Man...I wrestled with this lock over 30 minutes (customer didn't have a key so once I took it apart and rekeyed it I had to figure out the key override part). Good stuff!

Thanks for the video! What is the tool you used to slide the cylinder out of the housing at 4 minutes in to the video?

I'm not a pro and you probably figured it out by now, but it's called a follower. It's just a cylinder tube, it's purpose is to keep the spring loaded top pins in place when you remove the inner key slot cylinder plug. Look up some more detailed videos on "Rekey Schlage Deadbolt Locks", the disassembly is different, but once you get the cylinder out it's pretty standard stuff.

Try cutting the 1st pin upper chamber out. You will lose the 1st pin but you can use a 6 pin key in it. The cylinder will stick out a little and setup your system so the 1st pin is less crucial

good video, Schlage though is not so; Papa Gleb brings up a good point about Schlage locks...they are weak in too many areas.

Point well made sir. I was mainly asking to find out if I do cut it off will I have easy access to the internals or are their shielded somehow to prevent such an attack?

Was the original key necessary for this process? Couldn't really tell. You did put it in, but can you get to the pins without it? (I don't have the master on a house just purchased with 3 of these locks and NO keys, just the electronic codes.

@@Gandor66 Thanks for replying. What I ended up doing was replacing the center lock part only (piece with tumbler and pins) since it was the same part as other schlage deadbolts. Ended up being cheaper / quicker than having a new key made or shimming the pins to open it up.

Sure you could but do you think that requires any less effort to drill your average lock? same effort same result. I didn't say I like it I'm just showing how to re key it

Thanks for the videos. Question. I bought a Schlage encode is it possible to render the key portion inoperable until I can get a multi T cylinder and still have the electronic part work. Trying to make it harder to of pick and bump.

  • @red2965

Still tripping same lock it sits hella deep also not engaging also no key have to get whole lock or just pop top and drop pins in.
Stupid is what I call it the nose twisting like that thought the crap was broken still not sure but mine spins too 🤣🙈
