Some have the space/money/time to get and fiddle with original hardware, whether it be arcades or whatever. Others prefer just to be able to play and most of the time you can’t tell a difference as an average person playing it.

    I’m a fan, I like having a digital streamlined library I can just jump into on certain days. Also I like it if I don’t want to wear out my physical games! I also get tired of trying to keep original hardware working, ultimately these devices will fail and I’m only getting older and don’t want to have to go through the hassle of getting something recapped, messing with soldering…I guess for me the bottom line is, we are all getting older….time is short and for me seems to be going fast, game how you wanna game!!! Enjoy a game no matter how, and play as much as you can!

    In my opinion, I don't see a problem with either way you want to do it, or both for that matter. Emulation though, is the only way a lot of people, if not most, can experience games these days because the games/consoles are just simply unavailable or way too expensive to purchase. I love emulation, and I think it has a very important role. But I do get the desire to collect physical media and original hardware. However, I'm good with emulating the older stuff... I'm a completionist and a perfectionist, so that can open an endless can of worms for me lol. Not sure if you've commented yet on the NewWaveToys & GRS teaser yet, but I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that. I know you were certain that the new product line was going to be a 3/4 scale cabinet... and then a full scale cabinet. But as it seems to turn out... it's going to be full scale, but an arcade stick of some sort instead.

    • @thetechbuzz
      @thetechbuzz  5 месяцев назад

      @@thetechbuzz lol we will see. But I do remember you saying you were predicting a 3/4 scale at the very beginning (to compete with A1up) up until Shilo publicly started saying how much he doesn't like that scale in interviews... then the goal post moved to the full scale prediction. Sorry man, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Aside from some people really wanting it to happen... it just doesn't make much sense for them logistically since they aren't a home arcade business, they are a 1/6 scale collectibles business. A full sized arcade deck to play their small cabinets ventures a little bit outside of their scope, but makes sense to practically play their cabinets. I think the full sized hype created will polarize the community at the official announcement and may be worse than "Non-playable Pinball-Gate".

But, If it does happen, Either they will be of similar quality as A1Up with reasonable prices... or they will be Replicade quality at quite expensive prices ($1,200+). And I'm not sure it will be a sustainable move either way really for that market.

    I don't like Arcade1Up just because the emulation isn't the best BUT and it's a huge one - The time and money it would cost to build your own cabinet, configure the emulators, ensuring the correct rom version as there are different versions of some games, certain glitches or gameplay tweaks across them or even content changes.
    Personally I would love to get my hands on real hardware, flash cart them and be done but I don't have the space so instead I have spent a couple years at this point building my emulation setup across 24tb (3x8tb) I'm still going as at the time I started some emulators were poor or non functioning but it's getting better.
    The input lag thing is laughable to me personally because I do not feel it playing on ANY screen type, some people do and it "ruins" it for them but I have no issues with input lag with emulation.
    At the end of the day you get what is going to make you happy. If you get an Arcade1Up and it isn't what you expect then return, refund and move on. If you want an arcade cab but don't want to learn how to maintain an original, then buy a prebuilt emulation MAME cab where they require minimal to no effort and usually better emulation as well (in some cases)
    Just enjoy your games and don't be a snob about it.

  • @WillSams
    @WillSams 5 месяцев назад +1

    I bought a bunch of different systems thinking I would like hardware better. However, not going to lie: I enjoy the flexibility of emulation more. Nothing is as satisfying as throwing Batocera on an old desktop and having a blast.

    Most of the 1up cabs are not the shape of the original. Even the STARWARS. The average gamer won't care. And may buy 1 and stick it in their house. But if you are the person building your own arcade, I would assume you are not the average gamer, and would like like things to be closer to the original. Though in your case I'm guessing most of your guests who play the games are not die hard arcade fans. So having family over and having fun makes sense. But I would say you are the exception. Most people don't have arcade parties all the time. But I could be wrong. And I would say it's not emulation that is the problem, it is bad emulation. Yes there are some super purists of course.
