  • Dripping in magnesium, carbon fibre and titanium, and boasting the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production bike, the 200bhp, 155kg 1199 Superleggera is the most exclusive Ducati ever built.
    Only 500 will be made and they're all sold already, but we managed to grab one to ride at Mugello, the bike's spiritual home.

    Truly a masterpiece one of the greatest bikes ever made, I think only a desmosedici can vow ownership as another one of Ducati's finest bikes built. Well done Ducati for building something very special.

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 10 лет назад

      ive ridden both (1199 and 899) and for the streets not only is the 899 less expensive, but it is also quite a LOT better...i tested one after the other, and as similar as those bikes seems to be (on paper), on the real world its like two completely different bikes, the 899 is IMO much, MUCH better...still my taste goes a bit more to the RSV4 from Aprilia..i just cant get enough of that V4...(waiting for Honds RCV1000!)

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 10 лет назад +5

      Nilsfried
      many things..first, the engine is a lot more "linear"..the 1199 has a power "choke" in the mid-range that the 899 doesnt have...the gearing onthe 899 is quite a bit shorter then the 1199, that means you can play around with the gearbox on a twisty road, opposed to the 1199 that is soooo long-geared tha on the twisties you are basically riding first o second gear all the time and having to jump on the brakes because you are going WAY too fast...the chassis have a more "friendly" geometry to it, its easier to deal with the bike, it feels less "moody" then the 1199...the double-arm, shorter swing-arm also contributes for a more "lively" handling...the bike is because of all that summed up together a lot more comfortable and easier to enjoy...even little things like the seat are better..the seat on the 899 is quite a bit more "stuffed" and comfy compared to the 1199...which contributes to more fun for a longer time...and i didnt even start talking about the for-the-streets-better suspension setting, engine management, friendly brakes, less fuel consumption etc etc....the only down side of the 899 in my opinion, is that ducati didnt make it any quieter...so yeah, its just as loud as the 1199...which is something many people love, but i personally dont..

    A lot of these comments come from people who have never owned a Ducati. I have had 2, and no shit whatsoever. 35000km and 47000km. I then had s Hayabusas, and now a ZX14. The Ducati, fro a handling point of view, is in a class of it's own. Love to own another, for the occasional ride, as they are not comfortable, reason for my owning Hyabusas and Zx14. Jap bikes are great, but a Ducati is special.

    Odd that it comes with Akky cans. Termi have been Ducati's partner for a long time (they're the only option in the official Ducati parts catalogue) that's what I have fitted to my 1199S. Strange that they would switch for one version of the 1199.

  • @CycleCruza
    @CycleCruza 9 лет назад +13

    It is in my opinion Ducatis are overrated and overpriced, I'd much rather have a japanese budget superbike, just as much fun at a fraction of the cost of this $65,000 Superleggera. This Superleggera is a collector bike for the one-percenters to put on display in their mansion for eye candy and never actually be ridden. Japanese bikes are made to be ridden hard and still be reliable.

    Someone commented about SBK approval which I don't believe will happen b/c they didn't make enough and the bike is too light so it will not be raced in superbike. And not to knock the bike b/c it is impressive but I think if u crashed it at 20mph it would be totalled which is prob also why it will not be on superbike. Great bike but just dont ever drop it lol I don't think the magnesium and carbon fiber would hold up in even a very minor crash.

    bang for buck "Panigale" power to weight go Leggera is another.Not a street bike no turn signals/mirrors. I like it but not the "Cal Trans" orange paint job. It should have been colored red-green-white or just red. ??? I still like my Panigale after 2 years of riding it.

    Is this the most expensive bike ever produced for the public?

      Not even close. The Desmosedici was more expensive when it was released. The Vyrus bikes are more expensive. There are a lot of more expensive bikes out there.
