We were stationed at Elmendorf from 93-95 and lived in Eagle River until we got base housing. I've driven that stretch many, many time. Thank you so much for the memories. The part of the drive out to ER from ANC that I loved was the Alpenglow on the twin peaks at sunset. Also experience one of the greatest moments of my life when I was out taking pictures of the aurora when the sky literally exploded into just about every color imaginable. I was out of film so I just laid back in the snow and enjoyed the show-never felt closer to God than that. It's been 35 years and as mentioned I recognized the car dealerships on the Old Glenn as well as Merrill Field. Thank you so much. Hoping to get up there next summer when we do a land tour and cruise.

Thank you very much for this wonderful ride! Silence, quietude, only natural sounds, definitely match with the long, wet roads with the lamp-lights on the snowy sideways, dark naked forest trees, picturesque houses, snowy mountains, a Rainbow in the grey cloudy sky, in a black and white background/scenery All in absolute Harmony! Astounding, mesmerizing, unique Alaskan Nature landscapes!!!,🌌🏞️🌲🌎❤️❤️❤️❤️

We used to take the road out of Fairbanks going toward Circle.....until the pavement gave out! 😁 we would get out & sit on the hood of the car & just listen to the silence.....it was an amazing time!

Drove that road many times but couldn't see the main gate for Ft Richardson. I think it was about 5 minutes from downtown.

Lived there in the 1990's. It looks cleaner today lol but a few things I recognized like the 5th Avenue Mall walkway and the many car dealerships on Old Glenn hwy

You can hear the studded snow tires.

I can't believe you said that.......that sound is so evocative of Alaska urban life!! Lived in Fairbanks in the late 60's early 70's & would recognize that sound anywhere......

Only the ignorant use "Studded Tires" these days. As with everything the TECHNOLOGY of Snow and Ice tires has progressed. BLIZZAK tires are soft compound that sticks to snow and they are also hydrophilic which bonds with water or the surface of ICE. Not to mention they don't destroy the roads and cause noise pollution!
