Why The iPad Doesn't Have A Calculator
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 май 2024
- When the iPad was being created, a guy named Scott Forstall was leading its software development. He was responsible for the skeuomorphic interface featured early on in iOS, and the calculator app included with the iPad prototype was simply a scaled up version of the iPhone’s. The software team assumed the final product would ship with this calculator, but once Steve Jobs saw it one month before the iPad’s release, he met with Forstall right away. Saying, “where is the new design for the calculator? This looks awful" Forstall replied, "what new design? This is what we are shipping with.” Jobs said, "no, pull it. We can't ship that.” Although Forstall tried to convince Jobs to keep the calculator on iPad, he was given an ultimatum: Redesign the calculator’s user interface to make it look good on the iPad’s larger display, or it won’t be included. With the iPad’s release just weeks away, Forstall knew his team wouldn’t be able to create a new app from scratch, so the original iPad shipped without a calculator.

Apple was being frugal 😂😂a billionaire company.
Imagine having a $5 billion dollar headquarters in charge of designing everything for the company and you can't figure out a calculator and weather app
That's kinda what Apple does.

My work I do use my IPhone and company supplied IPad. Doing reports and inspections would be nice to just use One device for everything at once. The weather app could be a larger one from iOS 15. But why would Apple continue to be so obsessed with an amazing calculator in 2021 when they have heaps of apps that are less than groundbreaking? Is the Notes app amazing? It’s simple and functional. That’s all a calculator needs to be.
Don’t let Apple know, otherwise they will pull the Notes app to until they can make it “amazing”.
well you can use the apple pen to write in notes
@@barrettross3772 which will take roughly 100 years.
@@ianarchibald7928 notability is way better
Yeah, the third-party notebook app goodnotes (which I use for college) is basically what the ipados version of notes should’ve evolved into when they made the apple pencil. If they kept notes mediocre then why not do the same for a built-in calc app?
"It doesn't need to be great. I just need to do my math!" said my 13yr old.
Knew they couldn't redesign the app in WEEKS? Give me a day.
This was a stupid decision on their part. We don’t need a special calculator. A regular one would be fine.
if they are going to create an amazing one, it better be able to do graphing calculations and advance calculus
@@MonsieurArlequin calculus
You can download a regular calculator from app store
@@kushagraasthana532 I shouldn't need to download one from the app store. Those come with ads anyway

this wouldn’t be an “issue” if steve jobs just let the iPads ship with the calculators… they literally could have updated it later with an iPadOS update
They could just include the calculator app in a iPadOS update too
Yeah. Like he really thinks we actually care about what it looks like, like no.
Can't be blaming Jobs after 10+ years.

Lol. They only want perfection but they have Siri in it's current state. Literally an alarm clock setter. They need to hire me.
I am sitting here remembering my Texas Instruments calculator. I forgot the model number its either TI83 or 84 and people use to program everything into it. You would think it would be simple to add a programmable graphic calculator.
It's mind blowing how something so simple is so difficult for them to make. I don't get a 'wow, this is amazing' when I open the default weather app on my iPhone.
That’s how you know they’re the best. The simpler something looks, often takes more effort tocreate
@@LucielStarz123 I have never had an issue with any weather app except those with adds because how do you screw up a weather app
I always get a «wow, this is amazing»-experience when opening the weather app on my iPhone.
Always thought is is so wonderful.
Don’t think it’s simple to make a calculator, btw. If it was easy, all could do that.
making a calculator program... takes a surprisingly advanced amount of knowledge in programming
tho not so much if you're using a tool that provides almost everything to make things easier
@@LeifD958 i could literally make a calculator in 10 mins using C#. Like seriously tho, making a calculator is one of the easiest things to do. They aren't making one because they simply don't care
