I like to watch people in a higher grade then myself. Also I have started filming me and my friend playing at MSAC and it good to see yourself playing to fine tune the skills and pick out small faults. Keep playing and kick ass!!!
@ravenrose89 If the ball is short so that it would bounce twice on the table then you cannot use the topspin. This is because (as you mention) you cannot start your bat below the table and still make the correct stroke. Your options then are to push the ball back or to flick the ball. We have videos covering both of these strokes on our website. Take a look at them and see if they help you out for the short backspin balls.
@029Vicky If your friends push the ball back short, then you have a couple of options. If they are choppers and don't attack very much you could push the ball back long and then it would be hard for them to keep the ball short so you should be able to then attack. Or you could also push the ball short and wait for them to push the ball back long. The advantage of this is that you draw them in close to the table before you make a strong attack. This makes it difficult for them to recover.
@broro100 The choice of rubbers is a personal one. If you like the Hurricane 3 neo better then you should definitely use it. Picking something you are comfortable with is important because then it allows you to concentrate on your technique. If you are always worried about your rubber, your mind thinks that is the problem. So based on what you have told me I would switch back to ease your mind. Again, it is a personal choice that you should make.
@keshikalunch You can definitely improve using a robot. However I think that you can do more if you have someone who can give you mulit-ball. I think that multi-ball gives you an experience closer to what you will get in a game. Multi-ball is where a coach (or training partner) has a bucket of balls and hits them to you one after the other. As the person is hitting them with a Table Tennis bat it is more match like and they can vary things at any stage.
there is nothing more satisfying then getting a ball with huge backspin and then shooting the ball diagonally with tremendous topspin sidespin to the outer side :) sidespin + topspin = the best
@Detherocable Then it's a matter of brushing the ball a bit more to get more topspin. You can also play your shot with a little more forward momentum and a slightly less vertical action.
Thanks for your question. The main thing to take from this lesson is the correct stroke. Remember to keep things simple. The lower the ball and the more backspin on it, the more you will need to lift the ball with a vertical stroke. The camera is quite high which makes the push look a bit higher than it really is. If you look at the shots from side on and behind the ball the push looks lower.
There are a number of ways to do this. If you are in trouble in the rally you might want to use a lob or a chop to stay in the rally. Take a look on our website and you'll see these videos plus more.
Yes, the sidespin will cause the ball to shoot of to the side, so you need to adjust the angle of your bat to counter this. Take a look on our website for more Table Tennis tips.
Backspin topspin actually designed for left-handed. I have quick recovery using it. I use it as a low smash backhand topspin against my opponents who use backspin to make sure that he/she hit the ball flying to my side, hit my side of the table, and let it be high enough to end it will my version of smash backhand leftspin (not returned hit).
@andrewizcoolio I don't think there is a best. It is a personal choice and everyone will have their own favourite. There are so many blades available that are all good quality. Like I said, I'm now using the PingSkills Touch but I used to use the Butterfly Primorac OFF- which I really liked.
@andrewizcoolio We had the blades made up. The ITTF does not have a list of authorised blades. The main requirement is that they are 85% wood which the PingSkills Touch is and it is a legal blade to use.
@pingskills Awesome! I think backhand flick would be the corect response in this case. It looks easy but man, its really hard to get the right feel. Thank you for answering my question. I will definitely recommend your site to my friends.
@vmstilling You need to ensure that you can lift the backspin ball. The more backspin the ball has on it the more vertical your stroke will need to be.
Thanks Alois and team... Internet is a boon and u both are sublimely blessed by God to get these skills mastered. Learnt a lot from videos and have been practising them slowly one at a time. Wish me luck !! I am getting better and better one step a time...I am so much inspired by looking at your tutorial videos. Thanks Once again :) !! By the way one personal query to Alois: U sound OZ but do not look like one. Are you Indian or Asian by Origin? You very much look like South Indian :)
Returning a backspin with backspin is referred to as a push which is more of a defensive stroke. Here we are demonstrating how to attack a backspin ball.
it really depends on the player. If you are learning the back hand loop for the first time you might just want to go down like half a foot, then after you learn that, bring the paddle down to a foot. After you have mastered the basic stroke then you can bring the paddle as far down as you want, as long as it's comfortable for you. for the most part though most people bring the paddle down about a foot because a lot of spin/speed is generated at that distance.
I agree, the more speed and spin you want lower your bat and you will get a stronger stroke. But be careful this does take longer to do and not wise in a fast pasted match or if you enemy (thats what I call them haha) is close to the table. Better used if they are further away from the table. Once you get a good feeling for the stroke then you can do it really fast then do it whenever you feel like it.
awesome video helped me with my shot but not enough as my friends are all choppers and so the ball is always short so i dont get much practice but once i hit it feels graet
A very clear demonstration of the technique. I have one question though: The backspin balls demonstrated in th video are considered long, so it is possible to have the starting postion below the table. However, if the backspin ball is relatively short, is it still possible to use this technique? I keep hitting the net...
@keshikalunch OK. Then it sounds like a robot might be a good option for you. If you go to the Ask the Coach section and search for robot, you might find some useful information. Good luck.
@pingskills I do have a question about the short shorts though. That is something I've never accepted. I don't believe shorter shorts makes you run faster.
@broro100 Hurricanes in my experience are very inconsistent Some you can get are amazing and some are just terrible But if its your prefernce i would buy a few sheets --they are only cheap
@ravenrose89 Practice getting your racket speed up. When you can generate the correct speed you'll have no problem with the backhand flick shown in the Ping Skills video.
tho this video is about technique..only try to worry about the concept of how to implement topspin. (let the ball come to the paddle and just have the paddle angled and lift with a short and fast burst burst of energy) -angle depends on the hight of the ball.
Thanks for your reply. Problem is that i am 26 year old working professinal in India. I went to a coach on weekends but it is too crowded he can give on 15 mins to each individual. I do not have anyone to practice multiball with :(. When i play in office, i get a feeling that i have improved my game but i lack conistency. I beleive practicing longer rallies can improve my game. That is why i am looking for a robo.
I've always had trouble with the backhand loop against push, and I've never understood why. My question is this: When playing the BH loop against push, do we need to be slightly farther from the table than when we play the FH loop against push? My thinking is that the BH loop is struck more in front of the body and the FH loop is struck more off to the side, so we have more time to play the FH loop. Therefore I might need to be slightly farther back than my instincts are telling me in BH loop?
i'm confused. recently a 2300 level USATT certified coach recommended a stroke like this vs backspin. at the same time, i watched an 1800 level player use the more compact/forward over the table mechanics to BH loop against underspin. is the former technique "safer" (consistency wise) and the latter technique "more dangerous" (because it's off the bounce?
+Andy Nguyen-Huynh It sounds like you need to get more topspin on the ball. The topspin will drag the ball down so it doesn't go out. It will also make it harder for your opponent to smash because the topspin will react off their bat. To get more topspin you need a brushing contact. Watch the video again and notice the contact on the ball. Let me know if this helps.
+Andy Nguyen-Huynh You really need to brush the ball. Imagine an insect sitting on the edge of the ball and that you have to knock the insect off without touching the ball very much. That is what you need to do to brush the ball. Does that help?
i used a lot of wrist in this stroke and still got lots of balls caught in the net, i feel uncomfortable having a very vertical stroke, will changing my bh rubber into a rubber tht has higher throw help? im currently using bryce hard and thinking of changing to hurricane 3
Ok, I have a question; I noticed that although the stroke works just fine i.e. the back hand topspin off backspin, the extension of the arm is (to my eye - and I'm no expert you would whoop me every time) is - well, huge, above head height. Now a simple block using the pace you generate would surely arrive back with you before you could recover your position? Any thoughts? Cheers.
Isn't his topspin to long, his bat(idk how you guys call it) has to end on eye/eyebrow level, but his bat goes all the way away from his body, so I guess he won't be able to receive the next ball?(because he is not ready yet).
and 1 more thing,i thought u have 2 return a backspin with another backspin...if there's a video u guys have about which kind of spin u have 2 return the 1 received, can u give me the name ?
when ever i try this it goes into net (i guess i am not fast enough or moving my racket toward table rather than toward upside), not sure why. i usually return the back spin with more heavier back spin and let my opponent to start top spin attack
max factor Yeah the most common cause is not playing the stroke vertical enough. You also need to move the bat through fast to get a good brushing action on the ball and generate the topspin. It really is worth persisting and trying to learn this stroke.
hey, i've got an question: friend of mine got long pimples on his backhand & we're practicing quite often to topspin his pimples and when i topspin it with my backhand the pressure is gone ? where's the prob? i really have a good backhand and try to "shoot" it back, his spin is no prob at all, but the speed is definately gone... ? can anybody maybe help me ?
Hi Kewalshah Kewal, Then you have the option of flicking the ball or pushing the ball. We have videos on both these strokes on our website under lessons -> Strokes & Techniques.
I like to watch people in a higher grade then myself. Also I have started filming me and my friend playing at MSAC and it good to see yourself playing to fine tune the skills and pick out small faults. Keep playing and kick ass!!!

this goes for all your videos you have helped me so alot. now i play with more confidence and know wat im doing
I'm glad the video helped you. Good luck with your Table Tennis.
very nice! the harder backhand with the shoulder turn looks pretty, i bet thats won him a few points!
Thanks for your question. The main thing to take from this lesson is the correct stroke. Remember to keep things simple. im 12 and these video's are helping me so much
i learned the pelduim service in an day
I'm teaching my 10 year old and these videos are great. thanks
Great. Keep working at it and let me know how you go. We also have a new video on the backhand topspin which you can see on our website.
There are a number of ways to do this. If you are in trouble in the rally you might want to use a lob or a chop to stay in the rally. Take a look on our website and you'll see these videos plus more.

@MultiGangstershit No the penhold backhand is quite different. If you look on our channel we do have a lesson on the penhold grip.
@vmstilling You need to ensure that you can lift the backspin ball. The more backspin the ball has on it the more vertical your stroke will need to be.
I think this is backhand sidespin. But this is the best instruction for backhand topspin. From Indonesia.. thanks
Starting to practise this and the topspin now. Hopefuly I will be able to execute it decently
:D
Thanks Alois and team... Internet is a boon and u both are sublimely blessed by God to get these skills mastered.

nice video, thanks i really needed the help for my backhand.

i can't believe all the naysayers. jeff is solid and his explanation is great.
@andrewizcoolio great! That is a lot of training. I'm using a PingSkills Touch blade with Xiom Vega Pro at the moment. What equipment do you use?
@kizaman Well Kreanga certainly does have a great backhand, no arguments there.
@SiroMiss What is the biggest problem you are facing? Try asking a question on our website and we'll see if we can help you out.
There's definitely some backspin on the ball, although it is not extremely heavy backspin.
awesome video helped me with my shot but not enough as my friends are all choppers and so the ball is always short so i dont get much practice but once i hit it feels graet
@broro100 Personally I think it is better to focus on your technique rather than changing rubber.
Excellent video!!
ha i love these i got pretty good at this from another video and its real unexpected when people play me...(only been playin for a month)
A very clear demonstration of the technique. I have one question though: The backspin balls demonstrated in th video are considered long, so it is possible to have the starting postion below the table. @InyM2 thanks.
@pingskills well it's just tht i used hurricane 3 neo before changing to bryce hard and i used to have less problems dealing with this stroke
@keshikalunch OK. Then it sounds like a robot might be a good option for you. If you go to the Ask the Coach section and search for robot, you might find some useful information. Good luck.
Thanks!
@pingskills Excellent question!
Yeah, thanks a lot, this videos are really helpful, and awesome.
@drthmstrbtr same here...that's y i started playin it and learned myself well by observing others...and made me a college champion :)
@poptagcajb Does this mean you are better at Ping Pong than you are at tennis?
@pingskills I do have a question about the short shorts though. That is something I've never accepted. I don't believe shorter shorts makes you run faster.
This helped a lot but I just have one question! Where should I contact the ball when backhand looping against backspin?
I must hold the racquet in the hand with top the spin loosely or correctly firmly
do you use RPB? if you do, you can use it similar to the technique in the video, bringing your stroke high.
@broro100 Hurricanes in my experience are very inconsistent
Some you can get are amazing and some are just terrible
But if its your prefernce i would buy a few sheets --they are only cheap
great video thank you
You're welcome.
@ramazone100 Thanks!
@ravenrose89 Practice getting your racket speed up. When you can generate the correct speed you'll have no problem with the backhand flick shown in the Ping Skills video.
with the ball bouncing that high, those are EASY to topspin; even w/o high level technique!
tho this video is about technique..only try to worry about the concept of how to implement topspin.
(let the ball come to the paddle and just have the paddle angled and lift with a short and fast burst burst of energy)
-angle depends on the hight of the ball.
really it helped me a lot

realy nice and helpfull videos but if we can see when u are serving and his back hand spin same time then it can be more helpfull.
Hey PingSkills, everytime I do this, I always hit it really high so the opponent can smash, or out.

what should i do if i get a backspin ball that skims lower than yours? i often lift it too much.
In the US, players are ranked because they don't have real leagues. So #1 USATT player is currently the best US-player.
wat about side spins,i believe u HAVE 2 spin it the other way u recieve it ?
das liegt ganz einfach daran an welcher stelle du den Ball triffst...

me encanta me enseñan bastante gracias =)
More backhand videos, please.;)
@CTJgumby45243 I think you'll find it is one of the most popular sports in the World.
thank you so mach
@AKESTONJjj Thanks for the info! :)
thank you

and 1 more thing,i thought u have 2 return a backspin with another backspin...if there's a video u guys have about which kind of spin u have 2 return the 1 received, can u give me the name ?

Thanks a lot , learnt alot from your channel
this is topspin against backspin you have to lift it more if you go forward the ball will go into the net
hey, i've got an question:
friend of mine got long pimples on his backhand & we're practicing quite often to topspin his pimples and when i topspin it with my backhand the pressure is gone ?
where's the prob?
i really have a good backhand and try to "shoot" it back, his spin is no prob at all, but the speed is definately gone... ?
can anybody maybe help me ?
@pingskills hehe what i meant was backhand instead i said backspin silly me.
@drthmstrbtr yes it is :)
If second bounce is on the table then what should we do??
Hi Kewalshah Kewal,
Then you have the option of flicking the ball or pushing the ball. We have videos on both these strokes on our website under lessons -> Strokes & Techniques.
How to do topspin or the sidespin
do you have a video ohow to keep alive in a rally??
there aren't really rules for this you know. you just start learning the basic thing and then add your own touch to it! ;-)
good
I Like IT!!!!!
