Good video! But few remarks i can say: 1) Rotor retaining bushing and bearing don't have same inner size. To replace this bushing correctly, you need original Stella's part(bearing with integrated brass bushing), or use thin bushing(just like old Daiwa's have) 2) If you have high quality bearing to put in spool(NMB DDL series or EZO stainless), better put it inside reel, as second drive gear's bearing. Hi there great channel and instructional video. I have just purchased the 2500HG model and would like to upgrade ASAP. Do you have the spec and sizes of all bearings needed for this upgrade...advice would be gratefully appreciated.....👍
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the channel and the video! Everything in this video is the exact same specs and sizes for the 2500 Vanford so everything I do in this video would work for your 2500 or a 3000 sized Vanford!
Great video. I learned a lot from this. Question: Can I do the bearing upgrade on a Sustian FL and the shimano Twin Power FD and the newer XD versions, and are the ball bearings the same part numbers. Thank you
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing So basically the vanford is a stradic FL with lighter body? If not whats difference between the 2? Thanks for a great walk through!
Shinkiro That is pretty close! It’s a Stradic FL with the Ci4+ Carbon body and rotor. With the MGL rotor on the Vanford you have less startup inertia energy needed therefore making it a lighter feel when you spin the handle.. you also have the weight reduction from the Ci4+ and you also have the addition of one extra ball bearing in the Vanford!
Hi! Thx for great video, talented job step by step. Please help me if You can, how can i find the bearings sizes for my 4000 Vanfords. I love these reels, but watched Your video and hope for tune it up. Best regards, Vik
You would have to remove the bushings out of the reel and measure them to have them replaced I have not done a 4000 unfortunately! If you compare the bushing part numbers with the 3000 schematic you saw in this video then you can get some easy bearing part numbers!
hello guys! First of all, a very nice video, it help you a lot if you want to understand how to upgrade and how a shimano reel work. Second of all I want a link to buy shim for 2x5x2.5 bearing and 3x6x2.5 bearing. Thank you in advance. Have a nice day.
You make it look so easy! Great job explaining. Makes we want to do the upgrade as well. Sadly in the Netherlands the bearings are not that easy to come by so I'll have to find them. Keep up the great work you and tackle advisor I love to watch when it comes to reels.
Haha thank you for the nice comment! And I'm glad you think so. yeah if you can get to it it would be worth while! The biggest overall improvement in my opinion is the Gomexus Handle for sure! Wow that is a huge compliment! Thanks man I appreciate all your kind words!
What more can I say. I got totally excited watching this. You are very talented and your steps in the vids are very easy to follow. Major thumbs up. Ps. Had to change my boxers as I wet my pants. Kudos to you.
I have a Vandford 2500 HG and everything worked great . My question is the shims on the Oscillating bearings the same for the 2500 Hg as the 3000 in your video . Thank you for the videos they are very informative
at 17:55 .. side bearing the sheild.. how many washers is original? in my vanford 3000 it was 4... but in sustain 2500 it was only 2?? i cant find the sheild that hold the beaing and sims in place it just disapeard,, but it seems to work any way :.. but. in 2500 vanford cant remeberif it was 2 or 3 shcim. i placed 2 thick and athird thin thin..to try remove handle wobble play,.,. it worked okey.. but it feels a little more "ruff" to reel ..vanford 3000 hg had 4 scims and still has a little to much glöitch and play ( just like the old stradic ci4) if uou know.. how many shims is original in vanford 2500 and is it thick only or thick and one thin? and the othger bearing on the side where you can move the handle .. there is no schims.. is that really good?? a open bearing?
One thing I'm not sure about is the upgrade of the rotor retaining nut. The brass bushing with a o-ring on the outside is replaced for a ball bearing without o-ring on the outside. My worry is that this creates more clearance. Another thing that worries me is the fact that the main shaft runs up and down through the inner ring of the ball bearing creating axial load instead of radial load. Also the material of the ball bearing could be damaging the main shaft. In my opinion there is a sleeve bearing in this position because of the rotating and linear motion of the mainshaft. On the other hand if this is exactly the same as the Stella it should work fine 🤔. Curious how this part of the upgrade will do after a good field test. Please let us know! Thanks! 👊
Robert de Jonge I completely see where you’re coming from and it will not make a difference in smoothness in my opinion.. there isn’t more clearance as the brass bushing was reallllyyg tight with that seal. And I know I completely agree but here is the Stella Schematic: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2300/2455/files/STLC3000XGFI.pdf?12260947669904273612 There will be an entire video on the reel first time fishing with it so I will definitely let you guys know! As far as that bearing upgrade is concerned.. (my opinion) that upgrade seems to not help much and isn’t truly worth the time and money 🤷🏽♂️ buttt I could be wrong. We will find out in a field test!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing Thanks for the schematic :) I really hope everything goes well, but looking at the drawing you send it should be ok! Thanks again for your video's and replies. Looking forward to your next video! Tight lines 👊
Robert de Jonge youre welcome buddy! And thanks I hope so too! And yeah I think it should go good! And you’re welcome! Thanks for all the comments and input! Thanks dude! Tight lines!!
It’s not the same size unfortunately. That’s I the same size as the 1000 reel which o have a video on that I produced with the Stradic FL that would be the same!
Will do my friend! And it should be... Just make sure you order the correct spool support for the 4000 and parts check the bushings between each other! If the 3000 Schematic has the same bushing number as the 1000 and 4000 for that part, It will fit!! Good luck my friend and stay tuned for the next video!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing Question I have a Vanford 4000xg. I would like to do the bearing upgrade that you have shown. Comparing my 4000 to your 3000, the only thing that looks similar is the upper and lower worm gear bushings. Which Stella model/year would I compare my 4000 to match the bearings. Do you have a link that shows the parts diagram and part numbers for the Stella I need? Keep up the good work.
I write down from Colombia. Amazing video!!! You make it look easy. May be you must should make a new video given the comments from "Мамонтов Павел", its no easy to undertand whitout see. Pleace, can you tell me how many bearings can I upgrade to my Vanford C2000HG, which are the references and what other things I need to do? Thank you a lot!
Awesome! Thank you for the nice words! Yeah I have thought about doing it again with those added tid bits but I feel as they make such little different to warrant a whole new video. I haven’t done the Vanford 2000 so I don’t know what bearings you need but the best way to find out is pull all bushing out. Measure them. And replace with correct size bearing! Good luck!
I would draw the line on probably 40+ pound class. If you were to get much bigger than that I think the internals would be under a constant load of high stress and probably wear the reel down pretty quick. Thanks for the awesome question dude.
Because the main shaft doesn’t rotate and the spool doesn’t sit on the spool bearing is it worth the upgrade? I guess the same question applies to the brass bush in the brass nut below. The shaft simply moves up and down through that.
That’s a good question. When the spool spins and is under load I would believe it would help slightly. But I’m not quite sure. I definitely agree that the rotor retaining nut bearing is not important.
Hey bud, great vids. Any chance you could do a layout of the Shimano line? Models keep changing and upgrading, and sometimes it’s hard to understand what the $25, $50, or $75 difference gets you. A bearing for $8 seems to be worth $50 in reel models!
Nice video..I need upgrade my vanford c2000s similar like you doing on that vanford c3000 what stella year I need to refer for a bearing, spacers, & bushing.can you help me to list all bearing, bushing & spacer in need to replace. Thanks mate.
Thank you! I would check out the 1000 size bearing upgrade kit because from my understanding it’s the closest to the 2000 but I’ve never done one before so I can’t tell you for sure!
Just finished the upgrade. The lightness of the Vanford C3000XG was surprising. It went well and quicker than the stradic-stella conversion but I didn't notice any significant difference before and after.
What a selling point for these parts to be included in the reel. I noticed some of the parts were from the same country the reel was made. I guess you could pay 1000 dollars for a 3000 series reel and still find uptrades...
Gonçalo Mateus Thanks man!! As long as I keep getting shared by you guys I’ll get there one day! @@jsmith7790 for some reason my notifications for this video were turned off. I’m sorry! Thanks for subscribing and I seriously hope you understand! You really wouldn’t notice a huge difference just replacing those two bearings. The best bearings to replace for a large difference would be worm gear bearing upgrades. It can be a daunting task!
Wow your upgrade videos are great! I'm in the market for a new reel.. Would you recommend getting a stradic fl and doing the bearing upgrade or waiting for the vanfords to come back out and do the upgrade? Hey man, I’m looking at buying the vanford for some in shore fishing on a 2-5kg zodias. I was wondering if you know the differences between the 2500 and and the 3000 and which you think is better. Thank you! Love the content.
One of the main differences is that the 3000 Vanford has carbon fiber frag washers and the 2500 has felt washers. Other than that the other differences are the spool depth and capacity and the handle knob!
You're welcome! And yes I can try, which bearings are you referring too? this guide of the 2020 Vanford will work with your 1000 Size Vanford and the ci4 upgrade video will work with your 1000 sized ci4

Every time I try to fix a reel, it doesn’t work the same way as before. Maybe I miss placed some of the small parts. I don’t try to fix it anymore, I just send it in to get it repaired and pay a fee

No they don’t, and not all shims and spacers are included but that part number is unfortunately discontinued so do not swap the worm gear oscillation pawl from a bushing to a bearing.
Any thoughts on why the Vanford requires RD2298 (oscillating slider spacers) when the Stradic FL doesn’t? Seems like they would be the same and that was the only difference I noticed between the two videos. Thx!

Not sure how this comment fell through the cracks so I’m sorry about that but I personally would pick the Vanford 4000 because I mostly throw artificial lures and prefer the sensitivity the ci4 offers! I do really believe the Vanford is smoother than the FL

So i bought all the bearings that you linked but where do i get the spacers that you got in 21:45 ?
Unfortunately I believe those spacers have been discontinued. I’m sorry for the inconvenience!
Saw another guy do this and he put one of the 2 shims at the rear of the worm gear in front of the bearing and one behind. Said the retaining plate can interfere with bearing otherwise. Makes sense
That would make sense to me! I’ll have to check that out!
Hello! I need HELP! I put my retaining nut on before the rotor 29:24 in your video. I realized after I did this I did not have the rotor on. So I went to remove the retaining nut and its stuck on the brass piece I screwed it too. I have no way at all of getting this to come off on this brand new reel that I have not used. Please help me. I opened the reel back up to see if I could free it by stopping a gear that may spin but I can't. The gold gear below just turns. What do I do? I was trying to upgrade not trash my $300 reel. Please help....I am dying with this new beautiful reel in pieces and useless 😢
I would recommend a vise grip on the shaft of the pinion gear and then using a wrench on the rotor nut!
Nice work!! Very clear video!! Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks for the awesome comment!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing do you know if it will work for the 2000 size?
Great video. I learned a lot from this. Question: Can I do the bearing upgrade on a Sustian FL and the shimano Twin Power FD and the newer XD versions, and are the ball bearings the same part numbers. Thank you
awesome videos ..a lot info there ...also those knobs are something must say a big fan of them.
Thanks dude!! And oh yeah I pack these videos with info! And I love them for most situations! Can't go wrong with em..
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing i totally agree 👍
LAWRENCE VAZ Love this one on the Vanford. I will never go back honestly
I didn't realize that this had a big lip on the rotor under the spool. A nice extra water barrier? I like it.
Ralph Eastham Yep!! Another entry point limited! I like how the FL and the Vanford both have one!
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing I have an FL and somehow I didn't notice it before lol
Ralph Eastham hah! You learn something everyday! The things these engineers sneak in when we’re not looking!
Best regards,
Vik
You would have to remove the bushings out of the reel and measure them to have them replaced I have not done a 4000 unfortunately! If you compare the bushing part numbers with the 3000 schematic you saw in this video then you can get some easy bearing part numbers!
hello guys! First of all, a very nice video, it help you a lot if you want to understand how to upgrade and how a shimano reel work.
Second of all I want a link to buy shim for 2x5x2.5 bearing and 3x6x2.5 bearing. Thank you in advance. Have a nice day.
Thank you for watching!
Everything through Germany, they have everything. Around 5 euro per set. Total upgrade would be sitting around 50 euro.
Big fan of the Gomexus Knobs, I have upgraded quite a few of my reels with them 💜🎣
I absolutely love them!!

I have a Vandford 2500 HG and everything worked great . My question is the shims on the Oscillating bearings the same for the 2500 Hg as the 3000 in your video . Thank you for the videos they are very informative
Yes they will be the same! And thank you for the comment man!
Watch the Benford upgrade video.
Thank you.
I have one question.
Can I know where to sell oscillating sider bushings?

Shimano removed them from the website! I would just skip that upgrade as it doesn’t do much and it’s a pain to find those parts! Good luck!
at 17:55 .. side bearing the sheild.. how many washers is original? in my vanford 3000 it was 4... but in sustain 2500 it was only 2?? i cant find the sheild that hold the beaing and sims in place it just disapeard,, but it seems to work any way :.. but. in 2500 vanford cant remeberif it was 2 or 3 shcim. i placed 2 thick and athird thin thin..to try remove handle wobble play,.,. it worked okey.. but it feels a little more "ruff" to reel ..vanford 3000 hg had 4 scims and still has a little to much glöitch and play ( just like the old stradic ci4) if uou know.. how many shims is original in vanford 2500 and is it thick only or thick and one thin? and the othger bearing on the side where you can move the handle .. there is no schims.. is that really good?? a open bearing?
Nice video, but could you leave the message how to get the RD16471?
Unfortunately I believe that part is discontinued! I’m sorry!
Sick I might have to do this. Going to watch the guy you shot out idk any thing about upgrading spools going to watch a couple
Yeah dude it’s worth a try if you have some extra time and patience to tinker!
And I know I completely agree but here is the Stella Schematic: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2300/2455/files/STLC3000XGFI.pdf?12260947669904273612
There will be an entire video on the reel first time fishing with it so I will definitely let you guys know!
Tight lines 👊

hi friend, I just bought the vanford c2000 it is the bearing same size with the c3000? I'm really interested your video try to upgrade myself 😊
It’s not the same size unfortunately. That’s I the same size as the 1000 reel which o have a video on that I produced with the Stradic FL that would be the same!
Fantastic, keep 'em coming. Do you kmow if this will be the same for the 1000 and 4000?
Good luck!
Hey buddy hows it going love the videos I have a question I have a 4000 series vanford ,where would you draw the line on the fish you would target
I would draw the line on probably 40+ pound class. If you were to get much bigger than that I think the internals would be under a constant load of high stress and probably wear the reel down pretty quick. Thanks for the awesome question dude.
Really enjoying your videos. Just subscribed!
Awesome dude thanks for subscribing!!
Great video thanks for this who doesn't want $1000 reel upgrade. My question is are these bearing upgrades the same for the 4000xg vanford?
They won’t be all the same bearings unfortunately! Thanks for the awesome comment though!
I have the Vanford 500, 2500 also, are the bearings different for these two reels?
Yes most of the bearings are completely different sizes
Hey bud, great vids. Any chance you could do a layout of the Shimano line? Models keep changing and upgrading, and sometimes it’s hard to understand what the $25, $50, or $75 difference gets you. A bearing for $8 seems to be worth $50 in reel models!
Thanks for the compliment buddy! I could definitely try to add that to the list of videos! You just want the true differences between the models?
Nice video..I need upgrade my vanford c2000s similar like you doing on that vanford c3000 what stella year I need to refer for a bearing, spacers, & bushing.can you help me to list all bearing, bushing & spacer in need to replace. Thanks mate.
Thank you! I would check out the 1000 size bearing upgrade kit because from my understanding it’s the closest to the 2000 but I’ve never done one before so I can’t tell you for sure!

I have vanford 1000. Do u have ant idea which shimano reel schematic i should follow to upgrade/add the bearings? Thanks.
You’re best bet is the stella FJ 1000. Good luck!
So on the oscillator paw... does it go...
Spacer > bearing > spacer > bushing
? Since you had 2 spacers, was the bearing sandwiched between them?
Please can you tell me where I can get all the upgrades including the gomexus handle for my new vanford f c3000 reel .
They are all in the description below the video.
Just finished the upgrade. The lightness of the Vanford C3000XG was surprising. It went well and quicker than the stradic-stella conversion but I didn't notice any significant difference before and after.
Yeah super light reel! And bypassing the Anti reverse and everything else made it much quicker!
Was looking forward to this. Great job!

Any idea if the Vanford 2500 spool is interchangeable with the 3000 reel? Great vid, nice work!
Yes it is!! Thank you for the compliment!
Great video !
How much weight is added with the Gomexus knob ?
Around 0.35 of an oz!
Nice video! Question, will all the parts you list in the description compatible with Shimano vanford 2500 reel?
Yes! It will work directly.
@@WestCoastFloridaFishing thank you 🙏
So all of the bearings you listed are the same for the 5000 model? Except the spool support bearing?
What a selling point for these parts to be included in the reel. I noticed some of the parts were from the same country the reel was made. I guess you could pay 1000 dollars for a 3000 series reel and still find uptrades...
Will the parts be the same for the 2500hg model?
Yes it would! Thanks for the question man!
Does these upgrades make reel more durable and smoother?
It does not make it more durable. It does slightly increase the smoothness.

So I'm going to assume you are not interested in answering.
@@jsmith7790 for some reason my notifications for this video were turned off. I’m sorry! Thanks for subscribing and I seriously hope you understand! 2500 enough
One of the main differences is that the 3000 Vanford has carbon fiber frag washers and the 2500 has felt washers. Other than that the other differences are the spool depth and capacity and the handle knob!
@@mrpro6205 for some people it can be!
The handle knob is different
The spool also holds a little bit more line.

Great video. Is it possible to do the same to a vanford 500?
I don’t know but I’d love to try it!!!!
How is the Vanford better then the Stradic FL? :)
Do you know the part number or have a link for a line roller for a vanford 3k? the line roler on mine is locked up and needs replaced. thanks
Do all the bearings come pre lubricated? Are all shims and spacers included in the links?
No they don’t, and not all shims and spacers are included but that part number is unfortunately discontinued so do not swap the worm gear oscillation pawl from a bushing to a bearing.
Hey mate. What was modal/size of the knob upgrade did you use?
What’s the part number for that bearing behind the pinion gear?
Any thoughts on why the Vanford requires RD2298 (oscillating slider spacers) when the Stradic FL doesn’t? Seems like they would be the same and that was the only difference I noticed between the two videos. Thx!
I’m not quite sure! Its possible I missed the shims on the Stradic I’d have to go double check!

Can only seem to buy C3000HGF in Australia. What is difference with XG version and will the parts still fit this version?
Thanks for the great video, gives me the confidence to have a go. You now have another subscriber and will check out your other vids. I read elsewhere that the XG is EXtra gear and has a higher retrieve rate than the HG version. Also the HG only has felt drag washers in the 3000 model.
