Crazy how simply upgrading the handle makes such a huge difference!
It’s one of the first things I do after getting a new reel… gotta upgrade from the stock handles!

2:14 -- The problem I have with the stock, rubber handle is stated right there in the ad "Hurt your hand."
The stock rubber handles on my Daiwa BG 4000 & 5000 gave me a major friction burn, kind of like a burn called "grip rip" that gymnasts get. Chunks of skin between my left middle finger and left index finger were ripped off when cranking heavily from 200 feet of depth while offshore rock fishing. (Didn't have this problem when fishing pelagics because my left hand was constantly wet from dipping it in the bait tank for sardines). However with rock fishing, my left hand was constantly dry since I used a single dropper loop with rubber squid jig and no live bait.
My (cheap) solution to this "grip rip" was to wrap smooth, black electrical tape arouns the portion of the stock, rubber grip that was causing the friciton burns.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I can def see how these power handles can be super beneficial when dealing with bigger fish or deeper waters.

It looks nice, bet you’ll feel the difference after using it for awhile then using a stock handle again.

I have an ultralight rod and reel setup and put one of these on it in case I hook a big fish. 28” red so far so it works. I just bought a Penn 6500 Spinfisher LC ($250) for a surf rod and surprised it didn’t come with a power knob. You have to go a Slammer ($330) to get one. I’ll see how the reel feels but will probably get one for it.

Sweet video man , always wondered about those … although I find power knob handles to be over kill for perch or halibut etc. I might get one for on the boat handling bigger fish that knob would help for sure .

Thanks Julio! Yea, I don't think that these will have much impact for the species we target in SoCal, I think it's more for aesthetics and comfort. At least that's how I look at it. Not required by any means but cool to have if one goes that route. Tight lines!

Great review, but was weight/ balance an issue? Maybe next time out on the sand will tell? My Kage came with plastic bushings in the handle knob, I’ve since replaced them with bearings.

Hi Bob, that's a great question that I didn't consider. It seems ok but you're right, I'm gonna have to wait till I get on the sand and see.

Keep it oiled to keep it spinning, cuz after some time it will only spin for hours, not days.
All kidding aside, the 'knob only' works well also, but it doesn't have that same cool factor as your plug-n-play model.
    Great review BKF!

The smallest plug and play handle I found was 35mm diameter. Is this too big for a Fuego 2500?

I just would like to know how much money do you guys make when you think buying a handle for a reel for 35 bucks isn’t expensive?
