Been following WW2 since the September 1st 1939 episode and watching the Pearl special minute by minute as much as I could - and all I can say is wow, this special was phenomenal. Every perspective was covered in excellent detail and the combination of World of Warships/Warplanes gameplay with historical footage, maps and diagrams worked fantastically. I've watched several Pearl documentaries but this one definitely has to be the best. Really stellar work guys, time to join the TimeGhost Army :)
"No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory."
FDR had some power and anger there, and telling so many millions of people that they have been attacked cant be an easy thing, but by the end of it I was afraid for the Japanese, what a thing it is to think you are a badass and kick a sleeping bear in the balls from behind. What terrible vanity such warhawks have.
@@vksasdgaming9472 I am looking forward to the D-Day special and the reading of Communique #1, quite simply in my opinion the most important sentence uttered in the 20th Century.
You have to stop and respect the attention that was given to the clocks in the background of this whole 10 part series. They are always on time, in every shot, ticking together. This leads me to believe that between every live shot someone would take each clock off the wall, set them to the proper time, and start them all together in sync, or that Indie did the entire 10 part series in all one long take. And to be honest, i'm not sure which would be more impressive.
Guys, I cannot tell you how impressed I am by this. Watching this has eaten up my entire afternoon and most of the evening, and I think I learned more from it than all the history I studied in school. Content like this is what the internet was made for.
I loved how they covered the attacks, and while we waited for new developments they sprikled in personal stories of the men and women and technological aspects of this event
This is, by far, the greatest and most thorough documentary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that I have ever witnessed. I offer my greatest appreciation to the entire team for such an exhaustive effort.
I can remember interviewing 2 Pearl Harbor Survivors in the mid 1990's. The one thing that they said was the oil, and fire on the water and they were swimming as fast as they could to get out of the water being just coated in oil. They did not want to burn. Even now, you can feel FDR in the speech, but listening to people that were alive in 1941 and old enough on what they felt. That was covered better than I have ever seen. The US was at war and GOD forbid who gets into their way. I can remember seeing my step moms fathers graduating class from Medical school. Half of them were in uniform already, with the remainder going to be with in the next few weeks. Then there was the training of men too old for combat in rural areas to cover medical needs.
Just finished watching the last episode. I am very proud and honored to have been able to provide some small financial contribution to the development of these 10 episodes. By far, the most thorough and brilliantly illustrated documentary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Well done, Indy, Spartacus, and Astrid and the rest of the amazing team that managed to put this together under such a tight timeframe.
If my memory's correct, most Americans actually didn't knew he was in a wheelchair. This might sounds strange today, but back then television broadcasts and interviews and all that where rare. This is why most films and pictures show him in a normal chair, he was put in before the cameras started rolling. Some off the press knew about, but out of respect they didn't picture him that way.
I have not been strafed, bombed, torpedoed, sunk, shot down, burnt or drowned, but I'm still fatigued after this marathon. Thank you ever so much for this brilliant piece of documentary. It really shines. Will watch again!
This series was by far the very best and most in-depth telling of the Pearl Harbor story that I have seen in my 53 years of existence. I'm flabergasted at the fact I found this tucked away on a youtube scroll and not on a nationally sindicated history documentary. It is simply and brilliantly amazing!
I don't give a fk about D-day. It's just a overhyped battle of few weeks . I hope they give attention to the burma campaign and battle of kursk. Those were the actual turning points.
As a history master I can really appreciate this enormous task your team has done. You have given us informational, entertaining and much exiting show to watch on these difficult times. If there is some kind of award for RUclipsrs, these ten episodes would really deserve it.
What can I say. I've seen hundreds of documentaries over the last 56 years about the lead-up to-, and the attack. I'd thought I'd seen every video, every photo, and heard every account of the action. Kudos to the team for showing me a lot of new reality. This series should be mandatory for all American students as part of a history curriculum. Evenly balanced, no histrionics, very impressive.
@M. DeV. That is a gross Understatement and downplaying of the Importance of Operation Overlord, as well as the sheer Preparation, Effort and Cost in both Material and Human Life that went into the D-Day-Landings.
@M. DeV. which the Russians could not have done had Germany not been fighting in Italy, several Partisans throughout the occupied territories, and eventually, while the USSR would play a major role in winning the war, I would hardly call D-day a small diversion. It was the largest naval invasion in history and served to finally snap the German eagles back, without it, Russia would’ve still won, but they wouldn’t have been able to win as quickly as they did in real life. Stalin himself recognized the importance of both American and British support in the war, in the opening years he was supplied massively by the US and the allies, so no, D-day was no simple diversion, but in fact, the final nail in NAZI Germanys coffin by a combined world effort to end fascism
when you guys said you wanted to do this i thought you had lost it. Covering minute by minute, using graphics from a video game and the overall long format all pointed at this documentary series being a hot mess. Boy was that wrong. This wasn't just hugely informative and very well explained, it was actually immersive. It didn't feel like traditional educational content, it felt closer to reading a novel about the events at Pearl Harbour. I have nothing but high praise and congratulations to everyone involved, I hope you guys are really proud of yourselves and of this masterpiece
This is brilliant. I had a great uncle who was wounded in Pearl Harbor. Thank you for honoring him and those who frought to free the world. Never forget.
Watched the whole thing today and just finished. Hearing FDR’s speech gets me every time. Thank you guys for doing this. Blew expectations out of the water.
Congratulations Indy, Spartacus, Astrid, and crew, you succeeded to bring history back and alive on all levels, from sailor-level to diplomats level, to all WW2 history lovers in the world; and what a spectacular ending of your historic 10 episodes series about the Pearl Harbor attack with President Franklin Roosevelt delivering the "day of infamy" speech to the US Congress
December 11, 1941: Nazi Germany officially declares war on the United States, and gives Winston Churchill and Great Britain the greatest gift they ever could.
@@edlawn5481 Hitler also thought that by pushing the US into a war, when the nation was largely in favor of remaining neutral, he was somehow hurting Roosevelt politically. Hitler was delusional.
Hitler felt he had to show solidarity with the last remaining significant power in the world he could possibly have as an ally -refusing to recognise that Germany and Japan would be fighting their own wars in their own theatres to their own ends and would never coordinate with each other. This Axis was no true alliance, each hoped the other would divert enemy forces onto itself. He also wanted to ensure that any war with the US would be at his instigation, not theirs, to act rather than be acted on. His navy were for, his army against (one day we're not at war with the US, the next we are and we have not done anything to prepare for it, compare the months of preparation before Barbarossa, which was as doomed to failure). Hitler's declaration made it easier for FDR and his command to put Germany first, this would have been more difficult in public opinion as the Japanese had started hostilities and were to them the enemy.
Except that the Federation probably threw the Asteroid on Buenos Aires and not the Bugs to create a compelling casus belli for the people. But I also get the Starship Troopers feeling, when Indy says "If you like to learn more..." and look into the top right corner of the screen.
I just want to say to the Indy and team, this has been a the best historical documentary of Pearl harbor I have seen. It has been a great ride so far, and its only going to be much greater, I am glad I got to contribute a little bit to make this documentary reality. Keep up the amazing work Indy and team.
This series is brilliant. It not only gets into granular detail, but also ties those details to political and strategic thinking at the highest levels of each country's government to give an overall picture of what the decision-makers knew and what motivated them at the time.
I’m trying to figure out why the 20th century could be considered over in 1989... the collapse of the USSR and bloc? They’re not gone, by a long shot. They’re defeated just like Germany in 1918. The anti-American forces of darkness and socialism are alive and well, tearing at our republic every day. I knew this whole thing would fall apart, I just hoped I’d be dead first so I wouldn’t have to see it.
Thank you for this documentary! As a social studies teacher from West Virginia, you have made my day with the quality and accuracy of this documentary! I will be showing this to my students for years to come. Please keep up the great work! Thank You
FDR made me feel alright at the end, like a parent telling you it's gonna be ok, but instead he's saying there's gonna be nuclear hellfire revenge for this.
The entire series was top notch. Five stars. Thank you for your hard work. And for also including Roosevelt's speech in its entirety. December 8th was my dad's birthday, I once asked him what he remembered of his 5th birthday. All he remembered was everyone sitting around listening to the radio...
Great speech to end the series with. I like how he asked congress to declare that a state of war has existed, not to declare war. Leaving no doubt that this will be tolerated or backed down from.
Amazing job by everyone involved! My grandfather served in the Pacific in WW2, though thankfully he was at sea and not at Pearl that day. He didn't talk much about his experiences in either war before he passed so it's been a passion of mine to learn as much as possible. Thank you for being such a bountiful resource!
Review: Political and economic background 5/5; Human toll 5/5; Minute by minute account 5/5; Technical description, especially concerning aircraft and naval armament 3/5; Pronunciation of foreign and even American English names 4/5. Overall 9/10. Great series overall! Keep up the great work! (In the future I would run the script by a naval expert like Drachinifel and an armament expert like Ian from Forgotten Weapons or C&Rsenal).
When I stumbled on this series and gave Ep1 a try I was immediately drawn into it with the amazing depth of facts, this is how documentaries SHOULD be! I loved every minute of it, I watched all 10 episodes straight through, fantastic job and thank you!!
Congratulations Indy, I was thoroughly entertained by this documentary, it really stands out to me for its effort in uniqueness, I especially like the voice actor for Mitsuo, genuine energy and depth in his speech.
- Hungary declared war on the US. - Hungary? - Yes, Kingdom of Hungary. - Oh, so they have a king... - No, their leader is a navy admiral. - I see, a maritime nation... - No, matter of fact, they're landlocked. Surrounded by hostile countries who took their land. Romania is their main enemy. - So they're at war against Romania, too, I suppose? - Not at all. They're on the same side as Romania. Against the US. - Got it. The US are their hostile neighbour, too. - Hell no, they never bordered each other...
The best part of this documentary is that it talks not only about the attack itself, but also about what led to it, how it changed the world, and how it affected people who lived in Oahu at the time.
GREAT JOB GUYS & GALS...I viewed beginning live yesterday, Dec 7 but did not have an opportunity to post any messages. I commented several months ago about being pleasantly surprised to see WW2-The First Year Week by Week on Amazon...I have no doubt this endeavor was undertaken and completed to be distributed to different platforms including Amazon. Thank you for allowing us to witness your work free of charge. (With Amazon's week-by-week episodes I wish the decision to remove the intros were not made as I always pause and attempt to figure out what Indy is talking about, talking to, and from which perspective)...Anycase, IMPRESSIVE AND CREATED, PRESENTED IN SUCH A DIFFICULT MANNER...PRESENTING FACTS, REMOVING PREJUDICE, BIAS AND NOT INTERJECTING ANY SUBTLE JABS OR AGENDAS...which occur too often with both fictional and supposedly historical documentaries...JOB WELL DONE!!! To SPARTY...BUSTED!!! I forgot which episode but was near the middle episode...I quote was to be shared by a voice actor....as I heard this raspy voiceover began to share the quote from a soldier (a soldier which didn't have a photo available if memory serves me correctly)... a few words into the quote I may have verbally stated, "THAT'S SPARTY!!!"... Although, the "tenor" was altered somewhat there was little mistaking the unique changes in the cadence, infliction of words or manner of enunciating each word of the quote, and the manner which Sparty is EMPHASIZING specific words or syllables (not necessarily placing em-PHA-sis on WRONG SYL-LAB-us which Sparty doesn't do)...I recognized it was SPARTY...hard to disguise his unique, trademarked style of delivery...from Captain Kirk of the Enterprise to Howard Cosell of the Sports World...we have Sparty of the Historical Realm to present to us in the most theatrical, dramatic ways ...including the pausing... which Sparty utilizes perfectly...Apologizem I digress My only point being, although he attempted to disguise his voice it was rather apparent who was speaking which for some odd reason I envisioned Sparty being recorded in a sound room, reading the script, and Indy at the controls behind the glass sipping on his scotch and water interrupting Sparty every other word ...ie. messing with Sparty for hours just because... In closing, I was reminded once again that although I thought I knew everything there was to know about Dec 7, 1941, from tactics, strategy, timing, politics, economic, national, and global aspects both pre and post...and as occurs weekly as I am reminded...I'm "NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW" ...which these episodes certainly apply... As an American in my mid-50s (geez can not believe I am so old-- so soon!!!!) I learned information I have never known before and or clarity was provided. Therefore, once again, thank all of you again for allowing us to witness your work. Thanks
This series, and this group of special episodes in particular should be shown in school so that young people can truly understand this important period in history.
The 10 part documentary series was one hell of a watch probably greater than any documentary i watched before. Time ghost and this channel have really outdone themselves. Thank you!
First off, I want to directly thanks everyone who worked to make this 5 hour long documentary possible. A couple tiny mistakes here and there but otherwise a fantastic piece of work. Be proud and have a pint to celebrate. You deserve it. Secondly, for those like me who might want to know more about what went on after the bombs ceased to fall at Pearl Harbor, there is an excellent three part series by Drachinifel on the salvage of Pearl Harbor. It is not a full and complete list of everything that went on but catches most of the major developments.
Man, that ending speech gave me chills! These last two episodes do a great job explaining why Japan went to war with the US and the larger regional and international situation that led to the 'day of infamy' - if only it was as easy to explain why human beings, as individuals, go to war; then we might find a way to end them once and for all. This 10-part series has been incredible by the way, a step and beyond even your usual excellent coverage.
This was great. Thanks. The last part is really important to understand how and why it happened. A descent into madness, and there is no going back now.
This whole series is a piece of perfection and art! I remember seeing the british pottery throwdown challenge where Keith Brymer Jones cries every time he is presented with a masterpiece. I am in tears now, this was so overwhelmingly good...
Closing in with FDR speech was a great touch. That was an amazing documentary of just one attack, that lasted a few hours, covering all sorts of aspects. I really wish all major battles could be covered that way, but I cannot imagine struggle of doing just this one. I salute to everybody that supported and continue to support TimeGhost.
During my time in the USN, I was stationed at the Naval War College in Newport RI. I was an enlisted support type. I did get to sit in on several lectures about the geopolitical situation during the run up to WWII. The Navy has reams and reams of documents on the attack. They can take months to teach the theory of the attack and the state of the world at that time. This is really good. You cover so many parts that only a few have before outside of the Naval classroom.
@Percy Harry Hotspur Far be it for me to defend the cartoon that's Mousolini, but you might be a bit harsh on him by claiming he would not send reinforcements to East Africa. The moment Italy declared war on UK, there was no longer any way for Italy to supply or reinforce East Africa. From that moment it's was pretty much fucked. The best that could be expected from the troops there would have been to tie up as many British and Commonwealths forces there as possible and away from North Africa and Europe.
As serious and well done as this series is, I couldn't help but burst out laughing at that British officer who believed the Italian Air Force superior to the Japanese.... I think I laughed for a solid minute at that thought.
The British and Americans had an amazingly myopic view that Japan wasn't capable of indigenous innovation. Amazingly accurate intelligence reports clearly describing a new Japanese plane would inevitably end with "this is an obviously copy of a Heinkel"
The multitude of attacks today, the beginning of the enormous Japanese offensive and the “all-the-marbles” shot at glorious empire, and the sudden entry of the sleeping giant- the US- into the war has changed the entire nature of the conflict. I'd never heard Roosevelt's full speech. Thanks, that was awesome! And thanks for all of this...been a fan since the Great War days.
I watched the entire series and this ending just gave me chills... made me feel like I was hearing FDR say that speech over my radio rn
that slow and powerful cadence- it took 22 seconds for that one opening sentence. Nobody then or 79 years later was squirming
I really hope that Indy & co. end this series at september 2024 with hopeful, blunt statement of General MacArthur.
Thank you
I loved how they covered the attacks, and while we waited for new developments they sprikled in personal stories of the men and women and technological aspects of this event
This is, by far, the greatest and most thorough documentary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that I have ever witnessed. I offer my greatest appreciation to the entire team for such an exhaustive effort.
The oil won't magically move itself? That's not what Hearts of Iron 4 says!
Japan should have tried artillery only.
I've just finished this episode, a towering achievement by everyone involved. Well done
Thank you
Just finished watching the last episode.
Everybody gangsta until the man in the wheelchair stands-up...
The stroke came later.
@@thilgu but the polio which paralyzed FDR came in 1921, eleven years before being elected president and twenty years before Pearl Harbor.
@@crazy031089 How the press has changed over the past century didn't it? In many ways we progressed and in many other ways we declined in a 100 years.

This series was by far the very best and most in-depth telling of the Pearl Harbor story that I have seen in my 53 years of existence. I'm flabergasted at the fact I found this tucked away on a youtube scroll and not on a nationally sindicated history documentary. It is simply and brilliantly amazing!
What a ride!! A big thank you to everyone who worked to bring this to life.
Brilliant series! I can't wait to see whats done for D-Day...
It’ll be the longest special about the longest day...
Oh man I hope they do something similar
Battle of Kurks is more epic.
I don't give a fk about D-day. It's just a overhyped battle of few weeks . I hope they give attention to the burma campaign and battle of kursk. Those were the actual turning points.
@@dot6441
Stalingrad was the actual turning point. But its too long so i doubt they will do minute by minute. I do hope they do something special
Me on December 7, 2020: Pearl Harbor documentary was the best WW2 project
World War Two on June 6, 2023: False!
Imagine doing both Operation Bagration AND Operation Overlord. Who knows, they might even do a Midway hour by hour?!
@M. DeV. That is one heck of a way to describe the greatest seaborne invasion in the history of mankind.
oh my god its just gonna keep getting better and better
when you guys said you wanted to do this i thought you had lost it.
This project has been a fantastic achievement. I hope everyone who worked on it is proud. Each should be.
Watched the whole thing today and just finished. Hearing FDR’s speech gets me every time. Thank you guys for doing this. Blew expectations out of the water.
Yeah with bombs, depth charges and torpedoes
Congratulations Indy, Spartacus, Astrid, and crew, you succeeded to bring history back and alive on all levels, from sailor-level to diplomats level, to all WW2 history lovers in the world; and what a spectacular ending of your historic 10 episodes series about the Pearl Harbor attack with President Franklin Roosevelt delivering the "day of infamy" speech to the US Congress
December 11, 1941: Nazi Germany officially declares war on the United States, and gives Winston Churchill and Great Britain the greatest gift they ever could.
Hitler was counting on Japan to in return help against the USSR, Japanese were like "Hey, we're not stupid!"
@@edlawn5481 Hitler also thought that by pushing the US into a war, when the nation was largely in favor of remaining neutral, he was somehow hurting Roosevelt politically. Hitler was delusional.
Churchill be like "Thank god for Pearl Harbor!"
@@onekill31 and Churchill will manipulate the Americans until George C. Marshall tells him that American troops will not be landing on Rhodes.

"Wait, where is everyone going!?"
"WAR! WE'RE GOING TO WAR!!"

I just want to say to the Indy and team, this has been a the best historical documentary of Pearl harbor I have seen. It has been a great ride so far, and its only going to be much greater, I am glad I got to contribute a little bit to make this documentary reality. Keep up the amazing work Indy and team.
This has been the most amazing documentary created outlining our nation’s entry into World War II I have ever seen on RUclips.
This series is brilliant. It not only gets into granular detail, but also ties those details to political and strategic thinking at the highest levels of each country's government to give an overall picture of what the decision-makers knew and what motivated them at the time.
The 'short 20th century' between 1914-89 was quite a ride.
Yes it was. But so far the 21st century hasn't been a walk in the park either.
Thank You
That was a hell of a ride.
It also made me quite miserable.

Best Pearl Harbor documentary ever, by far. If you ever consider releasing as a DVD or something, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
This was an amazing series, thanks for all the research and hard work that went into it - definitely worth it!
Great speech to end the series with. I like how he asked congress to declare that a state of war has existed, not to declare war. Leaving no doubt that this will be tolerated or backed down from.
That *is* the way Declarations of War are done. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_war_by_the_United_States
Review: Political and economic background 5/5; Human toll 5/5; Minute by minute account 5/5;
Technical description, especially concerning aircraft and naval armament 3/5; Pronunciation of foreign and even American English names 4/5. Overall 9/10.
Great series overall! Keep up the great work!

Glad you straightened that out😂😂🇺🇸🇭🇺
The best part of this documentary is that it talks not only about the attack itself, but also about what led to it, how it changed the world, and how it affected people who lived in Oahu at the time.
Although, the "tenor" was altered somewhat there was little mistaking the unique changes in the cadence, infliction of words or manner of enunciating each word of the quote, and the manner which Sparty is EMPHASIZING specific words or syllables (not necessarily placing em-PHA-sis on WRONG SYL-LAB-us which Sparty doesn't do)...I recognized it was SPARTY...hard to disguise his unique, trademarked style of delivery...from Captain Kirk of the Enterprise to Howard Cosell of the Sports World...we have Sparty of the Historical Realm to present to us in the most theatrical, dramatic ways ...including the pausing... which Sparty utilizes perfectly...Apologizem I digress
My only point being, although he attempted to disguise his voice it was rather apparent who was speaking which for some odd reason I envisioned Sparty being recorded in a sound room, reading the script, and Indy at the controls behind the glass sipping on his scotch and water interrupting Sparty every other word ...ie. messing with Sparty for hours just because...
Thanks

Congratulations team. An amazing achievement in the history of documentary filmmaking. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yes
During my time in the USN, I was stationed at the Naval War College in Newport RI. I was an enlisted support type. I did get to sit in on several lectures about the geopolitical situation during the run up to WWII. The Navy has reams and reams of documents on the attack. They can take months to teach the theory of the attack and the state of the world at that time. This is really good. You cover so many parts that only a few have before outside of the Naval classroom.

So what you want, but the Italian Airforce had very competent and great aircraft.
@@RazgrizWing Yep. The only real issue was that they were expensive to make and they couldn't make nearly enough of them.
Apparently, their navy did alright from what I believe.
This series is brilliant in it's research and presentation. It should be required viewing in every history class in every school in America.
Yeah. That was like saying "my paper airplane is a better air force than the Japanese air force". It was a sarcastic insult.
Single best documentary series I have ever seen on Pearl Harbor.
Bravo.
Ending with President Roosevelt's speech was powerful and moving.
