I am a music composition minor with an emphasis in jazz studies, but this song quite simply captures something so uniquely spiritual and beautiful, simplicity and complexity entangled together, I wish that songs I hear composed these days always came with this level of ability to ellicit awe from those who hear it. Her playing is a steady comforting presence, an inviting shoulder to lean on, yet it's distant, it feels longing for a closenes and warmth that we are to closed to offer. Her voice is unique and haunting in an almost familiar way. It's playful in moments, and reflects of deep and personal conversations with old friends that the winds of time have long carried away into faint echos in our memories, and is uniquly vulnerable and uneasy in an almost existential way, it's so effective and georgous. The lyrics are interesting, they feel intimate and personal and kinda introspective and a bit silly in a sad way. They have an almost melancholic feel yet are trying to humor us, it's a bittersweet smile towards a partner, that says I'm right here, yet it feels like theres a canyon between us.
It may not be an issue with a lot of people but I’ve always had a really hard time playing a melody on the guitar while singing. I usually lose my rhythm in either my voice or guitar. It’s insane to hear you do it so effortlessly. Great job! Amazing song choice
It's really hard when covering other artists' work but in my experience it comes much more naturally when you write your own music (especially if the guitar came first in the writing process.) You can play and kinda hum over the chords in whatever way feels easy and natural, then start to add words as you build more comfort. If done right, very quickly the guitar fades into the background of your mind and you don't even really think about it much until vocal breaks
