i come back to this video every once in a while. this time around, its spring break of my first year in college, and i decided to major in music. my horn professor asked me recently, during a discussion about ensembles, "why do we willingly participate in ensembles? what makes us want to do this?" and I walked out of his office struggling with the question. i knew simple answers: the social aspects, trust building with others, developing technical skills in music and personal skills such as punctuality and individual responsibility. but i still have felt like there was something missing from my reasoning. and as i was scrolling through my youtube homepage today, this video came up for me to rewatch. this was recorded before the pandemic, when we couldn't even imagine the possibility of ensemble playing being taken away. and now i look back and i see that playing with people, as an ensemble, is just something that cannot be replaced. so many human bodies, all connected and interwoven by creating music - creating sounds that sound beautiful, and convey meaning, and allow us to be vulnerable, sometimes without speaking a word. all that being said, this video reminds me of why i love what i do. music creates beautiful things, inside and outside of the actual creation of music.
There is so much beauty in the world. There’s ugliness too. But when you can fit and squeeze all of that beauty into one apartment-and block out the ugliness-it’s even more beautiful. In fact, it's kinda magical. Thank you, Vanisha, Drew and all of y'all for this! 💖
Song is making me cry: music a path to commemorate what is lost, and to help all of us understand and forgive ourselves and others. Thank you wonderful musicians and the beautiful singer who wrote, and sang, her beautiful song.
First time I heart this song, I loved the music, but as english is not my native language, I didn't pay too much attention to the lyrics. On a second listening...man that was touching!.
If anyone is still reading this: just know that this has been a song for comfort for me, and every time I come back, it is as warm and beautiful as I want it to be. Thank you.
I love the name Donovan. I’ve never given birth but I was pacing my floor in college (instead of doing my homework) and this came out.😂 thank you sincerely for asking💕

I saved this to play it when I need to remember the joy in life. They did a great job on this piece. It's ashamed it was not recorded.

It is an original song by the lovely Vanisha Gould (the main singer)!
@@ApartmentSessions it's so beautiful!!! It sounds like it should be a play or something.
Vanisha's vocals remind me of Nina Simone, it's a bit spooky actually
