Hey
hi
What is the brand tool you are using? I don’t want to purchase a bad brand. I don’t need expert tool though as will only use a handful of times
I bought an pyrography kit which is manufactured by CHOYA while studying in the UK.I thought it is useful enough for me as a beginner. It is still good working now.
Thanks for the help
Dyan, you're a natural teacher. You had examples of your work, organized the lesson well, stacking the steps in a nice logical way. I liked that you kept it simple and straightforward, while providing good side tips on safety, choice of tools (with consideration to costs) and ease of handling. Words of encouragement good too. It can take years of teaching experience to attain this array of skills so props to you (and grandma for the shop space)! And, thanks for the lesson. Even though I've done a bit of word burning, I still learned something and will check out your other videos!
+profnkb that's great to hear! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the wood burning videos! There will be a new one out soon I'm planning on filming one today!I love making these videos. I've stepped away from it for a bit to work on my other channel: ruclips.net/user/dylantaylor I'm coming back to this one strong though. I've learned a lot in the past month about making videos better. I'll be transferring those to this channel and it's videos.
Thank you again! And have an amazing day!
profnkb but Dylan failed to tells the type of wood that's best suited for wood burning or pyrogephy as it's more formally called.
I have an entire video dedicated to finding the best wood. you can check it out if you want ruclips.net/video/JJ-9uEhJHUc/видео.html
This was great!! Thank you.
I have to agree with Profnkb, very well put together! For someone who has never done anything wood burning, this was very nice to be able to see! Thank you for taking the time to put this video together for all of us!
thank young Maestro man .!!!..I'm 68 and I'm steel learning from good people like you...!!! Perfect !
Ahh, finally an actual beginners video on wood burning. Others start talking too fast and burn some fancy things and it's very intimidating! Thank you for showing the different types of wood burners and I'm glad I have the exact one you used here. Will definitely be subscribing. :)
+Roel Soto thank you so much Man! For the time you took to give this feedback! When you get more into the burning, I have a whole playlist of videos I've made on various things about wood burning.
Samsies i have the same one but green (the non changeable temp one)
Ya done good kid. I'm 57 and trying to learn how to wood burn(burn wood?). Quick and simple. Thanks
That's great to hear! I have loads of new videos! ones that I think are better than this one which is quite outdated and lower quality
Check out @jackvisserpyro
What a kind, sweet soul you have. Thank you for sharing your video with us. I have just started getting interested in wood burning. I wish my son had your patience and expertise. Bless your heart and I'll keep watching your videos. Thank you again.
+Charm Accents Thank you so much! Comments like this make me want to keep doing youtube videos!
Check out @jackvisserpyro we are doing a give away! To enter check out our latest video
This was great, thank you! And my hat goes off to you for being a full time student, AND working almost full time hours, AND keeping up with a hobby, AND making RUclips videos. Excellent work!
Excellent video Dylan! I am so impressed with your presentation, I'm a 58 yr old woman trying to learn woodworking and have watched a lot of youtube tutorials and your's has been the best. Thank you!
I don't think it's rocket science. Just go for it !
This was super helpful! Thank you for making the video. I'm memorializing some fallen soldiers my husband had the honor of serving with and I'm putting the names on my wood trim for my flower bed and buying solar spotlights to keep the names illuminated like the American flag in our yard and I knew I wanted to do wood burning but had no idea where to start.
I'm so glad I clicked on your video.
Thanks again.
What a pleasant, thoughtful young man you are. Your family must be very proud of you. Thanks for the great videos.
Very nicely done. The instructions were clear and the cautions helpful. Very likable young man!
good job bud... Im a 69 yr old lady just remembering how much fun i had doing this, with NO memory *how* ha! so this is great. Will be watching more. Cant believe how much i already learned :) Thanks
Nice
Dylan I can not say thank you enough. I am new to wood burning. In fact waiting for my tool to be delivered. I have watched a few beginner videos and was thinking " oh lord what have I gotten in to" , until I watched your video. I like the way you explained things simply so that it was easy to understand. Now I feel like I can do this.
Hey to everyone who has taken time to watch this video, it really does mean a lot to me! If you`re interested in seeing more of what I do, check out this channel! It`s my daily life channel where I make videos about my crazy interesting life and behind the scenes of Dylan`s DIY Workshop
I just recently decided to pick up woodburning as a hobby, something to do. Thank you for your video and I will be looking out for more from you. Thanks again!
Dylan you're a great tutor...it's awesome that you can fit this between your school and work and other stuff, and despite the young of your age it shows how devoted , focused and organised you are, and the will you have. I'm pretty sure the future will hold wonderful things for you because you deserve it! Thanks for the detailed presentation!
I'm impressed with your teaching skills. No unnecessary words yet very informative. I have a lot of respect for you young man.
Thank you so much!
Hey sending a big shout out from Va Beach...and a HUGE THANKS for the video. I'm a disabled vet with plenty time on my hands. I decided to give wood work a shot and wood burning. I'm a little intimidated being I can't draw a straight line but you covered that also..lol thanks so much..God Bless...GREAT work..
+Edmond Hatfield I am so happy to hear you enjoyed my video so much! And thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this video :) good luck with woodworking! And if you have any other questions about wood burning I'd be glad to help! I've learned a lot since I made that video last summer. I also have a few more videos going over different techniques and tricks! Happy burning!
thanks Dylan for taking the time to respond and for the encouragement. I'm definitely watching all of your videos and learning as much as possible. what brand is your wood burning machine? I'd rather purchase a nice one to start with.
+Edmond Hatfield it's a razertip ssd-10 it has never let me down. It's expensive though. There's a smaller model with only one port rather than the one I have that has two ports
ok thanks a lot Dylan..
+Edmond Hatfield no problem!!
One of the best basic beginners tutorials I've seen so far. Even explanation of different burners. Thanks.
Thank you so much!!
Great thank you!! I haven’t done wood burning in forever. Starting again, lucky to be naturally artistic. Still wanted some tips because it’s been 20 years ;)
hope it goes really well!
You are amazing, so easy to understand and follow. Love from Africa 😍
I just started watching your videos, today actually. I think you’re very helpful, you’re very patient and very nice and I think you’re doing everyone on here a great service! But you also need to take care of you and if you can’t be on here as much as you used to be or you would like to be or even how much other people want you to be on here then that’s the way it has to be.....you have to worry about your own life and that’s number one priority. So, speaking for myself please don’t be apologetic for trying to get your life started I think it’s great that you’re going to school LOL. So again thank you very much for the help I’ve been burning for quite a while now, I do more personal things such as a wedding picture frames things like that and I enjoy it tremendously it is very relaxing except for the part where my fingers start burning LOL. So I wish you all the best and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work thank you again and good luck
Thank you. You're a great teacher.
Greetings from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia 😊
I learned a lot watching this video, and I want to thank you for taking the time to show how to wood burn. Your video is so much better than others I've tried watching. Great job.
That puts a smile on my face to hear that. Thank you :)
Wow an actual beginner wood burning video!! Hands down best one I have found!! Great job explaining everything, love this!!
we watched this in my art class, a lot of people including the teacher thought the video was cringey but literally nothing about it is cringey? I think your works are rad and I actually enjoy your stuff. can't wait to see what else you make in the future ✌
hahaha it is cringey. I made this video like 450 videos ago at least. I'm (at least I hope) Way less cringey now
My first time in 40yrs. I love your work and how you explain it. Thank you for sharing.
I'm now convinced of giving wood burning a try I've always wanted to and now I will! Thanks!
+Brandy Thomas that makes me so happy!!!
Solid job! My first YT on wood burning and it was very simple very easy. I dn have to keep backing up and restarting because I missed something. Thumbs up!
Thanks Dylan, I am a novice, no a beginner! Thanks for going slowly over your instructions!
Kudos!
+Bernadette Quander no problem! I figured the best way to present the information was to talk kind of like a teacher would when teaching a lesson. Thanks for the feedback!
I had a crazy idea to pick up wood burning for a new hobby to give my husband Jonathan a sweet birthday gift, got my kit, then realized I have no clue what to do with it. Thank you so much for your video! I am now less nervous about starting my project and know the steps I need to do to complete it. I subscribed so I’ll get some more ideas. Thank you!!
thats awesome to hear! I hope it goes well!
Great tutorial, Dylan! I purchased the simple wood burner and found it awkward to handle but the simple kit did include a stand for the burner to keep the burner from rolling around. It's just 16 gauge wire bent into horseshoe shape and then bent to make a flat stand on the bottom. Something I know you'd be capable of making with a heavy gauge wire and a pair of needle nose pliers. 😊
Thank you Dylan, you can teach an old dog (or woman) new tricks. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and hope to see more.
Wow, Your skills are impressive! I used to do alot when I was many years younger (I'm 60 now). Just goes to show you Your never too old to have fun! I appreciate you taking the time to show people- Looking at some of your other videos I see your a master tradesman. Very nice & thanx again!
Very natural delivery. Really enjoyed watching.
Dylan, you are adorable. I know this was made 4 years ago so I hope you have been successful in your ventures. You are a natural for video teaching. I know these take time and it is appreciated with all your subscribers. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the video! I made a wood-burned sign for my brother's birthday and this helped me out a lot
Thank you so much for this video im currently making a birthday present for my girlfriend and ive got the wood shape cut out and i just needed to learn basics of wood burning ur absolutely amazing at it (: keep it up
thank you so much for the comment! good luck on the gift!
I really enjoy how you give exactly the details we need and share your personality. I also appreciate your editing to be respectful of time. This has helped this beginner greatly. Thanks a bunch! Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the simplicity, well laid out beginner's lesson, have a family member that will find this VERY useful, ur a very good teacher...that will serve you well later in life...great job!!!👍
Thank you so much! Im glad the video was helpful!
Well done Dylan you are a natural teacher.I am new to wood burning and have been looking at the soldering iron style wood burning and I am glad I watched your video first I can now look at something a little more expensive but worth it in the end.You are easy to listen too and know your stuff. once again well done, there should be more teachers like you out there.
Thank you so much! Im really glad the video was able to help you!
I can already tell you’re gonna be one of my favorite youtubers! Just recently got a tool and I thought I should give it a shot. I’m so happy I came across your video, you are a great teacher and glad you are still uploading new videos!
Never ever seen your channel just found you while I was looking for tips on wood burning, and not even 5 minutes in and I subscribed. You're awesome bro, I'm gonna be using a soldering iron to practice on tomorrow before I put it 3 foot long and 2 foot wide on my new coffee table that I made today out of pallets
Thank you very much I'm 40 and I'm just getting started with wood burning any help is good help thank you again
You were very good in explaining everything continue showing us new ideas.
thanks mate! i drank too many beers n tried a design on my axe handle n thought il have another go at this after 30 yrs! really good tutorial!
+nigel brazier that's great to hear that you want to get back into it; just don't have so many beers that it's not safe to use a red hot wood burner
I just bought a wood burning tool and this is the first video I watched. It is very informative and moves along at a good pace. Thank you for not adding annoying music! :)
Good video. Clearly laid out, and good clear view of what is being done, which is very important, and also good clear explanations
+Peter Mirtitsch thank you so much!! I've done many more wood burning tutorials since then. I believe I've gotten better with them since. The most recent is I believe "what kind of wood is best for wood burning" here's a link ruclips.net/video/JJ-9uEhJHUc/видео.html
Nice! I am a beginner. Already addicted! I like your work.
What a sweetheart you are! Very good video. I'm just starting to do this craft....your instructions were slot on and I so appreciate it. You do beautiful work! Take care and don't work too much.
Locked down due to coronavirus travel restrictions, thought I'd try my hand at wood burning. I'm glad I watched this video first. I didn't know about the different types of burners and their heat settings. This is good to know. Thanks!
Im just getting into wood burning, this has been a big help, thank you.
happy to help!! glad you enjoyed! any questions. feel free to ask!
Wow! I found this looking for insight on burning in a date for a neighbor's sign. My goodness man you are talented. Great to see young folks taking on crafts like this.
+CavanalK5 Thank you so much!!
Very nice tutorial to beginning woodburning. I picked up a wood-burning tool a while back and just now trying my hand at it. Thank you so much for making these videos it does really help a lot especially for somebody who is beginning. I'll definitely sub and keep an eye on your videos. Thank you so much
+April Gabriel I'm really glad to be a help!!! I hope you can get some good results from the wood burner! I'd love to see what you come up with! Be sure to ask any questions you have about it
Dylan's DIY Workshop thanks so much I did purchase one that has adjustable temperature and interchangeable tips. If I continue this Hobby and do well I might upgrade to the bigger better one. Thanks again
+April Gabriel that's great to hear!!
What more can I say! Everyone else seems to have covered just about all I would have wanted to say myself!
I am an artist of just about all mediums, from Painting, jewelry making, to sculpting and music. And just recently looking to add wood burning to that list. Mostly self-taught on some of them. But for the others, had a couple amazing teachers I've looked up to who've made learning a historically (learning the backgrounds and such) fun experience.
But when it comes to this avenue... classes via video, I'd say it's always good to have it available at our fingertips. As many people don't always have a way to either get out to find a good wood burning class on the fly, or especially (as I speak) when say, people all around the world may find they're faced with a lockdown because of a global pandemic (something all of us never thought we'd ever say).
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share and teach your craft with us. You are indeed a great teacher through and through.
Will definitely sub. *thumbs are up*
Excellent, wanted to try this for years finally have the time during lockdown. I can see where I’m going wrong now need to change the tip and turn temp up.👍
Great video for beginners! I used to mess with it as a kid. I've decided to do it as a Christmas gift. The going slow is the one thing I had never learned and now I can continue, but going slow lol
so happy you enjoyed it!
Great info sweethrart! Thanks for even explaining the more advanced machine... I saw it in another person's video but she didn't explain. I'm trying to use Woodburn for a way of getting quality time with my 10 yr old son who's a gamer. He's actually pretty excited! Nice to find such a great video from a younger person he can look up to. :)
+Tamara Newdiger thats so awesome to hear!! Im glad you enjoyed the video!!! If your son is a gamer, why not get a picture of his favorite video game characyer and trace it onto the wood so that he can burn it?
Dylan's DIY Workshop excellent idea!!
I bought a similar tool here in UK. I did my very first today, just lettering for my daughter's Christmas eve box. I'm glad my idea of penciling the letters on first. Thank you for the advice, your a star and thank you for the carbon paper tip.
super great video! really really helpful, especially compared to some of the other channels I've seen. Your focus on technique is super useful!
+Puru Athavale thank you so much! I'm so happy that I was able to help!!
You did a great job. Quality was good. It was simply and straight to the point. Thank you.
thank you for taking the tine to comment that! hope your project goes well!
Dude you are so awesome. Love this video and I can't believe that I'm learning from a young man (idk as apposed to a middle aged woman? 🤔🤐) You're just not the stereotypical RUclips tutorial person but you are truly one of the best teacher's. I'm super glad I found your channel and I'm totally subscribing .
+Holly Parry hey thank you so much!!! I guess it is a bit different to be the age I am and be teaching things. I'm glad you took something from this video, I have a whole lot more wood burning videos on my channel too! Thank you again for taking the time to comment and for subscribing!!
Watched this video today and found you AWESOME, easy to follow and under stand. Hope thinks are muc better for you since 2016
Ha! Holds up a Legend Of Zelda picture and said he'll provide a Link.
Killjoys Durran then says he will post "2 links"
And it had 2 links
Awesome!
The Kid I see 2 links... but what difference does it make?
I thought the same thing! Lol
A link to the past
Just got my first wood burning tool, I’m very excited to use it. I got lucky you where the first wood burning video to pop up when I was looking for a tutorial. You are a great teacher. Your video was super useful and easy. Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much! I hope you have a great time learning to wood burn!
Good job Dylan. Learned a lot, especially about the part needing patience when wood burning.
happy you enjoyed it!!
Seriously. I have been burning spoons and I am def inpatient. I need to upgrade my burner. This is a great tutorial. Thank you.
This helped alot, thank you. It's a simple concept but you helped me see it a bit differently. Beautiful flower.
Outstanding job. You should be a college professor, you're a natural instructor.
Dyan, good teaching skills, good examples, & techniques. I learned more from you than hrs I spent on Pinterest. Thank you and God bless.
I have big project on my guitar. I think im gonna do this pyrography on my top acoustic guitar. Thanks mate!
good luck with it!! feel free to ask any questions along the way
Thank you for this beginners guide your very good at explaining i will give wood burning a try after i have watched the second part of your video thanks again 😀
This video is BRILLIANT! I have only just started getting interested in the idea of wood burning but I thought it was far to difficult for some one like me with no artistic talent or co-ordination, but you have shown me that with time and patience even I can do it! :) Thank you so very much! I have now subscribed to you channel! :) Take it easy every now and then you have a very busy schedule and what you do is appreciated by your fans and watchers! :)
+Sarah Roberts thank you so much! I'm looking at this comment, it says 4 months ago. But the notification just came in. Sorry for the late reply, but thank you so much!! Happy wood burning!
I haven’t been on wood burning since I was 10. So just to re listen to this was helpful so ty
Thank you so much, you’re so sweet for doing this. I’ll use them all. Good luck in school 😉

+Jim Martin no worries bro!
Thank you for very good instructional video. You have made starting far less daunting than I thought it would be.
Young man, you are inspiring. Thank You. ❤
Thank you, Dylan. Great video with lots of neat tips. As someone pointed out previously, you are a natural teacher.
I'm starting wood burning today for the first time ever! This helped :D
+Bobble Head That is awesome!!! Send me a picture on Instagram @dylansdiystudio
It says its been 4 years! How has your wood burning skills progressed??
@@siryurtle i ummmmm haven't done much of it since then.... but i did take up printmaking
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. Good tip for any one who doesn't have carbon paper: you can use aa printout and cover blank with a soft leaded pencil and trace from printed side onto wood. If you ise enough lead it can work just as well.
That also works! Thank you for the comment
Thanks for the tutorial. Just got one for Christmas. I'm excited to try it out but have to acquire some wood first :D Want to draw some Art Nouveau but after watching this I think I'll try something a little easier first, aha :)
Love this video. You are good at explaining this stuff for a seasoned senior. I learned a lot. Am making a wood valance for over the windows instead of curtains.
Thank you for taking the time to make videos.
+CherMit72 Thank you for spending the time to watch them :)
Thank you Dylan. I agree you are a natural teacher. I learned a lot and made two Christmas ornaments tonight!
This is a fantastic tutorial, thank you so much!
I got one yesterday and am excited to use. I work with all types of art forms but held off wood burning. I was kind of scared that I would want to get too into it cause I’ve researched the prices for higher quality wood burners last year and remember them being pretty expensive. Oh well, it if happens it happens. Thanks for the video!!
Thank you Dylan for the Awesome video it was very helpful ! I got one for Christmas and I learned a lot from your video. It was very easy to understand because you took your time to explain ever thing nicely .I hope to get as good as you one day or years lol ! Thank you very much Mrs Wolfe 💜
+Steven Wolfe that's awesome to hear!! I'm really glad you learned a lot from this video! You have any other questions about anything about wood burning I probably answered them already and other videos where you can just ask a question in the comments here and I'll answer it for you! Look forward to hearing about how well the wood-burning turns out!
Dylan's DIY Workshop You are Awesome love the videos ! I plan on watching every video of yours I want to learn all that I can about wood burning and your videos are so self explanatory you make it look easy , keep up the great work and tks again for making the videos if not for you making them I wouldn't even have know that that there are different grades of burners that burn hotter ! Tks again and thank you for replying back to me also Mrs.Ricki Lynn Wolfe.💜
+Steven Wolfe I'm really happy that you enjoy the videos. And it's such a great feeling to know that I have been able to teach someone something New! Hope there's many more tips and tricks I can share with you. HAPPY burning!
Dylan's DIY Worksho I have learned so much from your videos Dylan I truely thought you could just get a piece of wood and burn it lol there is so much more to it by the wood you burn to the tips and how to use them and so on ,Iam learning so much from you your awesome:) Please keep the videos coming I watch them all 💜 Ricki Wolfe
Great intro to woodburning. I'm just starting a little project to make an open/closed sign for a volunteer group and your tips will help me do a reasonably good job for my first try. Thank you!
Cool thanks for this! My sis just bought one with a few different heads for it so thanks for this to help me start out especially the carbon paper idea too!!! Thank you 😊 cose she won’t use it very often so she’s going to let me use it 👍
Dylan, thanks a bunch for this video. I'm a beginner and never really watched "how to" videos before starting. You video is essentially one of the first "how to" videos for me and I really appreciate your time and effort, which has led me to subscribe 😃. Anyway, one thing I have learned is that I need to be PATIENT. And as I learn and become more confident, I hope to advance in machinery and skill. Thanks again!!!!
Amazing talent!! Beautiful. Thanks!!
Thanks dylan for making this tutorial, it was really helpful for me as a beginner
Thx for the tutorial man it really helped
I have never done this before and just wanted some advice as to what burner to buy. This vlog has been very helpful Dylan. I will not be using my Dad's soldering iron now (so I guess he thanks you as well). You have also given me some new idea of what I can do with this art. Thanks for posting. Your vlogs are great, but focus on succeeding in your studies. Then make a business out of this whether it by selling and/or teaching Pyrography. Be blessed.
Thank you for this comment! I read them all :) I would suggest the razertip system. although any wire nib wood burners are better than solid nib wood burners. Its quite a bit more money. but the ease of use is well worth it
Here Are Some Links to the wood burners I use.

My First Wood Burner (the red one): amzn.to/2zQRXz1
Dylan's DIY Workshop I burned a Superman logo on my cutting board. Is there something I should put on top; for example like a sealant or something? Thanks in advanced!
+jggmcr1 you don't normally want to use a sealant on a cutting board. Just mineral oil or beeswax, or both. I would be worried about burning onto a cutting board like that. If it's a smooth burn then you're fine. If you have some really sharp ridges that you cut down into, I would be careful about cleaning it to make sure that those cracks or crevices get completely cleaned out and no bacteria stays in it. But I wouldn't put a sealant on it. Hope that helps
Hey just curious how old are you?
18
Dylan's DIY Workshop thanks i'm 16 myself. it is really inspiring to see someone in my own age group, successfuly doing somthing they love. I think i speak for a lot of people when i say this, as such thank you not only for me but for all the people you entertain and inspire.
Thank you so much for this! My dad gave me that exact red one years ago and i didn’t know how to use it. Excited to show him what i can do with it(:
Thank you for the great video Dylan, I am just starting up so this has helped a lot. :)
+kattywebb1 that's awesome go hear that I was able to help you out!
this was so helpful!! I'm a beginner and I'm woodburning a swamp scene with two ducks. I was so clueless about how to shade! You're very talented, thanks for the video!
+Elisabeth L. Thanks for watching! Send me a picture of the swamp scene when you get it done! And feel free to ask any questions you have about it!
Dylan's DIY Workshop how do I send you a photo?
+Elisabeth L. If you have instagram. Send it to me @dylansdiystudio if not. You can email it to me dylansdiystudio@gmail.com
Dylan's DIY Workshop I just sent it!
Thanks for this, you're a great teacher!
