Thanks for the detailed instructions, can’t wait to try the eye test at address. Had a putting lesson recently where I learned my aim had been off as shoulder line was slightly closed, thinking I was square, and therefore my aim was off and created several other faults in my putting. Instant improvement within that lesson once aim, stance, and stroke came together better. Love your system of figuring out where eyes should be relative to ball, will hopefully add more precision to my setup. Thank you!
Thumbs up for mentioning the one handed drill! Best drill I can think of for controlling distance - I even use it in matches on severely downhill sloping greens.
very useful, I had found a similar video a couple of months ago. involved putting up a string between 2 tees, and then place 3 balls in line to a hole over 20 feet or so. What it also involved is a trick to determine whether you are left or right eye dominant, which is not a must do, but still useful to know. (which eye you close if you try to focus through binoculars is the non-dominant one - easy for me as a bird watcher :-). You can also spot right handed right eye dominant player by the way they tilt their head more when peeking at the hole.) Knowing where to position your eye(s) above the ball did indeed help me a lot not second guessing my line. Needed to change my grip a little down the handle to consistently place my left eye on the inside perimeter of the ball, not above the center. It's all true.
That was a really informative video! I recently switched to the Tommy Fleetwood pencil grip after trying them all. Your perception drill intrigued me as a frequently miss right. A detached retina that was fixed in the left eye maybe has something to do with that. My partners often tell me I was lined up wrong.
@@Gilesgillgolf So not being at the course I practiced with an alignment stick & a guitar pick with the point facing forward. For years I've been putting with my left eye(bad one) over the ball because I thought that was what one was supposed to do. Using this eye positioning drill I definitely did better with the ball near or right under my right eye(my dominant eye). Wonder why I never thought of this. I'm going to try it on the course next week & see what happens. Thanks for the tip Giles!
Thanks for doing this video. I found it very helpful as I’m struggling with putting. I also found your Lesson on putting very helpful. I will try the exercises you described in this video.
Never considered eye dominance. It makes sense, though. I’ll read a putt, and then 2nd, 3rd (and time permitting 4th) guess the read and end up trying to change things in the backswing. I generally only putt well when not taking the time to think after a read. 😂
My putting average is now at 1.6 stroke per round, thanks to reverse claw grip. But I also use a method by a US coach I have never seen in the UK. Slight compression on the ball, tight your stomach muscles ( as if your ready to receive stomach punch), elbows tucked and rotate the torso only all limbs remain without movement. For practice an alignment stick under the arms. Tempo and green reads all rests upon the green speed. Using a balanced 2 ball, TBH i have a spare Anser style putter and really don't see any difference too. Funny your single right handed practice I do in practice as my right hand grip is almost not needed anyway.
Interesting. Most elite putters always say the left hand control the face and the right hand controls the speed. Interesting to hear yours is different
Would definitely love to see more putting videos Giles! A quick question, do you release the putter at all or try stay quite firm with the wrists at impact?
I absolutely loved this! Putting has been my Achilles Heel in my game , I will definitely be using these tips to improve my putting. Thank you for sharing this great lesson.
Excellent tips on putting Giles! I have been using the palm putting grip for a number of years. I have recently gone from a standard grip to an oversize grip in order to take the wrists out of the stroke. When I was playing to a single digit handicap, my average putts were 26 per round. On some nines, I would have as few as 12 putts. Since getting older, I have had cataract surgery in my left eye (my dominant eye) and had a corrective lens put in. I think this has led to an imbalance because my right eye is still normal vision. I now miss a lot of putts on the edges. Until my right eye has the surgery, I'll just have to be patient and take a little more time in my routine. Well Done Giles! Keep up the good work!!!
This is my first ever putting video!! Did you enjoy it? And do you want more putting videos?
Love your putting lessons
Not just putting more short game in general. Everything from 50 yards in

Good Giles . No confusing narrative , just easy to understand putting tops . Thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
Yes, would love to see more putting videos. Also chipping videos.
Awesome and yes I’ve got more short game videos to come!

Yes please. As usual, very well done. Thank you. Anxious to get to the practice green and work on this lesson.
Awesome, thank you!

This could be the hidden key to helping you putt better. Let me know the results after that drill!

Great video Giles. I really like the eye dominance test / set up. I haven't seen this before. I am definitely going to try that. Thanks

I will try tip two now at home as I have never seen it before
I hope it worked for you!
Tip 2 is awesome. I am like you. My eyes must be inside the ball. If I put them over the ball, then the line points left.
Exactly the same! Hope this helps you find the perfect position
Great tips 👍
Thank you

There will always be a release but the feel depends on your tendencies

It could be interesting to see you do the second drill as your eyes might’ve changed and therefore overtime your eye position would need to change
Allowing the putter to coast through was something I was taught by Mike Kanski and it really helped me to produce a much better roll on the ball.
It’s such a key to great putting
