Lin-Manuel is a genius. You’ll love this movie. The song that explains the origin of Usnavy’s name is hilarious.

I love when Metalheads discover musicals ... because those two genrea are basically the smae. Big, theatrical, overthetop, crazy music and vocals on top ...

I’m a HUGE fan of musicals (live theater and films) and it’s a lot of fun to see folks give them a try and enjoy the medium. LMM has brought a different sensibility to the genre and I’m glad that gets people to explore it. I definitely agree with the commenter who mentioned “Tick Tick Boom.” I would suggest checking out some of the musicals that paved the way for LMM, such as “RENT” and “Hair.”

And the cameo of Chris Jackson Aka Washington (in Hamilton) as Mister Softy (ice cream man)! Also the post credits scene w/ LMM & Chris Jackson is Hilarious!

Yes Anthony Ramos who plays the lead part for In the Heights movie played John Lauren’s/Philip Hamilton, in Hamilton, He’s amazing! LMM keeps his friends in his musicals. I got a kick out the cameos of Chris Jackson Aka Washington (in Hamilton) as the Mister Softy ice cream man! And the post credit scene. Fun fact in the original stage production of in the Heights LMM played the lead, Chris Jackson played Benny & Anthony Ramos auditioned but didn’t get casted. Fast forward 12 years and Anthony Ramos is playing the lead part!

I love watching people discover Lin. You're the first person I've seen go Heights after Hamilton rather than Encanto so thanks for this. I absolutely recommend Encanto if you haven't seen it yet. For more musicals, I definitely second everyone saying Rent, which was the musical that made Lin want to do Broadway. Also definitely second the person that recommended Chicago. The movie adaptation actually won the Oscar for Best Picture that year.

I'm glad you're enjoying this. The pacing is a bit slow, you can see the learning curve between this and Hamilton. This was LMM's first Broadway show. LMM is amazing & his work definitely changed Broadway. If you're interested in other musicals I'd suggest 'Tick Tick Boom' (directed by LMM) and 'Rent'. Maybe 'Little Shop of Horrors' which is a more old school musical but a fun B horror movie comedy. I kinda hate any musical directed by Tom Hooper (looking at you Cats - use a freaking click track, your music is out of sync, why is Rebel singing the harmony as the melody line). I love 'Into the Woods', but watch the stage play with the legendary Bernadette Peters. Disney killed the plot of the movie version.

Seconding Tick Tick Boom and Little Shop. There’s just not a good version of RENT out there - maybe the last performance they filmed on broadway, but I’d have to rewatch.

Also agree with Tick Tick Boom but not the Andrew Garfield version (Ugh)🙄.
Anything written by my Aussie men Tim Minchin & Eddie Perfect such as Matilda the Musical & Beetlejuice The Musical are amazing.
Also the Original American Cast of Wicked with Idina Menzel as Elphaba will amaze you, I would also recommend if you enjoy the music of Queen to check out the Rock Opera “We Will Rock You” by Ben Elton.

LMM is a unique talent & an amazing human being. You should react to the mash up that LMM did with Ben Platt of the songs You Will be Found from Dear Evan Hanson & Tonight from Hamilton in response to the shooting at Parkland High School in Florida. It is profound & beautiful, recorded to support the survivors of that tragedy.

Chicago is one of the most brilliant movie adaptations of a stage work ever. The musical itself was waaaay ahead of its time for 1975 Broadway. It was set in the mid-1920s, but audiences of the 1970s just couldn't handle the dark view of America that Chicago presented. If you want an idea of what the movie is like, look for the Cell Block Tango.

I highly recommend finding the original broadway cast performance of 96,000 from the Tony awards show here on RUclips. Lin was Usnavi and Chris Jackson (George Washington from Hamilton) plays Benny (the guy with the shirt and tie) - it's a phenomenal performance.

You might want to get to see the inspiration for Hamilton, Lin Manuel's father Luis. Their interaction is great in this interview. ruclips.net/video/TU7Ck9NMrKM/видео.html
There is also a documentary, Siempre Luis, on HBO. Originally from NYC & I never knew he was a backbone in political activism.
