    Ozymandis is an amazing portrait of a man who had it all and lost it all, and is tortured by the present he crafted. Once the most powerful person in the world, he was demoted to 2nd by Jon. Then he falls into obscurity.

    • @Mr.Nobody_97
      @Mr.Nobody_97 5 месяцев назад +2

      I disagree partly with this. Ozy always had the perfect life anyone would dream of, and he created this himself with no help before the events of the attack of New York. It was only when he created peace in the world before Armageddon started, he fell into obscurity because nobody cared anymore.
      Whilst the world was all sunshine and rainbows, only a handful of people knew the truth about the peace he created, and it ate him up inside because no one would know his greatest accomplishment. His biggest weakness was his legacy and pride, because he had everything, even after being sent to Europa’s paradise and lived like a king, only to get bored because it isn’t the same thing as earth.
      None of his problems would have come back to haunt him had he lived his life, but he would constantly pick at this idea with the future president Redford by confessing his crimes with him in video, could have stayed in Europa, but chose not to simply because his legacy was far greater importance

    This show was so damn good. I understand Damon Lindelof only wanted to do one season of the story, but I really wish there was more. It’s a great story though

    • @romilrh
      @romilrh 2 года назад +16

      Lindelof gave a very well-said reason for doing one season. He said that Watchmen was one of the great pieces of art created by humanity, and he had the honor of carving out a little piece of it. He had his time, but now he wants to let somebody else take a crack at it down the line, because that would be more interesting than anything else he has left to say.

    • @BigMac8000

      If he truly truly truly cared that much... he wouldn't have let his masterpiece be wrestled away from him. It would've been made in a vault, in a vacuum, never to be touched.
      I know the history of contract disputes with Alan Moore and admittedly, they were extremely tricky in screwing him out of Watchmen. Uniquely tricky. I almost respect the evil slipperiness of it. Almost. The irony of it being a timeless classic that keeps it out of his hands - the brutal savage irony of that can't be lost on the man. It's downright poetic evil.
      But given that the entire story is a treatise on evil, human nature, and their inability to be separated... he knew what could happen. Alan Moore can say what he wants, but he's cursed to be a smart capable man...
      The bastardization of his script can, should, and would always have happened. If they had to make another story and rename all the characters, these things would come up inevitably. The fact they get to use his characters and names is irrelevant to the idea's that would challenge his original story. Even his own characters were admittedly reskinned versions of DC characters, Question, Batman and so on.
      He's an angry man, with every right. We should all be angry.
      But I'm sure at night sometimes he does whatever his equivalent of drinking his scotch is, and laughs, because 150 people did their absolute best to create a rat's maze as good as his.
      If you let yourself mentally separate the work, it's utterly meaningless to compare them inanely.
      I enjoyed them both - and there's a lot hiding in the show that's well executed. If everyone dropped the judgment, and just looked at the truth... there's far worse stories out there. There's plenty of decent narrative and crazy ideas to enjoy here, they clearly worked hard on the series to do their best. Some excellent scenes. Same with the watchmen movie - it's so oddly "off" it's fascinating, yet Rorshach's casting was excellent, Dr. Manhattan's scenes land... who cares what failed. That's art.
      I doubt these concepts aren't lost on Moore. Sure, he's probably angry, sure, he would've gone another way, sure he probably cares - but he didn't have the deathgrip he thought he did on his work.
      It's very much like his own characters.
      There must be some part of him that looks at it all and laughs a bit - and I'm sure he sees some merit hiding in these attempts, all of them, and though he has reason to never admit it... who wouldn't at least feel flattered that they tried so damn hard to continue your work?
      Must inflate the ego just a bit, even if they go in another direction.
      Nobody could ever continue someone else's work without feeling a little like they're betraying it.
      I watched the whole thing and I'll say though... they were trying... and they did much the same. Rorshach was based on the Question, and while Rorshach exists, his stand-in character is an excellent homage on the show. Just look at his mask.
      Those two would drink together from a dirty cup at a crime scene. I enjoyed it, really did, once I let go of the elitism about artistic integrity.
      This is a dirty world and a dirty narrative, the dirty treatment of its legal rights should be enjoyed as intellectually as the stories themselves...
      To put it another way...
      This is one of those stories that when they go astray, it's just as fascinating. The movie was the same way - watching them tweak the dials, regardless of the outcome... interesting to watch them fail there too. Some films, when they were made sincerely, are interesting because of HOW they fail. There's a great case for both here.

      Within the show, John falls in love with a black woman. In order to fully experience life with her, he opts to assume a human form. They choose from three dead men in a morgue (for context, she's a cop), all of which have no family to mourn them. John allows for his lover to pick which man would make her feel the most comfortable, and so she chooses a black man.
