Marco was playing a double neck Warwick bass on top and a Framus guitar on bottom . Troy was playing a Low Whistle
Yep quite right, it's an Infinity/Panthera, in the Warwick catalogue but special order custom shop only, heavy in weight and definitely in price around $14,000US.
He names it The Beast.
For the uninitiated: bass guitars have typically 4-5 strings. Guitars have typically 6, but may have 7-8 strings. Unless you're called Steve Vai and the rulebook goes out of the window
@@jeroens9160 bass guitars have typically 4-5 or 6 strings
@@jeroens9160 absolutely true, and for guitars you can even go up to 12 strings 👍
One of my favorite Nightwish performances. Marko and Floor together are magic.
Troy is a multi-instrumentalist, who besides the low flute, also plays guitar, bouzouki, and uillean pipes with Nightwish. When you get to "The Greatest Show on Earth" from this concert, he shines on both the flute and pipes. To hear his guitar and vocal prowess, check out the acoustic version of "How's the Heart". He and Floor sound fantastic.
That, my dear, is THE BEAST! - as others have told you, a bass on top and a six-string on the bottom. Marco is a classically trained guitarist. You missed the beginning with this version, but he makes a joke about the "other weasels" leaving him alone to perform. My very favorite part is the utter joy and pride that Floor shows to Marco as he walks back from "the island" out there in the sea of fans. The true love that these talented geniuses have for each other is the magic that people struggle to explain. This song was written by Marco and Tuomas. I've heard that Tuomas assisted with the lyrics. Just another magic moment from the most brilliant band on the planet. Excellent reaction!
Everytime I see such a combo-guitar / bass assembly it reminds me of "lieutenant Ripley" in Aliens when she used duct tape to strap a flamethrower onto her "M41A Pulse Rifle" when she went down to search for the queen and Newt. It's just pure badass ^^.
Another beautiful song with Marco singing is "While Your Lips Are Still Red" 😊The music video is beautiful and it has clips from a Finnish movie "The Matriarch" (Lieksa) and the song was a soundtrack in said movie too.
U know u made it as a singer when u have floor doing your backing vocals.
this xD
He needs a t-shirt: “Floor Jansen is my backing vocalist”
And one that keeps the singer alive. Was this song ever recorded with marco and tarja?
There is another one. Waylon and his million dollar background(emilou harris and dolly parton)
@@henkoosterhof5947 This song was done after Tarja had left and Annette was Lead Singer for the band. She still did not have much to do with the song, she backed up Marco sort of like Floor did here.
This song fits Marko like a glove !!!
Marko "The Viking" Hietala is a living legend 🤘.
Also, the secret weapon of Nightwish, Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone...).
He plays Low Whistle in this song. Donockley's first appearance with Nightwish was on their 2007 release, Dark Passion Play, as a guest musician, providing some whistles and pipes to the songs "The Islander", "Last of the Wilds", and "Meadows of Heaven". He also joined them on select shows of the subsequent tour and appeared in the music video for "The Islander". In 2011, Donockley appeared as a guest on Imaginaerum, providing whistles, pipes, and vocals. He joined Nightwish again on the Imaginaerum World Tour, and also appeared on the band's concert DVD 'Showtime, Storytime'. He also appears in the Imaginaerum film from 2012 as a stage illusionist.
Following the conclusion of the Imaginaerum World Tour, Donockley was made a full-time member of Nightwish in October 2013.
He provides the main vocals for Nightwish's single ‘Harvest’, released in 2020.
NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.
I would argue that Viking is exactly fitting nickname for Finnish wizard. Actually you might know that there was one character in Finnish folklore who was described as an old and wise man, who possessed a potent, magical singing voice - Väinamöinen. You could check out his picture and may discover a striking similarity. 😅
@@rpgp6065 Will do!!! Thanks 🤘
@@rpgp6065 Didn't Tolkien use this mythological figure in the form of Gandalf?
@@TimoArula You might have heard of his Estonian counterpart called Vanemuine. 😀
@@MaggieByNameMaybe. Although I am not sure about singing and bass playing abilities of Gandalf. 😀
You must hear Nightwish doing a tribute to the Pink Floyd song, "High Hopes". It is amazing to say the leiest.
..
This is a magical performance and one of my favorites. Marko is so cool and his voice is sublime.❤❤❤❤
'The Voice of my Father' by Marko
Just him, singing about his dad... I cry EVERY time i hear it...
I absolutely love this song. It's beautiful, it's fun, it sounds so unique. Nightwish is a gift to the world.
This song is from when Anette Olzon, another singer, was in the band in 2007.
If a dual neck guitar blew you away, I once attended a concert featuring Cheap Trick where guitarist Rick Nielsen played a guitar with 5 necks, not one of them was just for show.
Good morning Ray 🤗 Marko wrote this song and Tuomas helped him with the lyrics. Another great "slower" song by Nightwish is 'Sleeping Sun', the live version from Tampere.
Troy is playing the low whistle. It belongs to the family of flutes like its smaller sister the tin (or penny) whistle and the recorder.
Marko is amazing. He has some solo stuff. He left Nightwish during the pandemic. He had some mental health issues he had to deal with and decided to live in sunny Spain for awhile. Seems like he's doing live shows solo again. He's also in a band called Northern Kings.. all of the best finish male singers in one band. Also amazing.
He was speaking in Finnish, he said - and Finnish is not my native language, so I will try to not mess it up - "If I continue singing, will you sing along?", crows said "Yes", Markko asked again "Will you?", to which they said again "Yes". Markko is amazing, if you haven't heard yet, check their older song, their tribute to Ping Floyd, "High Hopes". Also check Markko's own band, his "Voice Of My Father" song. And of course anything of Nightwish.
And as many have said, you missed the very beginning of the song, where Markko said how others had creeped backstage and leaving him alone to entertain over 20000 people. But fun part is how others quietly snuck back while he was singing and then joined in, making already a great song and performance even better. And besides, how many artists can ever say that they had Floor as backing singer? Probably no-one else :)
Check arjan lucassen ayreon. Floor is singing there also in a group and doing backgrounds.
Finnish speaker told me it's like "If I play the chorus, you will sing along?
You will?
OK, then we'll do it!"
But multiple ways of translating it so there's no real right or wrong.
@@572Btriodei am finn and you are right
@@johnnyfallen87 Thank you, that's very kind.
❤it, I think you did as well 😊. It is one of the best for showing off his skills and ability to do it!
Marko’s instrument is a double neck electric guitar, the top is a 4 string Bass and the bottom is a 6 string guitar. This is custom made for situations where the player needs to play both parts during a song, this avoids trying to change instruments during a performance.
Floor said after a lifetime of being a lead vocalist, backup harmonies was a bit of a challenge.
Marko is freakin' talented. I hope Nightwish won't lose too much without him
Great reaction! Marko's double necked guitar is a Warwick bass on top and a Framus guitar on bottom with piezo electric pickups that give it that acoustic guitar tone. Troy is playing an Irish Low Whistle. Similar to a tin whistle but tuned for a lower key. My two favorite Marko songs are Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red and Endlessness. Live at Wembley is the best version of Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red with Floor again providing beautiful backing harmonies and Marko showing his vulnerable side in an ode to innocent young love. Endlessness is from their latest album Human Nature and the lyric video is quite good. Last song on Disc 1 of the album which is fitting since it is the last song Marko recorded before leaving the band. It is a beautiful song about life and it's eventual end.
BTW, Floor and Marco will usually sing together for Christmas, there are some lovely performances of them doing Holiday duets.
Might be time for more Nightwish and Marco - Nightwish | While Your Lips Are Still Red 🤩
Hi Rachel, greetings from UK
Nice to see you back reacting to Nightwish after all this time. I felt sure you had forgotten us
Marko is one of the few people who can say that Floor Jansen is his backing singer!
The proud look on Floor's face and her clapping and smiling when he came back after the song, she was so happy that he had his solo moment in the limelight 😄
If you want to hear more of Marko on main vocals, I'd recommend checking out another band he was in, Tarot. Specifically the song Tides from the Undead Indeed live album.
More Marko! Check out Nightwish - High Hopes (End Of An Era). Their tribute to Pink Floyd.
So much to come, so much to see, enjoy!
Nightwish do a lot of low whistle and Uilleann Pipes.
And all styles - another you may like is While Your Lips Are Still Red, Wembley 2015.
Beautiful reaction.
The rest is all said below...
Cellar Darling is a folk metal band that features flutes. As does the folk metal band that the three of them came from, Eluveitie
I love your reaction and comments! Please promise, that you will make it till The Greatest Show On Earth... It's just a masterpiece which combines all the different aspects of Nightwish together into one gigantic epic piece of art! Like everything what you like about Nightwish is there and it's cranked up 2 levels :D
You will most probably wet yourself by the bliss, I promise. Well, at least I do everytime I sit down and listen to that! :D
Btw Islander is again just amazing song... Sure one from many, yet again so original and still you can hear those specific things that only Nightwish music do. This was one of the songs that formed me in my teenage years. Whenever I heard it, it just brought an ultimate peace to my soul and everything felt alright.
Nightwish really can heal your soul...
If you want want Metal with flutes there's a whole genre : Folk Metal
I think the easiest band to start is
Korpiklaani (I don't know if they have a flute but they have folk instruments) Metsamies, Man with a plan or Tequila are fun songs to react to
Eluveitie : You can't go wrong with them but there are extreme vocals so listener's discretion is advised
Songs to react to : King, Inis Mona, Rebirth, Ambiramus
Finntroll (again extreme vocals)
Songs to react: Trollhammaren, Under Bergens rot
Metsatöll: I discovered them not too long ago
Songs to react: Vaid Vaprost, Kuu
And that would be the basics there's also Arkona but they are Russian and proud of that, so I would be careful
Marko ❤
There are four thick strings - it is called Bass guitar. This is a combo. Check "High Hopes" End of and Era concert too - Marco sings versatile styles there as well as "Kiss while your lips are still red". There is awesome video of this too - images color the feeling and atmosphere in that.
Troy, the man of many instruments. Such a beautiful touch to such an enchanting song.
If you want to hear another song with Marco singing with Floor backing, try "While your lips are still red" in Wembley. If you like the low whistle, Nightwish have songs with other unusual metal instruments, like "I want my tears back", with Uillean Pipes or maybe "7 Days to the Wolves" with the Bouzouki. Marco's guitar is a bass on top and a six-string guitar on bottom; in "My Walden" he uses both parts of the guitar. Greetings from NY Army Portugal
You really need to hear "While your lips are still red". Just a beautiful song.
I really liked that too. Every time I watch this video. On repeat. Who needs a life?
3:59 that giggle was so cute my heart aches
If you want more of folkish sound try "Elan", "My walden", "I want my tears back" or "Harvest"
YAY! This is one of my favorites, I LOVE Marko!
He was asking if people will sing the next lines with him. In finnish, ofcourse.
Love this song and everything Marko does. Love Nightwish anyway and love your rayactions also, always makes me smile 😊👍
Nightwish actually started as a folk/ acoustic project by keyboardist/ songwriter Tuomas... After hearing the power and versatility of the original singer Tarja, he decided to transform it into a metal band w/ orchestral influences... However, years later... they brought back some of the folk/ acoustic songs, like 'The Islander' in 2007 (Anette Olzen did the backing vocals on the studio track w/ Marco on lead vocals) ... Another song in that style was - 'While your lips are still red' (Marco on lead vocals again, Anette on backing vocals).
On the 'Imaginaerum' album in 2011, they had some folk-style tracks - 'Turn loose the mermaids'... the opening track 'Taikatalvi' (Marco on lead vocals)... 'Slow, love, slow'... 🔥🔥
The double-neck guitar was what Marco was playing... bass on one neck, electric guitar on the other. It allows a player to switch between tunings in songs without delay... It was first made famous by Jimmy Page (guitar) of Led Zeppelin, who would play the double-neck guitar live, and it became an iconic image... Rush in the 70's had both Geddy Lee (bass) and Alex Lifeson (guitar) play double-neck instruments on stage to look twice as impressive 🤘🤘😂 Slash (lead guitar) of Guns N' Roses would also play a double-neck guitar live in the 90's.
This is definitely in my top songs ever. Marko is amazing, and how can go wrong with the incredible Floor as your backing vocals.
You have a great vibe, always interesting to watch. Greetings from Croatia.
They have multiple songs in this style....Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red, My Walden, The Last of the Wilds, Elvenpath/Elvenjig, I Want My Tears Back....
Wait untill you hear Harvest. It's a double polar opposite from everything that NW did before. Love your reaction 🤘. Best regards from an old NW fan from Croatia ❤
If you do another Nightwish song, consider "The greatest show on earth" live from Lampere. So badass
A good reaction to a gorgeous song 😊
That guitar is called "The Beast" by Marko. Bass & guitar in one. Jethro Tull used flute!
The most crazy versatile band, i think there's nothing they can't do. As always, a wonderful reaction, keep em coming 🤘
If you want to see more Marco and Floor in a beautiful voice blend, you HAVE TO listen then singing Ave Maria (with parts sang in Finnish, Latin, and English).
Loved the reaction and the song!
So sad Marko is no longer with Nightwish. He has such a unique voice. They'll never be the same without him.😢
Glad you enjoyed Marko's singing and your introduction to the English multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley. For a fun song with Troy playing Uilleann (elbow) pipes try watching I Want My Tears Back at Buenos Aires in 2018/19.
An other gorgeous performance is “the bard‘s song and Valhalla” by blind guardian at the wacken open air festival
The crowd participation is great
i absolutely love how you reference the witcher and skyrim , youre too perfect
Girl, I love your energy ❤😂
Love your reactions. React to While Your Lips Are Still Red by Nightwish next. Marko leads that too. Slow paced beautiful song 🔥
Is a bass and solo guitar. Can recognise bass by it has 4 strings usualy. And sometimes there are 2 riffs for electric and acoustic guitar as far as i know. And solo guitars can have different effects, whatever you like to accomplish as sound. And with this new formation with Floor and new members of the band , they have some pipes and other folclore instruments, which is pretty fascinating. In Bulgaria we have instruments like these , its called kaval. And it sounds alot like a tavern , yeah :). Gives you that warm feeling like home and cosyness :) , drinking beer, telling stories ,laughing and enjoying a calm nice evening after a day full of adventures :). O dear , i have so much music to share with you! :)
Marko calls it the Beast. It is a double neck with an electric guitar on the bottom and a bass on the top. Good call. Tuomas the composer loves to play Skyrim. This one was written by Tuomas and Marco. Nightwish does have a Celtic folk influence as well on some of their compositions.
BTW - That was Troy playing an old style traditional flute called a low whistle or tin whistle.
Troy is a multi-instrumentalist who plays everything except ice hockey.
He rarely plays traditional rock instruments on Nightwish songs and when he does there's a twist, like making guitar sound a cello with E-bow.
For another slower and Marko heavy song, try While Your Lips Are Still Red, live on Wembley. There Troy plays guitar with E-bow. Like the Islander, it was not originally composed to be a Nightwish song.
And if you want to see that Troy masters guitar, too, check acoustic How's The Heart.
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. This is one of my FAVORITE moments from NightWish. This was CLEARLY Marco’s moment and the rest of them were there to support him. ❤❤
Another beautiful Marko-heavy song is "While your lips are still red" (live at Wembley 2015). And then Marko-only "High Hopes" (Pink Floyd cover from "End of an Era"). I would also recommend Marko's old band Tarot. Good song for start is Tides. I try to link it below.
another great song where Marco takes lead vocals is High Hopes ( originally by Pink Floyd ) from their end of an era tour. I believe it's the same concert as the Phantom of the opera vid you reacted to with Marco singing.
I look forward to the great show on Earth
If You wana hear more Marco then "While Your Lips Are Still Red" is another interesting song made by him with assistance of Tuomas and "High Hopes" cover made by Nightwish. Others interesting songs of his own are "The Voice of My Father" and "Stones". Of course there are many more. Other interesting songs of Nightwish are "The Poet and the Pendulum" and "Greatest Show on Earth". But in case of this first one i advice to research background (reason) of writing that story by Tuomas to fully understand the meaning and fully experience the turmoil which is inside of this insane song. Greetings form Poland.
Every Nightwish songs with Troy Donockley is a pure diamond!
The best thing about Nightwish is that just when you think you know where they're coming from they'll throw you a curve ball.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 well done girl,it was an old song that Marco used to sing alone and Floor is included!
I love how you have changed after the first Nightwish video reaction, you looked like a nice girl, now you have a witch hairdo and black nails and all.. 🤗
Marco is awesome and Floor is the best backup singer ever.
Now that you mentioned The Dragonborn Comes and Skyrim... Try Voiceplay's cover of the Dragon Born Comes with Omar Cardona. A capella!
Coming back to Nightwish... This song gives me goosebumps and get me teary eyed. So beautiful. Ia gorgeous performance. Mystical. Glad you like it...
Two things: 1) How confident must you be to have Floor Jansen as a BACKUP singer. 2) Troy actually plays multiple instrument including the low and high whistle (a type of flute where you see it go straight instead of blown into the side like a traditional flute). "Elan" has a good example of Troy with his instruments. Troy also sings, but his voice isn't as obvious as Marco's voice. He sang in the "Greatest Show on Earth" at the Tampere concert (including the growl sounds - First Marco, then Troy, then Floor).
There is a long history of hard rock and metal bands playing ballads well. I enjoyed this very, very much. Thank You Rayactions for bringing my attention to this particularly enchanting example.
Loved how you referenced the whole skyrim stuff and taverns :D Nightwish used to be mega mega heaivly nordic/fantasy with folk themes! Impressed how fast you picked on it!
Finnish band, we love that kind of stuff!
Love this one! The talk in the middle is Marko asking the crowd to join in - my Finnish isn't very good yet, but I caught "laulatte" which means "you will sing" here (Finnish doesn't have a future tense so it's basically the same as the present, you have to figure it out from context). Oh, and in case you're interested, flutes and whistles are in the same family but whistles are end-blown and flutes are played more sideways.
Hi, very beautiful reaction
Gotta do more from Sleep Tokens new album! Ascensionism is EXCELLENT, you’ll love it 😊
slaying the dreamer live end of an era with Marco and Tarja on vocals,
One of their best songs in my opinion.
I agree, that's a great performance
The acoustic guitar sound he’s getting is likely due to there being a piezo pickup in the bridge of the guitar. The “flute” is an instrument called a low whistle. Cousin to the well known tin whistle found in Celtic, Folk, and traditional Irish music.
Ah yes…..Marco…everyone’s favorite singing Viking !!!!!🎸🤘🎶
That was magic of Marko :)
Just ❤it, even if you missed a little bit in the beginning, where he's joking about the weasels left him alone.
The next one for u 2 do, should be High Hopes, a more rocky one. Also with Marco. A tribute to Pink Floyd.
Keep them coming ❤❤❤
I concur
@@Grizzlox As do I.
Nightwish were so unbelievably lucky to have two singers so talented at the same time. Marko has gone now but maybe one day he will rejoin them for a concert. If I am not dead I will be there.
Beautiful song. This the best version of it too.
If you like folk instruments in metal Eluveitie is a great band with lots of metal flute.
Another song that Marco sings and is a great cover of a Pink Floyd song is High Hopes. It is one of my favorites of just Marco's talent.
One of the few Nightwish song whose music not written by Tuomas but by Marco the lyrics are written by Tuomas.
such a good song and lighter one with scottish and welsh flute
Love the reaction like others this is one of my all time favourite nightwish songs. And as other have said highly recommend reacting to while your lips are still red (live at wembly being my go to) its and awesome haunting song. And marco doing the cover of pink floyds high hopes is something to behold
love marco's voice
Jethro Tull locomotive breath if u want to hear a flute n rock
07:00 the face we were hoping for by suggesting the song :D
Marco has such a wonderful voice, and they have lots of songs that are different from their "normal" stuff. Another great one with Marco that is a different style is the Live version of "While Your Lips Are Still Red". Try will also do lots of stuff with flutes and bagpipe type instruments. Just have to see more of their music.
She just dropped Witcher, Skyrim and Dragonborn into 1 sendtence... I love this woman! Hahahaha🤣🤣🤣
Imagine having Floor as your background vocal
Marko is in a band called Tarot ,amazing band
He did a song with Waltari..below zero, epic song
He also plays in the Northern Kings.
The video is beautifully sad and one of my favorite .s
Your enthusiasm is delightful and infectious. It might be interesting for you to check out their music video for this song to hear how it sounds with their previous singer, Anette, harmonizing with Marko.
Double necks were REALLY popular back in the 80s and 90s (even longer back too when i think about it),but then they seemed to vanish from most stages, not with Marko obviously. He is one of thoose few that stuck by the special double neck guitar and bass. I think some lead guitarists had 2 different electric guitars as a double neck even,to have different sounds to jump back and fourth on.
Now if you wanna take an EPIC journey you should do Ayreon and the day the world breaks down absolutely EPIC song :)
