Your criticism of preset choices is 100% spot-on. With gazillions of hardware and software bass products being pumped out by the industry every day, we need less confusion and more focus on practicality. Maybe Zoom and other manufacturers should reign their marketing depts. a little bit and consult more to working bass players like you. Vielen Dank für die Bewertung

Excellent observation, there are many things perhaps too many that are of little use and unused, but from what I see it is a general mistake of all

Just ordered one! I was giving up on finding a unit that had just the right balance of features and simplicity and then found this today! I tried a Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig V2, but I just didn't click with it. This was the ONLY in depth review I could find and it was super helpful. Thanks!

Really great review and I agree with you regarding the presets. I have the B1 Four and it has 40 built in presets. They are organized as 10-20 Clean, 21-30 Drive, 31-40 various effects, 41-50 amp sims. I looked through the presets for the B2 Four and most of those songs I just don't know, making them difficult to figure out without going through each one. For now, I'll keep my B1 Four.

hey, i once bought a b3n to experiment with. I was surprised. Meanwhile I also have a b6. there is a great temptation to also purchase this b2 four. Zoom is good, price quality is ok. I never use the factory patches. Always find your own tone. Greetings, Jeroen.

Most of Zoom's combos are really odd for their pre sets. Makes a bassist really try different things to get something musical out of each pre set. Their Compression is really good as well as the phaser/envelope, they use to have great distortion, but a lot of the pre sets are more just the dirt distortion, which works nicely for many things. I used their older 9.01 and have their new B6. Sound is much cleaner with their newer models. A Helix perhaps? Lots more cash. Better to learn to program what is there. Drums and looping are improved and some improvement with user interfaces. I liked the old Digitech Bx3, but it had many issues but great pre sets. Great seeing Alex playing for the product review. You guys are great!

Thanks for the review. I own the unit and what is realla annoying is the way the menu works. If you want to change parameters the parameter page jumps back to the preset page after 3 seconds, hoping for a firmware update. It would have been great if you said something about the quality of the effects and / or demonstrated some of them.

  • @SG-dw1my
    @SG-dw1my Год назад +9

Adding to your criticism, they really made a mistake filling all 250 patches to sound like songs I've never heard of nor want to emulate. Why abandon patches from previous models? I want patches to feature effects and amps. With the previous model, out of the box, there were several very usable patches, some needing only minor adjustments. With this, I'd delete ALL patches and start from scratch. I notice they also did not include speaker cab sims from previous models. There is only built in sims for the amp sims. You can't specify 1x15, 8x10, etc. No IR loading either. And please, Zoom, no one uses the Bomber effect.

If this one is like my older b1x four, you can make your own patches easily and redo the order of them all so the 5 you use can be in order. It also looks like the tuner is still there as well so it can cover that duty as well.

I feel Zoom products are great for dipping your toes on bass effects. I've had a B2.1u for about 10 years and has served me well, but I wasn't a fan of its amp and drive sounds, so I paired it with a SansAmp clone and a separate compressor.

    • @BassRacerx

yeah just pick one of these up and start gigging 99.999 percent of your audience won't be able to tell the difference between something like this and more expensive options. build your dream vintage/boutique pedalboard over time and if you are an actual pro you can spend all the cash on whatever discrete pedals you want.

  • @asfodhell

    Nice !
I kinda feel like it lacks an FX loop ...
I use two ZOOM B1 Four pedals. The first one has Noisegate, Compressor with optional EQ, Pitch Shifter etc ...
Then a Behringer BDi21 for its great preamp sound and pre-amp DI.
The second B1 Four has an Exciter, Overdrive and Amp + Cab.
All of this goes into a Behringer GDi21 that does the job for some guitars and has a DI out so I can send the signal to the USB mixer and real amps.
Everytime I record something, I have a post and pre amp track, very useful when I feel like my amp and cab choice is not appropriate.
From what I seen in the videos about the new Zoom G2 Four, menus seem less user-friendly than the previous gen. If you want to use the looper and/or drums, for exemple.
But it's really nice these new ones can have a proper pedalboard mode where there's up to 3 dedicated footswitches for 3 "pedals".
Having to Mod the old ones (A1/G1/B1 Four) with 5 external temporary switches is not ideal.

Love the sounds of this pedal. It's got some great effects. I'm not crazy about the UI. I don't understand why they don't show the patch names until after you've selected that patch. How am I supposed to remember what patch 274 is? And I'm not a fan of the directional arrows. They aren't big enough for me to control with my feet. But they are nice and large and easy to use by hand when making quick adjustments on stage.

Following your demo I bought one to use with my Yamaha BBP34. There is a 1073 preamp simulation in it and I use it for recording direct. As you do insist in several of your videos about the value to record with a 1073 on the signal path, do you think this one has some similarities with the real thing ?
