the winter to get an idea of the place. It’s all relative - some people love the place and swear they’ll never move, others come and after their first winter, they regret the move. It really is an individual decision and experience. I love the place but again I’ll reiterate, that’s my personal opinion. I have no regrets living here.

    • @forexed8948
      @forexed8948 Год назад +2

      The outdoors industry is absolutely huge in Anchorage, but you're right, there is a lack of things to do, but then again half the year is dependent on the tourism industry and Alaska is busiest during the summer months. It's not an easy town to live in due to the winter months where there is between 6 to 8 hours of light per day and it can drop below zero rather easily, plus to visit anyone in the lower 48 or Hawai'i you need to book plane tickets, or drive 6 days to get to the lower 48.

    I wanted to find some nice things to say about this city, but all I could come up with was the roads were in better condition than I expected considering the weather and over all it looked like a clean city. But, I think both are a side effect of the fact that there seemed to be no people there. Honestly, it felt like watching a zombie apocalypse movie. I saw several things that struck me as odd. All of the big hotels except the Marriott were off by themselves with nothing around them. I mean all the Hilton had next to it was an Army Navy store and closed down pawn shop. There was a diner called Soul Food Gyros. Really? Those two things have nothing in common. Really, the problem with this city seemed to be wonky zoning. It was a very haphazard mix of structures all jumbled together. The pedestrians that you did see were an odd mix too. Two hookers, 5 wobbly drunks, 4 joggers, and several that were alone and walking in circles looking confused. I guess it would matter what day of the week and time of day this was. I assumed it was summer since I saw one house that had annuals growing in a flower box, but it did look cold.

      It's funny. There were actually two restaurants in one. Tito's Gyros and Roscoe's Soul Food. But you're right. They definitely don't go together. Also, I'm pretty sure this was filmed early in the morning, sometime between 6 and 7 am. That's why the streets and sidewalks are so empty. And depending on where you're from, you could consider it cold, but I'd bet it was in the mid 50s this day, at least. I didn't see the hookers you saw. Must have missed them.
