  • So I'm an old fashioned 80's CB'er who likes big home base radios like we had in the 80's, so here is my new Ranger RCI 69.
    Thanks to Brian at www.truckcbsales.com for sorting out the tuning/alignment and the conversion.

    I too was an 80's CB'er / DX'er and it was a lot of fun. I used a President Madison with 250 Boomer. My antenna was 2-element 11 meter quad on a home made (80ft) pipe tower. I remember talking to guys in Ireland and some of them was members of the shamrock club. Used to talk to the guy who sold the Wilson line of antennas in Europe/UK. Think his name was Ben maybe? Anyway, so many memories. Talked to many Countries. Someone sent me a really neat and detailed map of Ireland. I talked to all counties. If it hadn't have been for mobile stations, I wouldn't have likely got them all. Anyway, have fun and enjoy your radio.

      Yes, indeed, it has however, been sitting in it's box for the last year, hardly used due to office relocation.
      For people who like nostalgia for old, big, 80's homebase CB radios, this is the one to go for. So, it's not about the price, but the presence and functionality of the radio.
      You never know, it might be for sale at some point!

    Looks good, glad to see Fm is helping sales, and what does the band switch do,
    Because it's just 1 band , CB, so I am interested.
    My cbs are 1961 to 1980 , I started with a 1 watt h/h in 1974, and got to another hh 84 km away,
    So I was hooked in. Never looked back....

    This looks like my RCI 2980 and thats was a great radio, i bought one of these, now i wonder if someone can tell me how to change out the power supply, because the radio is coming from America and i now live in Australia and its a different Voltage, America is 110 volts while in Australia its 240 volts, i know i can get a step down converter but at some stage it will be better to change the power supply, does anyone know which power supply i would need?, and is it something i could change out myself?, hope someone can answer my questions....

    That's a gorgeous radio! How is the transmit audio? I used it's grandfather, a Jumbo 3, back in the early '90s. I worked many stations and was very happy with it, but the transmit audio was never quite what I wanted in that it was a little tinny/scratchy compared to the warmth of Uniden boarded radio audios. Whatever it sounds like, I bet you love just sitting looking at it, I know I would if it were mine :)

    • @CircleOfWhiteLight
      @CircleOfWhiteLight  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I got this for nostalgic reasons. I also had a Jumbo and a President Madison, but the RCI 69 is the modern version with more power and more toys!
      Be warned! It does have reliability issues. It's currently with the local repair man having a few things sorted out and it's only two weeks old.
      But your right, it does look good as a radio.

  • @gc12gladiator
    @gc12gladiator 2 года назад

    Please could you tell me if it works on 220v in the UK without modifying the ac inside the radio. I just bought one too from the US out of pure nostalgia. In the 80,s I used to own an Excalibur SSB!

    • @CircleOfWhiteLight
      @CircleOfWhiteLight  2 года назад

      Yes, it does but you have to make sure that it is switched over to the UK power before you switch it on. THe wiring for the plug is also not the same, so you will need to make sure you wire it correctly.

    • @gc12gladiator
      @gc12gladiator 2 года назад

      @@CircleOfWhiteLight Thank you. I assume the switch is located outside of the case? As regards to the plug, can’t you use a simple US to U.K. adapter plug?

    • @CircleOfWhiteLight
      @CircleOfWhiteLight  2 года назад

      @@gc12gladiator I think the switch is located on the inside of the case on the power supply. I had the engineer do it, so I didn't need to do anything. You could use a U.S. adapter and convert the power to 220, but I wanted it running on Irish mains (the same as the UK), so I wired the plug to suit.

    Open it up and look for some black blobs of whatever it is he uses when he works on radios. Check out FineTuneCBShop channel and search "Trucks". You'll see a bunch of videos where he opens up radios that were worked on by Truck's CB. I'm not trying to promote FineTune. I actually think that he's also a hack. Not to mention his holier-than-thou attitude. But he may provide some insight.
