Watching Shane play "there goes my hero" gives me chills to see the amount of passion and emotion he did it with, you can watch the angst, sadness, and despair just ooze out of him as if releasing it all and giving him a sense of closure.

I never dived into Foo Fighter's discography and I feel bad for this, but Dave is a man who, and I don't know why, we almost all instinctively respect and admire. Seems to me it's well deserved

I'm with you, I'm a casual fan of foo fighters I only really like a few select songs. If there on I won't skip them but I don't really look for them. Dave to me just seems like an all round good dude like how we see Keanu. Famous yeah, but they ain't dicks about it. Least that's what it's like for me.

At 40 years old, Everlong is pretty much my Stairway to Heaven. I love it for a good stretch, then tire of it for a short bit, then love it again. Rinse, wash, repeat. The Foo Fighters are great. Thanks for this video Finn.

Probably one of the most consistent bands ever. Never released a bad album. They might not have been too groundbreaking or anything, but can't deny their charisma and musicianship. I love the foos
Agreed, but I think when bands of this caliber start releasing an album every year, plus over saturated radio play…it kind of seems stale. But I still like them as a band. I’m not a super fan or my first choice…but it’s weird. Most that I know are grew up on the 2000s version and we’re starting high school, or older Nirvana fans that are in their 50s. I was a teenager when the debut came out, and up to 2002 I listen to them. After that they put out some cool stuff. But if I had a choice e to see Foo Fighters or QOTSA…I pick QOTSA as I find it more my taste and interesting
They didn’t reinvent the wheel, but they’ve got a good wheel nonetheless
FF release an album like every 2-5 years at best. They took a long hiatus from In your Honor, to Echoes Silence Patience and Grace; and again for Wasting Light. Only exceptions may be their side band projects (Black Widow, Dee Gees)@@mattg082
I think something note worthy is that when Pat decided to re-join the Foos and despite Chris' fear of getting fired as a result, Dave just increased the roster rather than axing Chris.
When he became the drummer, he lost the guitarist.

Nirvana and Foo Fighters were my gateway into punk rock/hardcore because, as I saw it, "If these guys were great, what were their favorite bands like?"
So I would read every interview and every band they mentioned that I didn't know I found and listened to.
It also breaks my heart that two of my favorite bands have such hardships attached to them.
Taylor always seemed like that cool smiley surfer/hippie guy who was fun to hang around with even if you weren't a surfer or hippie.
I had always liked the Foo Fighters, but they were never at the top of my list. I went to Voodoo Fest in New Orleans one year where they were headlining. They absolutely blew me away. Taylor sang the cover of Under Pressure that they were known for, and had the drummer for Queen's son come out on stage and play with them. That will forever be one of my favorite live music moments. RIP.
Their song “Let it Die” will always be one of my top favorite songs of all time
That last quote really says it all. Dave is an incredibly talented musician and obviously works hard on his music. Also seems like a really great guy, watch the interview with his mum, it is adorable.
If we needed to send an ambassador of music to represent planet earth, Dave Grohl would be my pick. While I generally listen to more heavier rock these days, Foo Fighters will always have a special place in my heart. I vividly remember 10 year old me walking to the record store and buying my very first album "There is nothing left to lose" in 99'. Played that record front to back a million times and it shaped my musical taste there on from classic rock to metal core.
I remember getting their first album (on cassette) the week it came out and listening to it on my Walkman in my mum's car - that's the memory I have of that time. It's a bit of a trip now all these years later that my 12yo son asks for the Foo Fighters in my car.
I’m a massive, massive Nirvana and grunge fan. I’ve never connected with Foo Fighters, but always stay connected to Dave.
Not only is Dave a consummate musician, he’s one hell of a caring human! Been a fan since the 90’s and always will be!
The Foos are my favorite band. Their music has always connected with me and made me feel good spiritually, especially their third album. Dave is my biggest influence to be a musician - the dude can do everything really well. What I admire the most about him is his resilience and his passion. You see it when he plays live and you hear it in his recordings. Thanks for this video Finn, I always love hearing your take 🤘
The thing about Dave is that .. if you go to a Foo Fighter’s show … it feels like one of you’re close friends left to go on stage and perform for everyone… he’s probably the Nicest person in Rock N Roll … he’s know as the “Nicest Person in Rock N Roll” ❤
The greatest DAD ROCK band to ever exist. I have seen FOOS 4x and they have never disappointed even the show where Dave's voice was shot, it was still an incredible show. When I first saw them in 95 and it was the Dave Grohl band, the hall full of kids in Nirvana T shirts... The next time I saw them in 2000 they had a new drummer in Taylor Hawkins and were opening for RHCP. At that show it became clear this was no longer the Dave Grohl band...the FOO FIGHTERS had truly arrived with Taylor.
I'd really love to see one of these on Queens of the Stoneage!

I just listened to Dave's audiobook he narrates and it's a great insight to everything you covered, but I feel like he did leave a little out of the story.
I was lucky enough to see him play with Scream, Wool, Nirvana, as well as the Foo Fighters multiple times. I think his appeal is that he comes across as a real down to earth guy and puts all his emotions, good or bad, out there in his songs. Which is what makes them resonate with so many people. I hope I get to see him perform 100 more times.

I picked up the FF debut at random in a music shop as a kid in the 90s, fell in love and immediately got TC&TS right after. Their first 3 albums are incredible and the rest are still really good but that debut is sometime else. Dave’s a genius and seems like the coolest dude.
Todd in the Shadows said it best: Taylor was a superstar drummer in a band that already had a superstar drummer. I saw FF at ACL and they were amazing. I am glad I got to see them with Taylor though and I'll always miss that beautiful relationship between him and Dave
Hell of a video from you Finn. You covered it so well. I’ve been following the Foo’s closely for a bit now, and devoured Dave’s book when it came out. His mom also wrote an incredible book called Cradle to Stage about musicians and their moms which then became a short series that was also amazing. Dave Grohl has been through a lot in his professional/personal life but somehow finds the fortitude to keep going despite the heartbreak he’s had to endure. Between that and what he’s done in the music world, he’s an incredible human who has talent for days. Watching the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert was truly amazing. I don’t think there’s ever been a concert like it and there probably won’t be again. It really goes to show how connected the Foos are/were to the music world and pop culture. I saw the foo fighters at the Ogden theater in Denver in August 1995 when I was 16. First thing I did with my driver's license. OMG it was so awesome being a 135 pound 16 yr old kid.
Saw them on a tour when they played just acoustic songs, and saw them on a tour when dave had a broken leg. They're amazing and iconic.

With Foo Fighters being my favourite band for the last 17 years I gotta say you did a great job with this one man. Loved that you covered some of the side projects. I also really liked The DeeGees. I thought it might be worth mentioning in the video how massive Foo’s are worldwide. They’ve got 6 number 1 albums here in the UK and have been huge here since their Hyde Park show in 2006. Taylor was a huge shock and I was lucky enough to go to the tribute show at Wembley and it was absolutely incredible and the most emotional show I’ve ever been to

I discovered the band when I played Everlong on Guitar Hero back in like 2008. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since. They have never made a bad album. Even though Dave Grohl doesn't like One By One, I actually like it a lot.

I remember my first concert was a Nine-inch Nails show in 1991 when I was 12 years old, It was the first time I heard a Nirvana song and thinking back, what you said about Kurt and nirvana being more than a band it was a movement a change in culture that hadn't been seen in over a decade and hasn't been seen since. It was more than just alternative music, it was rap too I am Glad in Connecticut where i grew up a town over is the college campus called Westconn and they had a radio station called 91.7 WXCI It was a great time in college radio with all these bands and music coming out in the early to mid 90';s was a change that I'm glad I experienced as a teen lol
I was a big Nirvana fan back in the day and just naturally followed onto Foo Fighters afterwards. I think For Your Honour was when I fell off the bandwagon- my taste in music had just kind of shifted, moved on. I see they are touring with Nova Twins & that's cool.
Same here, saw them in 96 at a small show. Then another 97 festival opening at a 1pm slot. I listen to them in the 90s. But around 2003 or so I just wasn’t into it. I go see them live on a festival show, or a theater show for sure. But probably wouldn’t bust out $250 for an arena. I like the first few albums, but taste change or maybe just didn’t relate anymore by the time I was 22 or so. They are pretty much classic rock now, and that’s ok. The RHCP were big, but after 2002 I didn’t like the rest of the albums going forward. But both can sell out arenas. I think we all out grow some bands as they keep putting stuff out. Because some of the bands I like the mist honestly had a 4 year burst of great music. Or would wait and put out an album every few years.I feel maybe it’s the album a year, over saturated radio stuff that makes it maybe lose touch I dunno.

The Foo Fighters are the band that got me really in love with music (even though it was RHCP that initially started me off) and a lot of that has to do with everything you said: great songs, brilliant live shows and a frontman that was both a showman and someone you look up and say 'I wanna be like that guy'.
They really have been with me my whole adult life and while I don't listen to them half as much as I used to (thats due to discovering new music, a fair bit because of DG) they will always be 'my' band. I've even got a Foos tattoo on the back of my neck, inspired by the TNLTL album cover.
They put on fantasic live shows, someone else in the comments mentioned the London, Hyde Park show in 2006, I was there too, WHAT.A.SHOW.
Taylor dying was a gut-wrenching moment for me, and it was still hard to believe at times. Buy himhe'd want the band to continue. I know it, and Josh is a fantasic drummer.
So, long live T Hawk and long live the Foos ❤.

Despite them now being one of the vey biggest rock bands on the planet, and our generations dad rock group, I still have a very personal, tender relationship to them. They were one of musical safe places when I was growing up and I still root for everything Dave engages in. Great video as always!

Dave is a fantastic songwriter and musician but Mozart was on a different level. GENIOUS level. The man started composing as a kid. 100+ symphonies written. What made you compare Dave and Mozart anyway?
@dominikaksiazek7177 he started young, not too sure about his training in music but I think alot was self taught, just always seems to have a vision, creates alot but also creates alot of things that people generally like and are remembered I think many many years from now if teaching is still similar he will be studied by future students

Saw them live at the Metro in Chicago during their first tour and I remember me and my friends talking about how he was struggling to sing at certain points! And as time went on, he just got better and better! Never got to see Nirvana live unfortunately but at least got to see the Foo's in their infancy!✌️

I’m related to Chris Shifflett through my moms side. Never met him though but always knew that growing up.
Dave was one of my inspired musician in my life after Kurt Cobain. It doesn't matter how Dave was overcome tragedies. Lost Taylor was a big heartbreak for me. And I was impressed bcoz his son can play drums like Taylor. Hats off to Master Dave and the rest of Foo Fighters. Cheers ❤
Its insane how the two most prolific Rock song writters of the last 30 years were both in Nirvana. Wish Dave and Kurt would have had a chance to work on more songs together. Scentless Apprentice is a great example.

Well done vid! While I only moderately enjoy Foo Fighters, they really are an amazing band, deserving tons of respect. Dave Grohl seems like a hugely likeable, cool, down-to-earth guy that happens to be immensely talented. Wish we had more of that in rock.

Foo Fighters are my favorite band of all time and it’s not even close. Every single song they have besides a few on ST album, a few on One By One album and The Sky is a Neighborhood are 10/10. They are the most consistent band of all time. Lyrically I think Dave is underrated I actually think that he is a master lyric writer with emotionally lyrics and funny lyrics. Every one in this band is one of the best players at there instrument in history. Dave has a stunning voice and to me there up there with the Beatles, Rolling Stones etc that’s how good they. 28 years in to there career they made one of there best albums if not there best album. 10/10 band easily

Man, I used to Love this band back in high school. The first album was decent, but The Colour and the Shape is one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s flawless imo. They lost me with the follow up album though. I was never a fan of “Learn to Fly” and I didn’t really hear any real standout tracks from the rest of the album. So that was that for me and Foo Fighters.
I was similar. Only dig a couple off the first album. Really enjoyed the Colour and the Shape, didn't really get into There is Nothing Left to Lose, but for me, In Your Honor got me back and to this day "The Best Of You" is one of my favorite songs.

I saw them in 1996 or so, they really were playing small venues. I saw a 50 person all ages show at 13. They could have easily gone away with the rest of the 90s bands. I saw them again in 97 opening a festival. Fiona Apple was billed way higher than them. Every band on that festival washed up…but the opener with only maybes 12 songs…decades later became the biggest rock act. I grew interest a little due to Pat being in the band as a Germs fan. But kind of checked out after 2002 or so. But it really is crazy how Dave got to experience it twice. That is very rare to happen to any band, let alone one person.
But as I remember it wasn’t until 2005 so, you kind of knew…this band can go the long haul. They had to work over a decade to really get back to where Nirvana was.
The bandmates are a good call, and shows the authenticity matters to Dave. But going forward I would see them live. The fact Dave can play drums as good as guitar here, really doesn’t slow them down recording wise. The only way I see them stopping is if Dave stops. As far as new material, nothing has really peaked my interest with them in a long time. But as a live act today, 100% a must see regardless. They really don’t even need to write new stuff, given how deep the back catalog is. They are almost classic rock at this point, and as big as any Kiss, Stones or other act as far as pulling in live shows.

Me too. I lived in Cleveland, Ohio in 1988-89 and ran in the same circles as Trent Rezner. I moved back to Michigan and a few years later Trent was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Go figure.

I remember when i heard the news of Taylor Hawkins. I was lying in my bed waking up and checked in my phone as usual. Suddenly i read that Taylor Hawkins died. I said : Noooooo!!! Then i needed to pick up my parents from the train station and we went straight to my football club (soccer club) and i was the entire ride just blown away from that news. I did not know how to act, how to react, and then we came at my club, we walked to the cafetaria and there i just could not hold it anymore and started crying my eyes out.😭😭

5:04 Don’t get me wrong FF music is great but Dave’s vocals are just absolutely amazing you can tell the vocals were layered but never would have thought 4 tracks that’s amazing in itself how perfect they were done
It is crazy to me thinking about what the world would be like if Kurt was still here. Part of me would like to think Nirvana would have done great things next but it is equally possible that they would have slumped into obscurity. In either of those cases, I think we'd be deprived from the greatness that is the Foo Fighters.
