Very informative video under 25 minutes. A lot of good information to know about when shopping for a good reel, especially if you glean information from the comments. Nice job, unfortunately I am not in the market for one. Maybe I will remember when the time comes. If not, then I know who to ask. Still can't believe that you don't have more subscribers.
Favorite part is that you have all these super high end reels but use the Daiwa Legalis most. That says a lot. Is the Legalis your best reel under $100?
This review is spot on man👌🏽 Exactly my opinion of the 2 as well, the Vanford is an amazing reel but it is half the price of the Vanquish, so of course its not going to be as good, but for that price it gets close enough, hence "budget Vanquish" or "Vanquish ci4+", essentially a cheaper version in my eyes, but Vanquish is without a doubt the better of the 2 as it should be and worth every cent 🤙🏽 Oh and 1 more thing, the "roughness" is because of the body, in these tiny reels with carbon bodies, the carbon amplifies the movement of the oscillation, you don't feel it too much in fishing but you feel it a lot in hand as you would have experienced, No matter how expensive they are, any small 1000-C2000 reel with a carbon body will have more vibration in hand in the body than the larger sizes or reels with metal, its just a physics thing and cannot be changed, unless you avoid carbon in that size. Anyway great review man! Enjoyed it 🙌🏽🎣
A very well covered review as always. For me the Vanford is a Stradic FL on a Ci4 body that has Mgl rotor hence why it feels smoother than the old Stradic Ci4 and as what you mentioned it also has less handle slop compared to the Ci4
@@ifishcatfish I just converted a 1000 HGFL Stradic to 12+1 BB (Stella like reel) and I find it much smoother than it was. No grease on the oscillating gear. I also did a C3000HGFL to 12+1 and it is really smooth. The Stradic FL is an unbelievably versatile machine
I just got into ultralight fishing. Your videos are the only in depth videos. I ordered a dobyns sierra 6’2 ultralight and I’m looking for a good reel for it. What would you remained for a 1000 sized reel under $300? I live in Miami so I’ll mainly fish for bass and panfish but I travel to north Carolina to trout fish. I’ll be using 2lb test or 6lb braid. Thanks!!
I have a video called Ultralight Reel Buying Guide 2022. Only Stella and Vanquish have been updated, everything else is still valid in that video. There i have recommendations at every price point based on style of fishing
The vanford is nice, as is the vanquish. the Stella is in a class of it's own. But dollar for dollar, the steal of the last 25 years is the Diawa Legalis...$50 some places for less ...the entire LT is quite impressive.

Again, fantastic review... I am also a tackle junky. You are absolutely right on The roughness of 1000 body. Strangely all ci4 body in 1000 or 2000s are like this. I have bought the Shimano soare BB 2000s size in the aluminium body which is a lot cheaper and I swear there is less resistance than the ci4 stadic. I would recommend highly this reel even if it’s a little heavier ;)
Great job Victor. Another quality in-depth review. My favorite spinning reel currently is the Daiwa Ballistic. Maybe I’ll give the Shimano Vanford a try for next season.
If u fish 2500 - go for it, there are some small improvements over the Ballistic, but nothing major. If u fish 2000/1000 size don't bother, the ballistic feels better.
I dont know about the new but i bought and returned a couple of penn baitcasters two years ago. They felt rough and clunky, like a russian winch. Very disappointing. I dont know about new ones
@i_fish how are your thoughts on the Daiwa Certate LT? In my country it is double the price of a Vanford and just about the same as a Vanquish. Id like to try a high geared one 6,x but i cant decide if I should buy a Certate, Vanford or Vanquish. I with with a Shimano Lunamis spinning rod - weight is 118g. Ive used to Daiwa Exceler 1000 (185g) on it, and it feels perfect. Might go up to 200g and still fit perfectly. So im looking to buy a 2000 or 2500 size for this rod. I fish trouts in saltwater :) Ive seen your vid about vanford in 2000 size :( I hope you have some thoughts. Thanks for the awesome vids! :D
Yeah, Luvias and Vanford are no good in the 2000 size. Very disapointing flops from both companies. If you can tolerate 200 grams on the rod, Twinpower and Certate LT in the 2000 size are both really good. My Twinpower is the most perfect reel i have ever touched, but there are always small variances from reel to reel. If i knew everyone will get exactly mine Twinpower, i would recommend that reel to a lot of people. In my book Twinpower and Certate are of same feel and quality. Certate has bigger spool and gears but shimano has better line lay and casting and drag sound. I personally would pick whichever reel matches the rod better in aesthetics. Of course, if you can afford a Vanquish, i would get the 2500S size. That is a reel you will remember forever. It is so light that u can get the bigger model.
good for what? Magseal may offer more complete protection, but you have some friction, even if it is with a liquid. X-protect may not be as complete, but is completely frictionless, and for me thats better as i don't care for protection too much. In practice though, both a great and it doesn't matter much
@@ifishcatfish oki, I was thinking about from salt from the waters i fish :) I've been looking at vanquish 2000 and 2500. The only real difference - to me - is that the brake is more than double as strong on 2500 than 2000. Is that the only real change? I'm liking the idea of 2000 as it would fit my 9" and 6" ul rod :D Because of lockdown I can't go to a store to compare them 🤦♂️
Greetings from switzerland, i love the way you review all these reels and i would like to ask you something about the shimano vanquish 3000 model from 2016. At your knowldge is it possible to swap the handle with the 2500 size model?
yes. You can even swap the handles between the 2016 and the 2019 models. The new handle looks much nicer and will fit on the old reels, if u can find a new handle
U dont have many choices. I think $250 is not a good price point right now for small size reels. No good recommendations. Just buy daliwa exceller for $60 and u get a reel just as good as vanford but a little heavier. But at least its cheap. Or if u have money go twinpower or vanquish
@@ifishcatfish Thank you for the response. Have you had an opportunity to try the Okuma Helios SX in 2000 size? I recently bought one as it ticked all my boxes--light weight (6 oz), low gear ratio, etc. So far I'm impressed with it, but the only thing I have to compare (which isn't a fair comparison) is my Tatula 2500. I think I may prefer the Okuma. Thanks again.
What about the Stradic fl? I’m torn between the fl1000 and the vanford 1000. I mainly fish small streams and medium rivers for trout. The main difference I see is the gear ratio between the two and the new rotor in the vanford but which should I get?
Well one is aluminum one is magnesium. Clutch is different. Resistance much different. One is a bass reel and one is a trout reel. Both good, but FL is made for strength, and Vanford for finesse
I want a 1000-2500 size reel for finesse I bought a diawa bg 2500 but it's not buttery smooth anymore it feels like something is binding up inside you can just feel something when you spin the handle what would you recommend I was thinking twin power 1000??? All I do is saltwater fishing BTW diawa bg only lasted like 9 months but I've had the problem for like 3 years
@@ifishcatfish do you have any idea why my 2500 diawa bg feels unsmooth ima take it apart this weekend I have a feeling it's because I used Penn reel grease ima buy some diawa grease maybe that with help or do you recommend a grease or have any idea why I can feel the handle vibrating when I'm fishing I still use it just fine but it just doesn't feel right
when u fish with only one reel your sensitivity adopts to it. You have to cast with them back to back and you will feel the grit in the 2000 even more than when idle. When retrieving a fish the 2500 stays smooth, and the 2000 grit becomes even more noticeable. In my observations
Super review. Loved you compared the reels both of higher and lower price and model ranges in great detail. Certainly helps with buying decisions and I am pleased to have concentrated my coin on the Legalis\Exceler\Fuego range. I only bank fish in Florida and wonder if the Eradicator is a little too delicate for such an application.
It not about the fish. Its about you. If you can take good care of it during transportation u can use it and u will love it. U dont have to buy the super ultralight. They have beefier models
I ultralight fish, and i cant bring myself to buying a 2000+ size reel. The Vanford i ended up getting was the 500. I feel like i dont need more than 6lbs of max drag for panfishing.
@@clintoriggle1053 stop talking about drag. Nobody buys reels because of pounds of drag. Watch my video because you are living in some bubble and u need to pop it. 500 is an ice fishing reel.
Bought 19 Vanquish to replace 16 Stradic. The size is 1000 both there and there. To be honest, I won’t say that vanquish directly causes a wow effect. It is better .. well ... by 35 percent ... but not 3 times, as for the price. If I wrote crookedly, I'm sorry, I don't know English.
Thanks for the reviews. They are very informative. However, I'm just a casual fisherman who owns mustly low budget tackle. Would you mind sharing some brief and general thoughts about Pflueger President reels? Thanks.
Hi Victor, Could you please help me select a reel size for my 7'2" ultra light, 1-3 kg rod? I am stuck between a C2000 or 2500 Shimano 2023 Vanquish, planning to throw 1/16 jig heads with PE 0.6 Braid. Appreciate your suggestion! Also, will a 2023 Vanquish review be coming soon? Cheers from Oz
Its hard to tell. If your rod is very expensive and light and has those micro guides, then go with 2000, which can throw 1/16 no problem. If your rod is cheaper than $300 USD, it will probably have bigger guides, and will me kind of heavy, and 2500 will probably balance better. Also, 3KG fish is a good load. To be honest i don't believe people when they tell me they catch 3KG fish on ultralight, maybe a few a year, but not regularly. But if u catch fish that big, then another reason to go 2500. If u cast jig heads stay with low gear ratio models, no more than 5.6:1
for those who considering buy a vanford: not every vanford is the same in terms of reeling noise. if you can, pls try it before buy it, if not, return it if you hear excessive noise
noise may vary, but the grinding sandy feeling in the gears of the 2000 size will always be there. Then to make it super complicated, the 500 size does NOT have the grinding feeling, because they removed the oscillation worm for the small size, and used locomotive oscillation. I don't know about the 1000 and 1500 sizes though, but 2000 size will always have unpleasant rough gear feel
Thank you sir. You just saved me $229. What light weight size 1000/2000 would you recommend in the $200-$300 range? Or should I save my money and step up to the $400 bracket?
Yeah, both the Luvias and the Vanford are no good in this size. Either go higher or lower. The Exceller and Legalis are definitely smoother and nicer feeling than the vanford, but heavier. Vanquish is the best, of course. Teinpower is actually just as good, but heavier again. 240 price range has no good offerings
@@ifishcatfish Daiwa Exceler 2021 LT-2000 size have 185g and vanford 155g,If you say Exceler/Legalis are much smoother than Vanford, those 30-35 grams I don't think are relevant, especially since vanford's price is double the exceler, right?
@@stefanaeschlimann2454 if u don't care about the weight and extra resistance, then for sure its an outstanding reel. But weight and resistance are normally the top 2 considerations in ultralight fishing
@@ifishcatfish Text mit deiner Kamera übersetzen I have often heard that Shimano reels “made in Japan” are much better than those from China! The TP is currently $80 more expensive than the Vanford size 1000. Would you say that both wheels run equally smoothly?
Great channel my question is simple in 2000 size,Vanford or Tatula Lt. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new reel. I have a Legalis 2500. I bass fish in CA. Thank you so much for your input. Video my be needed.
Thank you very much . These days in home shopping makes it tough to be hands on till you have purchased the reel or rod and feel very lucky too have made positive purchase . I have a St Croix Victory rod. I want to put a reel in that rod that is light for shallow dropshot fishing. Thank you once again.
Exceller is a great reel, not just good. I don't think any of the reels around 200$ are a good buy. Save your money and buy exceller, or go all the way up to Twinpower and Vanquish. If you want to buy 2500 size, then Vanford is good.
You're totally correct Victor; I own 2 Vanford 2000, a 2500 and 3000 and have noticed the 2500 and 3000 have less inertia and noise than the 2000 size. I still love the 2000 because it cast's great, love the drag and it's more comfortable in hand to fish with for Trout, smaller Bass and panfish.
I was wondering what change your mind on this shimano vanquish your other video you said you didn’t like it I just wanted to know what changed your mind on this reel god bless
The current one FD. The feeling can be simulated by gently pulling outward on the handle while rotating the reel. You will not feel it unless you fish with it otherwise.
I fished my TP a lot with crappie, yellow bass and bow perch and is the smoothest reel i have ever touched. I cant replicate what u r describing. I would go to a shop and test anither reel. But it is very strange to have an issue with a Japanese made reel..
excellent question. A lot of vanfords actually have noise. If it is purely noise, there is nothing wrong with the reel and it actually feels and sounds better after a month. I would only return it if i feel something is hitting somewhere and its impacting the smoothness.. So if you can FEEL IT, then return it. If you can't feel it, but just hear noise, thats totally fine and furthermore u will never hear it on the water
@@ifishcatfish its weird. No grinding or anything but you can feel the alight scuff when noise is present. I actually just uploaded a video showing exactly whats going on. If you could take a second and watch to see what you think?
@@JBCarrera54 There is nothing wrong with your reel buddy, although you definitely got one of them noisy ones. I have one of them myself. I will tell you what to do. Stradic FL is the old Stradik FK. The Stradic name is now reserved for Aluminum body reels, and the Vanford will be used for the carbon body reels. Gears inside are same, as well as bearings. But frame and some other parts are lighter (and not as strong) in the Vanford.
Hello for saltwater sea bass which one is stradic fl 3000 vanford 3000 which one is more durable. now i am using stella fj i will sell and replace I don't need Stella anymore, I don't go often. But I want strong and durable.
Thnx for the video Victor , I have heard bad things about the Tatula but it was being compared against Daiwa Fuego LT . Have you ever tried the Daiwa Fuego LT (any size ) ?
Fuego is Legalis with seals.. A little ugly but its still a Legalis... I have never heard bad things about the Tatula... if you hear - send me a link..
@@ifishcatfish got it wrong they were talking about the Shimano Nasci vs the Tatula and the Nasci was the bad reviewed one , was not paying attention . Interesting a Legalis with seals ! I like that
Thank u for this comparison video.. absolutely amazing. I decided to buy vanford 2000 because its more lighter than 2500. But, regarding this video , the roughness issue could be the most important. Is this roughness issue for size 2000 is too big different between 2500 or its just little bit?
It's not too bad in the 2000 size, but the 2500 doesn't have any roughness at all. Also cheaper reels don't have this roughness at all, so i don't know why the vanford had to have it
@@ifishcatfish great.. i would like to ask you about how to make reel smooth like new one? I've been using for couple years.. i wanna do major service for my Soare Ci4+ 500s.. it feels rough and little bit shaky.. i've put some oil at bearing and some grace at gear.. but still not smooth..
Yes. For bass fishing you can use the 2500 vanford, which is a pretty good reel. I dont have complaints about it. But really all u need for bass fishing is a 2500 sahara. Stirdu frame and hagane gears. Best value in bass fishing is sahara. Best value in ultralight fishing is Legalis
I swapped out the stock knob on my stradic ci4+ for a gomexus livre forte knockoff knob and it got rid of a lot of the roughness. I put it down to the extra ball bearing, but, who knows maybe garbage tolerances on stock plastic knob, faulty bearings, need to investigate more? Never noticed any roughness on the stradic fk, maybe stradic fl is another smoother option, have you compared with twinpower or vanford?
I’m curious if when you spin the reel very fast and let it free spool does the reel sound like it has a dry bearing? I picked a 3000 Vanford but returned it due to a noise that I can only describe as a dry bearing when spinning the reel. It annoyed the heck out of me
all bearings are dry. What u hear is the idle oscillation gear. I think it might be plastic and the reason for all this noise and roughness. I am surprised u can hear it in a 3000 size. I don't feel nothing in my 2500 size under normal retrieve. Never spun it real fast. Doesn't matter what it does when u spin real fast, because it doesn't happen in fishing. There is some funny stuff that happens with all reels but is normal
@@ifishcatfish could hear it when retrieving at normal speeds it was weird and he tried another one that had the same issue. I’ve been using Excellers and Fuegos and this was my first higher end (for me) reel. Was curious if you had any recommendations my Exceller feels very Geary when I’m spinning the reel I’ve broken it down and lubed but still have the same feeling. Was wondering how I could tell if it was one of the handle bearing?
I have the Ci4+ in the 3000 size for bass fishing and love it. I have 2 excelers LT’s and there great for the price. Was thinking of getting the vanford also in the 2500 or 3000. So you think something around the 250 and down price range is better for Bass fishing?
No need to get vanford for bass fishing. FL is the same reel but with aliminum body instead of plastic. And its a little cheaper. FL is better for bass fishing hooksets
You mentioned tolerances when comparing the vanford handle to the ci4+.. I just got my vanford today and there is more slop in the handle than expected.... what I mean by slop is this... if you hold the rotor in place so it doesn't move, you're able to wiggle the handle back and forth (clockwise and counter clockwise) ever so slightly (I'd say about a millimeter or less).. is this what you meant and was your experience the same? It's kind of driving me nuts to be honest lol. Note: there was no slop in the handle knob.
well you shouldn't expect perfect reels when u buy these products made in Malaysia. Every reel will be a little different. Back and forth should not be possible with a good antireverse bearing but i dont know. I was talking about handle moving up and down
I'm looking to upgrade my bass reel. I currently fish the Shimano Sahara and thinking of getting the Vanford. Would you say this is a decent, noticeable upgrade?
not as much as you would think, only because sahara is an amazing reel. The only noticeable improvement is weight, as the sahara is heavy. But smoothness and resistance is, shockingly, very competitive.
Stradic FL c5000xg , vanford c5000xg and luvias 4000xg which one you recommend for heavy cover fishing? Here in Indonesia we've got all 3 the same price
sorry, don't know that rod. Try a few reels that you have to see which one balances well, then buy a reel with the same weight. Balance is most important
why kage?? Kage is old. If vanford will be compared with anything it will be with Luvias and Presso. It depends that is more important for you. I prefer Vanford because i value the low resistance and nicer line lay, but most people prefer Luvias because it feels smoother and has less issues.
Hi... nice review. I have some questions, if I want to use reel into estuary game, can you suggest me which one that I can use? I plan to use vanquish C2500SHG because of the lightness and it has a long spool... thanks
unless you fish ultralight, there is no point to spend so much money on Vanquish. But if u can afford it - its a great reel. There are too many factors involved in selecting a reel. I haven't changed my opinion on these reels since the review so u can make your choice better than anyone else can do it for you
@@ifishcatfish I understand... one question again please... In many estuaries near my home, fish isn't big and weight average fish is less than 3 lbs. I plan to use brenious rod that have length 230 cm with light rod power, PE line 0.4G - 0.8G and lure weight at 2 - 12 gr. In this case, what I suppose to use? Vanquish for the ligthness or Twin Power for more cheaper, more " salt water reel " and more stronger? Or I use vanford? I was saw all your reviews. I almost forgot to tell u, I used top water lure and soft lure with jighead...
i have a feeling that like that Twinpower, the FL won't have a roughness in the small sizes. But have never checked it. If u have a small one, let me know
There is one thing I just notice that the vanford 500 is the same size as the shimano stradic fl 1000 and the vanford 1000 looks like the 2500 just the spool is big on the stradic fl 1000 then the vanford 500
hello. great vid info about all these stradic reel. may i ask is there any different that this mode (Shimano 16 Stradic CI4+ 2500S Saltwater Spinning Reel JAPAN IMPORT)? about the one 2500 ur reviewing? best regards.
Everything that Shimano makes is on the Shimano page. Go to the real shimano page in japan. That has everything. Your country has dealer who doesnt put everything probably.
Thanks for the review. I have MC TXA-632SUL 0.5- 4 gr. rod, weight 50 gr. Could you give me an advice, which one is better for my rod (rod balance and reel properties)?
i would get Luvias 2000S for that rod. A little more resistance but smoother. And colors will look nicer. If u can't afford the Luvias, just get Exceler LT 1000.
Hi! I’m not interested in the Vanford, but a great video! How would you choose and compare the Vanquish 19 vs Certate 19 in the 2000-2500 size? Just an overall compare, probably going to buy two reels. Thank you for great videos!!
Certate is a heavy aluminum reel. It compares with Twinpower, which is also a heavy aluminum reel. Vanquish is an ultralight magnesium reel designed for ultralight trout fishing. For Saltwater or Bass fishing or anything like that with a lot of stress I recommend Certate or Twinpower - whichever you prefer. They are both great - don't tell anyone tell u one is better than the other. For finesse fishing or applications where sensitivity is important Vanquish will be best. But it is a finesse reel, don't use it to do the job of a horse.
Hi Victor! Based on your opinion I'll take the decisin to bought Vanquish instead of Vanford... Actually I got Sephia c3000s and Stradic 2500 FL...Cheers from Poland Bro!
which size? If 2000 or smaller, and u really want the best - Vanquish has no equal. In the bigger sizes the Vanford is not so bad, although some comments below told me they hear noises in their bigger vanfords too..
Hi Victor. I love your videos, words you use when describing things, even your accent I like it. Great job man, really appreciate what you are doing. I need an advice for 1000 size reels. I like opening and servicing my reels. No Mag Seal (already ruined my Ballistic LT , not easy to realign and center the magseal area , if you drop/mix standard oil again its over) I have Stradic FL's , very smooth, strong, low inertia & low resistance with 45mm handle. 185 gr weight. But then I had 3000 size Vanford, its perfect for its money and just 180 gr. Now my 1000 size stradic fl's feel damn heavy, I regret that I bought the Vanford. Because all the other reels I have , now feels too heavy. Its just habits/practices, but unfortunately my brain once detected it and get used to it very quickly. Now I need 1000 size reels less than 160 gr. , low inertia, low resistance, just easy to turn and stop. I haven't tested the small size Vanford yet, and I dont want to give 2 reels money to a single Vanquish. What do you think If I buy Vanford C2000S, replace the handle with 45mm, open it and put some light oil on the existing grease? Does it make a difference over that roughness you mentioned ? I will not replace any bushings or add extra bearings. You already did it, did it made a difference with 2000 size ?
grease will not change roughness. Its from the plastic idle gears, i believe. Big handle will help for sure. Strangely i can't recommend any reels in the 200$ range. They all have issues. The Daiwa Reels in that range are smooth but have resistance. Shimano has less resistance, but has this damn roughness. Neither is a big deal, but after spending 200$ on a reel small things can bother you
spool size, gear ratio and lenght of handle. It is not a good idea to ask such questions on the internet. Shimano posts these stats on their website. Always better to get facts straight from Shimano
not as good as legalis? I said that? Timestamp please.. When it comes to size 2000 neither Luvias nor Vanford are much better than Legalis. One has too much resistance and the other has some roughness. But 'not as good as legalis'..
@@ifishcatfish thats what i meant friend, that luvias is not better then legalis from the feeling, what do you think about the stradic ci4? i think its better then the luvias too have a great day
maybe... but i doubt it. Then don't make changes to production models. They make the changes in the next models. It's not that bad... if you are coming from cheaper reels you will not even notice it.
Nippon quality. Reason why us photographers will not take lenses made in Malaysia or Thailand for high end lenses. And I used to spec my cars with the vin starting with a J.
I doubt whether to buy Vanford or Stradic. What you recommend? I care about such traits: resiliance, price and also wether Vanford will have much better cast abilities than Stradic. Thanks a lot! - sorry for my English)
Good review, Victor. Glad to see a comparison across the board. I agree with you about the slight roughness in the 1000 size Stradic CI4+. I have two and they both have this slight roughness to them. But i had a 2500 size CI4+ and it was one of the smoothest reels, i had ever used. I have two stradic FL 1000 size and the roughness is missing from those as well. Maybe its the aluminum body that deadens the vibrations. Waiting on my Vanford 1000 to come in so i can make my own comparisons.
@@ifishcatfish I will probably pick up a 1000 size also. I will try to get the 5 gear ratio from overseas. It looks like an interesting reel. I hate it that shimano always puts the shorter handles on the 5 gear ratio reels.
Also what I really wonder is, after you fish with Vanquish, then the next time you are able to switch to Legalis. Really interesting. I know from many videos of yours, you really like the Legalis, but I really dont understand how you are able do this switching :)
I dont do much switching the same day. Some days i fish with the cheap reels and most days with the high end. But Legalis doesn't leave much aftertaste even after Vanquish. I will tell you that Legalis 1000 is a smoother reel than Vanford 2000. Even resistance is similar. Only weight is a big down. And i dont like drag sound, but most people dont care for that
Drag sound not a problem. But weight is a lot. I think I will buy the Vanford. I like having more reels in the same family. Spools and handles all interchangable. Vanford and Stradic FL fits each other. I will have hybrid reels 😁
You are the reason I went out and bought a daiwa legalis 1000 for trout fishing! Thanks for the very informative reviews!! P.s. have you ever fished the Shimano Soare reel? I here good things about from other channels, however I would like your opinion.
Listening to your many evaluations it sounds that you would be just as happy with the your Legalis as any of the others no matter what the reel's cost. The rod and to some extent the line seem to be the most important parts of the fishing triad.
Nothing bothers me in Legalis because it costs $50. For price its perfect. Vanquish is also perfect. Expensive but perfect. Daiwa Presso Limited is also perfect. Expensive but perfect. This year SHimano and Daiwa released Luvias and Vanford, that are expensive but have serious flaws.. One has resistance, one is rough in the small sizes, that I use the most. It's all relative. If the Vanford cost $50, i would like it more than the Legalis..
2000 and 1000 is the same reel, in case u don't know, only spool is 2mm more in diameter. Doesn't matter much. But if u fish monofilament of fluorocarbon or polyester line, like I do, the bigger spool helps with line management, your line is not so curly. If u use braid, you don't need 2000 spool as it has no memory
@@ifishcatfish I didn't know that. When you talked about the pairing the 2000 with the Abu Garcia Eradicator rod, which length were you referring to? I like a 7' length for my UL crappie rods to get a little more casting distance. Would the 2000 balance well with the 610LS (6'10") Eradicator?
@@ifishcatfish Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it. So are you saying the reel will balance with the 6' 10" rod as well as the shorter and longer Eradicator rods? I suppose they'd move the reel seat up or down to maintain the same balancing point. Correct? I hadn't heard of those rods before you mentioned it. I'm looking to pick up a 2000 Vangard to replace my classic Diawa SS Tournament real that's sitting on a G Loomis IMX SR842-2 / 7' light fast action (love that rod for crappie fishing. it's like butter in your hands). If the Eradicator is a legit rod, perhaps I'lll pick up a second 2000 and the 6 10'.
These rods are so light that balance doesnt even matter. U have to put the lightest reel you can regardless of the balance. U cant have a 50 gram rod and slam some big ole heavy reel on it because of balance. This rod weighs half of your gloomis and is 3 times more sensitive and it requires the absolutely lightest reel u can afford and stop worrying about balance

Nasci is one of the first and most successful reviews i have done on this channel. It is definitely smoother than the new Vanford. It also has a locomotive oscillation, and doesn't have that particular gear that i think is causing the roughness. The only issue with Nasci is it is very heavy..

Favorite part is that you have all these super high end reels but use the Daiwa Legalis most. That says a lot. Is the Legalis your best reel under $100?
Victor, thank you for all the information you share here. It’s appreciated friend.
Enjoyed it 🙌🏽🎣
Well articulated, Coza. 👍

A very well covered review as always.
For me the Vanford is a Stradic FL on a Ci4 body that has Mgl rotor hence why it feels smoother than the old Stradic Ci4 and as what you mentioned it also has less handle slop compared to the Ci4
I dont have the FL but i think the small sizes of FL dont have the roughness
@@ifishcatfish I just converted a 1000 HGFL Stradic to 12+1 BB (Stella like reel) and I find it much smoother than it was. No grease on the oscillating gear. I also did a C3000HGFL to 12+1 and it is really smooth. The Stradic FL is an unbelievably versatile machine
I just got into ultralight fishing. Your videos are the only in depth videos. I ordered a dobyns sierra 6’2 ultralight and I’m looking for a good reel for it. Great job Victor. Another quality in-depth review. My favorite spinning reel currently is the Daiwa Ballistic. Maybe I’ll give the Shimano Vanford a try for next season.

I fish trouts in saltwater :) Ive seen your vid about vanford in 2000 size :(
I hope you have some thoughts.

Do you think Shimanos X-protect is as good as Daiwas Magseal?
good for what? Magseal may offer more complete protection, but you have some friction, even if it is with a liquid.
What reel and size do you recommend for ultralight fishing in the under $250 price point? Vanford 2000? Thanks
What about the Stradic fl? I’m torn between the fl1000 and the vanford 1000. I mainly fish small streams and medium rivers for trout. The main difference I see is the gear ratio between the two and the new rotor in the vanford but which should I get?
Well one is aluminum one is magnesium. Clutch is different. Resistance much different. One is a bass reel and one is a trout reel. Both good, but FL is made for strength, and Vanford for finesse

when u fish with only one reel your sensitivity adopts to it. You have to cast with them back to back and you will feel the grit in the 2000 even more than when idle. When retrieving a fish the 2500 stays smooth, and the 2000 grit becomes even more noticeable. In my observations

If u cast jig heads stay with low gear ratio models, no more than 5.6:1
@@ifishcatfish I would consider it high end above 300 USD. Thanks for explaining the above, I will lean towards the 2000 size 👍🏼
for those who considering buy a vanford: not every vanford is the same in terms of reeling noise. if you can, pls try it before buy it, if not, return it if you hear excessive noise
noise may vary, but the grinding sandy feeling in the gears of the 2000 size will always be there. Then to make it super complicated, the 500 size does NOT have the grinding feeling, because they removed the oscillation worm for the small size, and used locomotive oscillation. Yes I thought it was strange too, the shop only had one reel so I have nothing to compare it too.
Is the rasp noise in the vanford an issue or should i just suck it up and fish it?
excellent question. A lot of vanfords actually have noise. If it is purely noise, there is nothing wrong with the reel and it actually feels and sounds better after a month.

Thank you, your content is very appreciated.
@@ifishcatfish Thank you. Appreciate you always taking the time to respond.
Stradic FL c5000xg , vanford c5000xg and luvias 4000xg which one you recommend for heavy cover fishing? Here in Indonesia we've got all 3 the same price
Vanford. but i dont recommend XG for geavy cover. Get some low gear ratio for heavy cover
Thankyou
I just got a megabsss whipsnake. Which would be best reel around the 200-250 price usd
sorry, don't know that rod. Try a few reels that you have to see which one balances well, then buy a reel with the same weight. Balance is most important
Do you have any of the higher end reels to compare with like exist or stella?
No. U wana send me one?

KAGE (tatula) 1000
or
Vanford1000?
Things to consider for both
*Sexier
*Price
*Feel
*Quality
why kage?? Kage is old. If vanford will be compared with anything it will be with Luvias and Presso. It depends that is more important for you. I prefer Vanford because i value the low resistance and nicer line lay, but most people prefer Luvias because it feels smoother and has less issues.
Have you compared any of the soares to these?
Soares is a Stradic CI4+ with a couple completely irrelevant cosmetic differences
Hi... nice review.

There is one thing I just notice that the vanford 500 is the same size as the shimano stradic fl 1000 and the vanford 1000 looks like the 2500 just the spool is big on the stradic fl 1000 then the vanford 500

Everything that Shimano makes is on the Shimano page. Go to the real shimano page in japan. That has everything. Your country has dealer who doesnt put everything probably.
I'm between vanford 4000mhg and ballistic lt 4000 (2018) fishing in Mediterranean for all type of fish.. What would you recommend?
Vanford. Twinpower best
Advice about cranckning power, power of pulling, which reel can pull bigger fish in standing still position, good channel good vid, good luck 🤞
i am ultralight angler.. You probably want stradic FL or something else with aluminum frame for that
Thanks for the review.
@@ifishcatfish Thanks a lot!
What 2500 size spinning reel would you recommend for fish like bass and walleye, somewhere around $100-$150? Thanks
Shimano Sahara for $70. Amazing reel. Smoother than the Vanford. Just heavier. If you want lighter, look for deals on Daiwa Tatula, at around $150.
But it is a finesse reel, don't use it to do the job of a horse.
do you have any experience with the 2012 Shimano Vanquish ? its an old model but maybe you have fished with it
No. I don't recommend it though. It was a great reel back in the day, but you can buy Vanford today and it will be better than the old 2012 vanquish
@@ifishcatfish thank you very much you are the best
hi i can buy ultegra fc 2000 and vanford 2000 shg i the same price whats your opinion.... i will be fishing only perch 5-10 gr lures

Hi Victor. I love your videos, words you use when describing things, even your accent I like it.
Great job man, really appreciate what you are doing.
I need an advice for 1000 size reels.
I like opening and servicing my reels.
No Mag Seal (already ruined my Ballistic LT , not easy to realign and center the magseal area , if you drop/mix standard oil again its over)
I have Stradic FL's , very smooth, strong, low inertia & low resistance with 45mm handle.
Neither is a big deal, but after spending 200$ on a reel small things can bother you
Ok so I have to find a small Vanford in a store, test/play with it as much as possible, then decide if it really bothers.
in size 2500, which i should buy ? ballistic lt or vanford ? i fishing for bass and breamfish, thank you
Vanford.
What is the difference between the twin power c2000s and the 1000fd ?
spool size, gear ratio and lenght of handle. It is not a good idea to ask such questions on the internet. Shimano posts these stats on their website. Always better to get facts straight from Shimano
@@ifishcatfish which gear ratio is good for either luring or bottom fishing? For spinning reels thanks
Bro but last time you said the Luvias is not as good as Legalis?
How can you compare it then to an Stradic
not as good as legalis? I said that? Timestamp please..
When it comes to size 2000 neither Luvias nor Vanford are much better than Legalis. One has too much resistance and the other has some roughness. But 'not as good as legalis'..

@@ifishcatfish hey I just got the Nasci 500, it's a piece of shit, heavy resistance reeling in a lure is like reeling in a fish, stupid.
Just bought Vanford 2000, maybe Shimano fixed that raspy sound as my 2 ci4 had it also, as this reel is bought 10 months lateri is butter quiet.
maybe... but i doubt it.
Nippon is good.

Yeah, i cannot figure why the roughness is missing from the 2500 sizes across the board.. Let me know what u find.. : )
i am buying the 1000 size Ultegra 2021 just to see if it also has the roughness
I subscriber sent me this last year: Shimano 17 Soare Ci4+ C2000SS PG. It had the exact same roughness mentioned in this video.
Where did you buy your vanquish ?
Japan. The low gear ratio models are not sold here. Plat, i believe
Is the fl, ci4 + and vanford worth the upgrade over the older ci4?
Yes, the older CI4 has heavy rotation. The Vanford is actually good, if u go for bigger size.

Put your ear on the foot of the reel and spin it to listen to the bearings inside of it
u can feel it ... dont even need ears
Do you prefer the 2000 sized reels over 1000 for crappie?
2000 and 1000 have same weight, for the reasons above..
