- When it comes to the App Store, Apple's philosophy around apps on the iPhone has been consistent. You need to follow its rules, or you're not allowed on iOS. But app developer Riley Testut has a new strategy for distributing mobile apps outside the App Store, and it's called AltStore. It's an alternative app store for the iPhone that lets you install any app, without needing to jailbreak your phone or install an enterprise certificate. He built it initially as a way to distribute his Nintendo emulator Delta, but now he thinks it could support all kinds of software Apple doesn't allow on the App Store. And the best part: anyone can download it.

I was just thinking that. Welp now that they have broadcasted it expect a huge rush of users and then a swift blow and no more alt store.
It’s good. There’s a reason why Apple has such high expectations. That’s what makes the App Store great so if this video just made some wind at Apple and this leads to them fixing the whole side loading alt store thing, that’s good!

Jailbreaking hasn’t died out. In fact, an exploit in the bootrom has made to possible to have a jailbreak on ANY iOS version that the iPhone 5s-X can run

I was waiting until the end of the video for you to tell me how to get AltStore.
The only thing AltStore has done that other programs or applications haven’t was bypassing the 3 app limit, which uses a bug that could realistically be patched.

CIA It uses your OWN Apple ID. If YOUR OWN Apple ID isn't signing apps, that's your own problem. It works fine for me and I just resigned it 15 minutes ago.

AltStore is still working, i still have it on my iphone SE, 2nd generation,, i wish AltStore could install apps from the internet

To everyone who’s saying this will make Apple “fix” AltStore, this is essentially just cydia impactor+ in terms of the loophole it takes advantage of, and that’s been around for ages.

@@DjShainth Honestly jailbreaking in my opinion died a while ago. Not as easy or reliable as it used to be and it takes a lot longer for exploits. Plus there's a lot less reason to jailbreak nowadays. People who used to jailbreak usually are on android now just like I am. I jailbroke almost every iphone I owned lol.

Actually jailbreaking is more alive than it ever was and probably ever will because of the checkm8 exploit from 2 weeks ago, you can jailbreak any iphone on any ios until A12 chips

This app store was sort of like a secret for the diehard lovers of indie apps that Apple would not allow. Now that Apple gets wind of this, expect it to be blocked and probably implement measures to prevent future Alt stores.

What I don’t understand is why Nintendo straight up REFUSES to offer a gameboy emulator on the app store!
I would pay handsomely to legally and conveniently be able to play my favourite games!
If there were no market for emulators and pokemon roms, they wouldn’t exist, so why on earth does Nintendo refuse to satisfy that demand?!?

Delta stopped working for me 😤 It will now not re install it
Jailbreaking is still very much alive. My iPhone XS Max is jailbroken. This method is just signing your own apps the problem is it only signs the apps for 7 days and without being jailbroken you can’t resign apps on your phone. With an app called ReProvision you can resign your applications but it only works on jailbroken devices. Also a problem with this method for anyone is you can only sign 3 apps with one free Apple ID. And have to pay 100 a year for a dev account to sign as many as needed for the entire year.
