That's true. Example is true beauty's writer. She said that due to her experiences, she wrote true beauty. We can see that she holds a lot of insecurity in herself, and thus she wrote suho and seojun, her ideal types. Maybe the webtoon (or drama or whatever y'all watch) might be annoying at times, but i guess that's how her mentality was built up
I've actually read the book she read without realising. It literally just goes through the stages of a woman's life and points out the blatant sexism she's experiencing. If Korean men can't handle that they should pay their mothers compensation.
Chairman Mao said:"Women hold up half the sky.". A woman can do anything a man can (except produce sperm, of course) as long as she puts her mind to it!
Come to Korea. As anyother country girls take most of advantages and this is the reason why feminism is not popular in Korea. Because it is treated as Losers' thoughts and it is true at least in Korea. Escape from reality? Feminist girls in Korea don't do shit and they just scream for their rights, in fact they don't do shit bt screamig. This is called romanticism. I learned (painfully so), that the greater the fantasy the darker the reality. K-drama for example, the men are so enchanting and romantic because it stems from the writers IMAGINATION. The greatest and most beautiful and romantic pieces are often created by the most depressed people. It's actually the minds way of trying to cope and stabilize itself. What cannot be obtained in reality is compensated by the imagination. It's also why many of the most romantic artist are eager to jump off this mortal coil. Because at some point imagination is not enough. Go forth and enjoy your K-dramas now.

lmao there are plenty of men everywhere that are romantic and would treat their woman as well as she wanted to be treated but they don't look like those K-drama and K-pop stars nor do they make money like them. I'm glad comments like yours prove that women don't see the truth because it's not as beautiful or perfect as they wish for even when they don't meet those beauty and perfection standards themselves.
When I studied in high school in Japan and did an assignment in Japanese where I had to write about my family. When my teacher checked my assignment one of the mistakes he pointed out were that I wrote "mom" before "dad". He said in Japan they write "dad and mom", not "mom and dad". I was thinking internally that what does it matter but later on I realized.
I don't know when you went to school, but there is no such education in Japan. Perhaps it is the two-character idiom for the character for "父母"(which mean father and mother)?
I remember visiting south Korea when I was little and legit our tour guide who was a female was like "don't marry guys in Korea" she didn't say it like that but she was hinting at it
reminds me of the time my japanese language teacher told us (students in all-girls school who she knows read a lot of shoujo and romanticise it) "don't marry japanese guys" and proceeded to break down why in class. if it looks perfect, it's really not.
When I started working at a company in Japan there were a few Koreans who started at the same time as me. We all needed to go somewhere in the elevator. The elevator was full. One Korean guy got out of the elevator and used the stairs by himself just so the last girl could get in the elevator. It was one of the most gentleman moments I've seen, so I guess all this depends on the Korean guy.
That's not good advice, you'll find such men anywhere else on earth. There is a woman in the country of perfect men who has landed on one such man guaranteed.

Ppl think Korea is really good country not studying about the country. When I became a kpop fan, I only started to think about the country and their rules and regulations (I'm a political science student soo...) somethings really disappointed me but some rules and regulations were amazing ngl
I'm half Korean, I grew up abroad and my parents are feminists and when I went to SK for a visit it shocked me how men treated woman and women treated men. Why can't we just be equal why does a penis, vagina or whatever else dictate how people treat us? To clarify since the comments are a raging war I do not mean "absoulute" equality. We all have differences and they should be utilised accordingly. What I mean is that certain day to day experiences such as being treated with respect shouldn't be dictated by whether one has a penis, vagina, etc. Nor how we present ourselves. We are all human and we all deserve equal opportunity and respect along with plenty more and since "absolute" equality can never be achieved due to how our differences make us unique and how some people rise to the top and some sink to the bottom we should atleast strive for a society filled with diversity and respect without discrimination and oppression( not all since we can never truly get rid of these issues simply minimise them to the smallest percentage we can.
Nice you dont only judge men. Like almost all feminist. Thats why more and more men in western (live in switzerland but i see this change in hole europe and usa) dont realy like feminism. I weebs live in japan, Honestly, I met many japanese girl that cute and act like anime girl... So honestly, I don't really understand why people said japanese girl not like anime.... Sure, they are minority, but they aren't that rare
This is so true. I get annoyed every time a Korea obsessed girl tells me that Korean guys are perfect in terms of personality and looks. Guys, get real. Korea isn't utopia, it's a real world country. And Korean guys aren't perfect- no one is. In fact, I would say that Asian men are one of the most patriarchal people in the world (not all, ofc). The Korea you see in romntic kdramas is not real. The girls who think male leads in kdramas as realistic are delusional.
Well that depends on your own political views. I’ve always been a huge anime fan and when I found out that Japan was a more conservative country it only made me like it more.
Honestly I love Korean culture... But several things in Korea are little too much. Issues like this, racism and beauty standards are really toxic. Obsession with skin care, perfect hair & make-up, extreme dieting. These things are way too toxic. Seriously! I've been following kpop, kdrama for a long time. Even I noticed that there's a slight changes the way I behave. I slowly became Insecure. And that shit really scared the fuck out of me... I started noticing my imperfections,my weight, the way I look. Imagine a girl who is wholeheartedly against any kind of toxic feminine beauty standards set by society. Even she falls for this... Like WTF! I immediately take a break and tried to normalize things about myself!! After a few days I finally stopped worrying for this kinda toxic stuff. Tbh It was horrible! Please DO NOT support these things ever. If you are struggling with your insecurities- Just take a deep breath and LOVE YOURSELF the way you are. You've got this. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL anyway ❤️❤️

Racism bro wtf they just prefer people from their country, it's totally normal and I don't know why there are so few countries like that. Like in Japan it's easier for a japanese to find a job, buy a house and do many other things than for a foreigner. And it's really cool and kind to do this.
Just scrolled past a k-pop short saying: the reason women wear skirts so freely in Korea is because all Korean men are sweet and respectful (with pictures of BTS members in the background) Like when will the delusions end?
I can relate. I went to go visit my relatives in South Korea a few weeks ago and I was reminded every single day of my lower status as a female compared to my brother. It hurt to be treated worse than him and as much as I love my culture, this is something that needs to be fixed.

Perhaps if North Korea has fully conquered South Korea and a united Korea is Communist today, there won't be a patriarchy problem? In true Communism, people are judged by their deeds and contribution to society and not by their gender. Mao Zedong and Lenin were very strong advocates for Feminism and Gender Equality.

It's not that kdramas have shown men kind, loyal and generous. They even show the bad side of everything. But who would choose to watch "My name" over "nevertheless". People be watching all the rom-coms and then they complain about it being so nice. You need to accept any tv show or movie from anywhere is just a source of entertainment. Nothing more or less. IMO I would say there are enough Kdramas that highlight dark side of the society. Not only highlighting the problems of 1gender but every gender that exists. It's just us who choose to watch all "lovey-dovey" stuffs.
Even in many SK rom-coms, they show the male lead as toxic, invasive/neglectful, controlling, crazy-ish, narcissistic, rude to FL & her family, etc. Even older "classics" like BOF, playful kiss, Secret Garden, male leads are ab*sive bullies (even physically ab*sive). Even in the Nevertheless you mentioned, the ML is a sh*tty character and doesn't deserve the FL. People, especially the young girls, mistake all those problematic behavior & ab*se from ML as "love", because of the romantic bgm and the handsome face of the actor. Just remove the handsome face and replace the bgm, you'll see how scary and disgusting, the ML and the plot is. Remove the beautiful face of FL, and you'll see that a lot of FL characters from rom-coms, lack personal boundary, dignity and ability to think for herself. Also, a lot of rom-coms show sexual harassment (like forced kiss, dragging the FL to do stuff), as love. Many k-dramas romanticize adult-minor relationships (For ex Goblin (900+ grown ass man to 17-18yo highschooler he met when she was a fetus).

To some women, "dumping all hw work" usually means "we are sharing work? How dare he making me work"!!! This is why i am anti feminist. Feminists just want special treatment. Not equality.

Vietnam has way more gender equality than any Western country, I've lived there for years and I've seen women in literally every position of society, meanwhile seeing a female construction worker or rubbish collector is extremely rare in the West. I've also seen men do "feminine" jobs which aren't performed by men in the West. @@-haclong2366 sorry but this is such a bad example of sexism in the west, In America women don't face any obstacles to be a construction worker, police officer, etc. We have the freedom to choose our careers and you have to take into account how many women actually want to do those jobs. Most countries in Asia are very conservative. I was taught that girls can be as smart as boys by my family because I was the single daughter under one child policy but it's not the case for most others. Many of my female friends tell me how their parents treat their brothers so much better than them, who are expected to be the nanny or second mom in the family at a young age, especially the eldest daughter. Often, if the family can only afford to send one child to college it will be the son. A lot of diaspora live with the same mentality and the daughters grow up doing everything but feeling like they don't have much worth while the sons are coveted and spoiled to the bone. One of the reasons why (G)I-DLE is my favorite Kpop group is because they’re speaking up against the gender inequality and stereotypes through their songs and MVs. They’ve also done something that cleared the SK searches when they released their latest comeback Nxde. So when some pervert looks up children nude or women nude their group and new song comes up instead of the explicit content the pervert is looking up. As someone who went to American international school in Hong Kong with a bunch of Korean kids where I was bullied almost daily by Korean boys due to sexist traditional ideas that they held, this makes me very sad and angry at the dismissive attitude towards feminism in South Korea. Not only did these boys not respect the culture of the country their parents are making $ in, they also thought they had the right to regulate how girls should act or look like. I will never forget that one Korean guy who shoved me to the ground and crossed me name out on the soccer club sign up sheet while hid friends cheered him on because they didn’t think I had the right to learn how to play soccer. Mind you, I don’t think all Korean men are sexist jerks, but some extremists really find a way to twist the narrative into calling feminists “terrorists” when in fact women are just people who should not be held to a higher standard or be given restrictions.
@@stehaniemul9288 you know fighting back in Korea is against the law and the victim can get charged for “assault” even if she is defending herself? I think when you are truly interested in a country and its culture you should educate yourself concerning all aspects of it, also the dark ones, not just romanticise it. Always remember that there is no perfect place on earth, which is why we always need to be careful with our perception and also should never stop to fight for the equality of human beings everywhere. Thank you for videos like this that raise awareness to such topics!
I am from Germany and certainly thought south korea had a different approach on this. Actually weird to wrap my head around this because there are only beautiful thing's popping up in my head when I think about south korea today... I guess I have to educate myself on that topic
In Korea, every election look like a battle between men and women. Both groups hate each other. There are feminazi in Korea too. That doesn’t help either.
Because people wants to show only good side of thier country. Korea is in a major crisis on birth rate, and also a lot of gender conflicts. I think korea wouldn't last long.
I feel this issue exist everywhere in Asia. In my country(India) even though politicians support giving equal rights to women, the society has a long way to go. There is a big difference between how women are treated in cities and in villages
Sadly the problem is most feminists aren't doing enough for the people in villages. It's very hard to do so as well. So the changes made through feminism are still not accessible to the village woman nor are relevant to them. On the flip side feminism has made sure that most of the laws made are gender biased, which get used by a lot of women to exploit men. They will say they care about making men women equal but they will do nothing in real life. From rape laws to Sexual harrasment laws, dowry laws everything supposed to protect women are exploited by them. There are no consequences for false accusations either. The men who commit the real crimes are getting away by bribing people and innocent men are getting trapped in the laws made. Until corruption stops fair things won't happen anywhere.
Well, the thing is in India so-called feminists do every kind of politics instead of feminism. That's why it is becoming more difficult to advocate feminism because as soon as you mention feminism the first thing that comes to mind of people is the image of these femininazis. They are working towards promoting more gender-biased laws and projecting females as a superior race. Man, they need to respect the other genders, they can't just project them as sh*t and expect them to promote their ideology. I remember once Miss Assam said, "I think feminism is an ideology that doesn't teach ladies first rather promotes one who needs it should go first." And I think this is exactly what feminism means. The actual meaning of feminism is getting lost in this woke world and that is what is causing the further drift in our society among males and females. This is my personal opinion I don't know how much you agree to this but you are free to contradict.
I wish Indians would also criticize the "men's rights movement" as much as they criticize feminism. P.S. - I am a feminist but many of my opinions are different from the left-wing feminism in India.

Based on internet, both side aggressively attacks one another, while hating each other. I'm not a faminist, and also not a opposite, and I think the nagative feeling of the public comes from their aggressive attitude and the way they attack each other.

Perhaps if North Korea has fully conquered South Korea and a united Korea is Communist today, there won't be a patriarchy problem? It's not that kdramas have shown men kind, loyal and generous. They even show the bad side of everything. But who would choose to watch "My name" over "nevertheless". People be watching all the rom-coms and then they complain about it being so nice. You need to accept any tv show or movie from anywhere is just a source of entertainment. Nothing more or less. IMO I would say there are enough Kdramas that highlight dark side of the society. Not only highlighting the problems of 1gender but every gender that exists. It's just us who choose to watch all "lovey-dovey" stuffs.
True

It's same as saying men in Portugal are all handsome like CR7💀☠️

@@Luluskuy i don't watch naruto so i don't know sasuke's personality.😅 But yea I think you know what I mean. Like in kdrama, when it's raining and they saw the girl don't have an umbrella, they will offer their umbrella. But in reality, they don't care when you're soak in rain.😅🤣 I really don't know but my korean friend told me that.🤣🤣
I'm 16 years old Korean girl and I live in Seoul. It's really a complicated and sensitive problem in Korea. I can't even say it with my friends because I don't even know they are feminist or not. Based on internet, both side aggressively attacks one another, while hating each other. I'm not a faminist, and also not a opposite, and I think the nagative feeling of the public comes from their aggressive attitude and the way they attack each other. Some of them even say their mother or father (actually all man or woman) must vanish in the world. It's terribly irrational.... I feel like I am in an era of 'hate' where many youths hate each other everyday. I hope to live in a era of love and respect when I get older.
This was heartbreaking to read. I am sure you will get to experience your world that is filled with love. Till then hang in there and keep doing your thing ♥️ Sending you lots of love and a tight hug, dearest 🫂♥️
I hope so too... my friend
I remember this one time an Olympic gold medalist archer was heavily trolled because she had a boy haircut. Like bro y’all should be proud of her and-
That's pretty fucked up.
Honestly, she should give up her citizenship and participate on behalf of another country in the next Olympics. SKs were so stupid in that moment, it boils my blood to think about what she went through.
All that hard work and not even a single thank you, instead she got booed.
@@RKNancy You gotta change the word. It's not South Korean. It's South Korean MEN. Females supported her all the time. It's a big insult you categorized them in one group.
@monke he was also trolled by men. I saw plenty of men saying things to the effect of “yeah he looks like he spends his whole day on the internet” and “that’s exactly what I expected the guy with the most Wikipedia articles to look like”.
I watched this movie "Kim Ji Young, born 1982". And it saddened me how women were treated especially when they got married and have a child.. They will lose their birth name, their jobs.. I'm not sure but I think this is the same book that Irene (Red Velvet) read and she is being criticized by it as this book shows feminism (I think I read somewhere that the writer of the book was criticized).. I haven't read the book but the movie is great..
People are commenting about the kdramas are only showing good men but the majority of the ones I have watched, they are mostly just assholes to the women. Boys over Flowers was one of the worst I watched, she ended up marrying the guy who treats her terribly and just friending the actual sweet guy. I was so irritated at the end.
Facts. Anyway most second MLs are made to be the "loyal dog", butlerly or brotherly persona exactly because they're needed to contrast with the ML, no matter how arrogant or scumbag the ML appear to be. They're there to be the cushion and medicine for the hurt FL meanwhile she's stupidly fighting with the ML. Not every female consumer like those exact tropes though, but the majority sure eat that up like vampires.
It's to nurture the mentality of "I can fix him" between the FL and the targeted female consumers, as if most women must fix bad boys. And so, the good boys are just there to be the supportive best male friend.
*some* Korean guys be stalking and k-wording their girlfriends if they break up, like… there was a huge story in the news recently
and this never happened in america europe china india or anywhere in the world ? Or girls doing the same to men... like never I guess we don't really need female prisons
@@lexnight8345 i never said it didn't happen in other countries... stop with the whataboutism.
the fact is many korean men (old and ESPECIALLY young) are strongly anti-feminist and it is VERY apparent when there are constantly stories in the korean news about men who stalk, spy on, r*pe, and m*rder women. It is not just men who don't believe in women's rights... it's about men who think women are inferior to men and should be treated as such.
Oh my gosh thats just gaslighting and manipulation poor girls 😔
@@JundongPaeng-c4n i live in korea... and even if i didn't, there is often news about crimes against women in korea.
also Korea is not even in the world’s top 10 safest countries
@@JundongPaeng-c4n 여성 범죄 안전은 그렇게 좋은 편이 아닙니다
There's a lot of pretty boys there, but its also the first time I ever fell into a truly abusive, manipulative relationship that made me a truly see the danger of being dependent on a man for the first time. Funny, men being hella toxic to someone ready to fit their housewife role turned them independent 🤡
Be aware that in the US for instance there's not a big "pool" to choose from, and "your type" probably has similar personalities. Then suddenly there's a lot of people "your type" with *all* personalities, including ones you *never* would have tolerated if you weren't blinded by looks.
Second
In India some states like my state tamil nadu is against feminism
eyyyyyyyy we are neighbours
I think that's good
Really? Since when?
I mean I'm from TN but lost contact about it's news and stuff so..
What makes you think that a woman-led society will be better? Do you not remember what Indira Gandhi did?
@@arush-sama how?
Thanks for using this format also to spread awareness
Yes. It made me aware how whiny some feminists are. I hate irrationality.
As an older kpop fan, I remember what my mom and stepmom told me about their experiences in the 1960s United States and even how it was when I first entered the workforce in the mid 1980s. It was like what Korean women describe now. I have faith in them breaking through like we had to, I just wish we could assist them.
Of course there’s the issue of the US going backwards in some states but the way to equality is not a straight line and it has to be continuously fought for!
History isn't linear.
The US still has quite a ways to go for the BIPOC women and femmes, and transwomen. The change is still in progress worldwide.
@@Waldemarvonanhalt It's both linear and cyclical. But in general, it does repeat and we learn, adapt, and apply new knowledge each time.
@@Waldemarvonanhalt I agree. It is not at linear. Still the past 50 years has looked very different for the US and South Korea and they had to deal with things we didn’t like decades of a socially conservative military dictatorship. I absolutely don’t want to say that they’re behind us, only that they have had challenges we never had to face. But they also have smart, strong and brave feminists and I think they will continue to fight well against those who want to take that away from them
thank you for bringing this up
I'm not from Korea but this is true, my friend experienced something similar recently, but that doesn't mean all are same, In every county you will find both good and bad people.
Love from India 🇮🇳 💜 🇰🇷
Gee, I wonder why the birth rate is going down? Living expenses? Safety concerns? Job opportunities? Lack of equality for women? Take your pick!
Thank you for speaking about this! It's so true
Finally someone who actually shows scenes behind the spotlight
South Korean Women: Please prioritize our public safety, social rights and dignity.
South Korean Government: *I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.* 😀
Once upon a time,a wise netizen said:"America make superhero movie to cover the crime rate issue, japan make JAV(🧐) to cover the low population problem,so..........
Korea make a lot of fantastic relationship movie to cover those domestic violence case
This is one of my major issues with media. Shows and books are written where ideal scenes play out because entertainment is meant to be an escape from reality. But more and more people are forgetting that and instead believing that the media they consume is an accurate portrayal of real life. Now we have tons of people walking around thinking life is a fairytale and ultimately ending up so much more disappointed.
I know the first bit is a joke but the fact that many young kpop fans (and indeed a lot of armys but that's because the fandom is big and international) do equate Korea and its culture to what they know about kpop is so embarrassing, I've seen people proudly state they didn't even know Korea existed before they got into kpop... It also explains why some kpop fans are so racist despite stanning Korean idols
Women’s rights are human rights. The sexism and abuse of women in SK is what keeps me from wanting to visit.
Same here
I love how you bring up issues humorously. Keep it up.
As a person who lives in Korea & has spoken to many Korean men; they don’t show it on first sight but after a while they reveal their deep misogynist thoughts & mindset.
really? like what?
"...in your own time..."
he says calmly, knowing that Koreans are so enslaved by work that the only time they have are 5 or 4 hours to sleep
Oh well not his problem.
I always doubt that Korea was a great place for women after seeing how their beauty standards are so normalize.
You like them because of that same beauty standard they uphold themselves.
