Your reaction just followed the same amoral path the drug lords take, on their way to the killing they’ve done. It’s justified, by necessity, or vengeance, or some warped sense of honor, but in all cases the innocent are still innocent. From the drug lord’s kids to the family of a small town mayor that he had murdered - all innocent.

Humanity is doomed as long as we allow ourselves to justify an amoral act by claiming the ‘ends’ justified it. What did killing the family accomplish? Did it prevent the next man down the food chain from taking over the business? Did it decrease the demand for drugs in the US that drives all of that evil? Did it make any other drug lord less likely to commit murders? Of course not. All it did was reduce the ‘good’ side to moral equivalence with the ‘bad’ side.
