Good and honest video. Finnair's strategy was very dependent on flights to asia but despite the fact that Russia still remains closed (in October 2023), Finnair has succeeded to do the impossible trick and has survived the situation. They have managed to replace the east with the west. Finnair now flies to many places in the United States in many times a week. 5:45 Even with a lot of snow and de-iceing taking an hour, at least the plane was eventually able to takeoff and take you to your destination. If this were any other country than Finland, then all the flights would have been cancelled on the first sign of snow.
I just flew Finnair for the first time last week. I liked it. I got a great deal on Premium Economy/Business and the food was better than what I usually get. In fact, the Premium Economy flight was an AA flight and that food was horrible. I always bring snacks on planes, because I don't fly for a 4 star meal but to get safely from point A to point B and I know not to expect too much from the food. But I was happy with my experience, even though the food in the lounge was not that great ,either. But it was comfortable and I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thank you for your review, I just subbed. I reall like the little pieces of information you add to your videos.
I was surprised that you openly spoke of the war in Ukraine and the impact it is having on flight times and plans. This appeared a very honest and helpful review of this flight. Sad that they have had to downgrade so much.
One minor suggestion. Finland is not considered as a Scandinavian country as the language is completely different to those countries. Nordic is the right term though.
It has nothing to do with the language. It is about countries that make up the Scandinavian peninsula - Sweden, Norway and Denmark. All mentioned are Nordic countries as well as Finland and Iceland.
@@77Format incorrect, Denmark is not a part of the Scandinavian peninsula but is a Scandinavian country with the culture and language bond with Norway and Sweden.
@@mingzhu7049 Well with that definition - half of the northern Finland lies in the scandinavian peninsula and the second official language is Finland swedish so I guess Finland should be counted as one of the Scandinavian coutries as well...hehe. Finnish is the major official language but swedish is official too. About the language, I stand corrected. Live and learn. Thank you for your comment.
They are always the cheapest, but service now is not as good as before. Now one can save even more because of new pricing where one can choose not t have check-in luggage. On the flights to SE Asia about 2h are added to the flight time which is ok.
Thanks for honest review. Compare to other European airlines, Finnair is top there. However the popularity dropped due to longer time and pricing. We used to fly it’s business class to London, considerably cheap compare to other such as SQ, BA. And we don’t mind having stop over in Helsinski. Maybe timing wise they need to review as timing to Singapore don’t get much use at lounge at late hour.
Totally Agree ... Pre covid i used to fly FInnair Business like how ... Finnair Business Class now is is hardly Business Class anymore... I don't plan to fly anymore... its become too ordinary ...
Great video/subscribed. I had a time/date-constrained flight from Paris to Tokyo to Barcelona for a conference later this month (between two other conferences). The simple CDG-TYO-BCN flights on AF, JL were $10k+ for business class or $4k for coach, so I'm doing AF CDG-OSL AY OSL-HEL-HND AY HND-HEL-BCN for about $3400 all-in. My one previous AY flight (pre-Covid) was pretty mediocre, but this video makes them look better, although nowhere near the JL/NH class. At least as an OWE I can use the JL First lounge at NRT instead.
Thanks for the video, always well shot and edited and your reviews give a good balanced view of the pros and cons. Shame Putin's invasion has impacted the airline and airport and Finland in general. I wonder if cushions could be supplied for lounging on the seat? It does seem a "one fit caters for all" solution. As someone with a spinal injury I would be very wary about using it more than tradditional business where I can have just the right recline for me. Looking forward to your next video.
Great review - but I feel your frustration with regards to the Finnair F lounge. One World should say something. The food offering in the business lounge is full of slop (splashy food). I have enjoyed the F lounge when i arrived mid morning for an early departure to BKK & the food is amazing. I actually like the longer flights HEL to Asia because I sleep far far better on longer flights. However, I know Finnair are suffering due to the 20% increase in flight costs. I just hope peace in Europe comes sooner rather than later. I will be in the business lounge tomorrow evening - and will comment to the staff that the F lounge should still be open.
I’m so confused, is the business lounge only open till midnight? In their website it say it’s till 1am, got the same info from Finnair’s chat too. In your video it is clearly stated that it’s open till 24;00. I’m gonna fly to Singapore from Helsinki and my flight is 1;25, I bought a lounge access which allows me to be there for 3h prior my flight. I was convinced that it closes at 1;00 if it closes in midnight… then my lounge access is pretty useless
One assumes the longer flight means a correspondingly more expensive ticket price? I don’t think ANY airline has survived Covid in the same state as before. All seem to have lowered their standards of both soft and hard product with a corresponding increase in price.
Agree. Most airlines furloughed crews and some even forced experienced staff to get rehired on lower paying contracts. Lots of people left and the new hires are not offering the same standard (because they are probably trained differently).
Luckily that’s not how it works 😄 The seat doesn’t recline because you kinda just slip deeper into leg room place as it’s spacious. You can lay down or in any other comfortable position as it’s ‘kinda’ supposed to resemble the cozy comfortable couch you would have at home… Also as the seat is kinda a pod-like with a lot of fabric and soft material it works as a great noice canceling wall 😊
Another good video, thanks. Just one minor point, Finland is not part of Scandinavia. That only includes Sweden, Norway and Denmark. To include Finland (and Iceland), it needs to be calls the Nordics
No Helsinki based crews on Finnair flights to Singapore and Hong Kong, for a couple of years already. It's mostly about savings, though the Singaporeans especially are like by the passegers.
The food is very sad and cost cutting has been unreasonable. Did you know they have the same food format regardless of flight length…so you actually got the same catering quantity as a 7-8 hour flight…go figure. Basically Finnair didn’t even bother offering a proper long haul / expanded menu for a 14 hour flight. The worst part is the “second” meal in which you only get one choice…very cheapo. Also for “day” flights from Asia to Europe they offer the same menu format but instead flip the “second” meal to be the first…you are lucky you got a proper breakfast egg dish but some flights get a disgusting vegetarian quiche…as the second meal..:then no proper service for 10 hours (they don’t offer anything more substantial than cheap sandwiches in between). Finnair long haul business catering is so sad, cost cutting all over the place
Still, a point of criticism. Flying in Business class is not every ones goal. 85% of the people who watch this can probably not even afford the ticket and made me sad, Fly economy, as everyone else and not like a big spender in business class weighing everything on a golden leaf whether if is all good or not , Please get your feet back on the ground. . There are more people here watching this who really can't fly business/first class. It's nice to see but really you don't pay such a ticket yourself either, it said with miles or sponsored. It only becomes interested to me if it paid out of your own bank account. like me.
I fly as much as if not more than you, and I have NEVER had a single good meal, regardless of airline, when catered by Shanghai, Beijing or Shenzhen. If the food on this flight wasn't the "best", then those Chinese caterings wouldn't even get an F score. Hopefully with your focus in hospitality, you can bring some much needed elevations to Chinese quality.
I’m really positively impressed and surprised you are as a Chinese National speaking about a war in Ukraine 👍👍👍👍👍 As CCTV speaks all the time about a special operation 😮

This review has been really informative and many travelers will no doubt think long and hard before choosing Finnair as a stopover point to Asia. Three hours is a bit much especially on the recliner seat. A gentle suggestion; your accent and voice does sound quite forced, blocky and a bit false, as you over enunciate and under pronounce certain words. Maybe for your next trip you could use a bit more of your natural accent. Thank you for the review.

In my experience the A350 cabin is indeed more quiet than the B777 cabin.
