I have the later SMC version and of course this is radioactive, but does not concern me, as I don't hold it to my eyes or sleep with it. I put mine outside for a few days to clear the yellowing and it worked a treat. Very sharp lens and another lockdown bargain at £59.
I would say the Sony Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 is sharper, but certainly comparable to the Sony 50mm f1.4.

I agree with your findings as well Tony. The Taks are nice and the radioactivity is overblown hype but the quality for a lens made when I was in Primary School is pretty decent. The Planar is sharper and more of my own "go-to" than the Takumar. I only have the 55mm 1.8 Sony-Zeiss and that is a really nice "older" lens as well...one of my very few AF lenses in the collection. Thanks for adding to the conversation. Cheers!

Takumar is lovely but I like Tomioka even better.

Hi SN84! I haven't owned any Tomiokas (branded lenses) so I cannot compare but I have heard positive things about that manufacturer! I do have a 50mm f2 Yashica that was made at the Tomioka factory as well as an Auto Chinon and Mamiya-Sekor made by them. Anyhow, thanks for sharing! Cheers, Scott
