Thank you for watching!
Sheryl and Paul
Good morning , I just have to say I used to watch you guys on the TV many moons ago with total wonder ,
I am sure you were part of the reason I have a little boat .
I have now found you guys again and in these very troubled times ( with C19) you are a total breath of fresh air .
Many thanks and keep safe and well where ever you are .
Regards Russ
Thanks very much Russell 😊😍 you stay safe too! ❤️
Terrific sail. Loved watching the entrance to Dover, as I just recently did it also (into the same marina!). I really love the retractable keel. That was impressive, but scary, watching you with that beautiful new boat on the sand bar. It would take me a while to get used to doing that. Wonderful filming and narrative.
Beauty boat - and the Tilley too! How fantastic to get the white cliffs AND the Belem under sail in one day :)
very nice view great sailing boat n pretty.
You guys are the original Sailing Vlogs rock stars ! Congrats on your new boat, she's a beauty. It's quite refreshing to see cruising in a non-Caribbean type setting. With so much culture and tradition around who needs blue water.
I recently wrote a blog titled "London Calling: Cruise Ships on the Thames", so when I found this video during a Google Search, I couldn't resist watching, especially since I love sailing. I do a little hobie cat sailing of my own.
This is a great vlog! Frankly, I'd much rather sail up the Thames this way than on a cruise ship. I've never sailed on one as small as yours. All of the scuba dive liveaboards I sailed on when closer to the size of the 3-masted barque, "Belem", of France you past in time frame 4:57.
I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to following your sea adventures. Best wishes and smooth sailing.
Welcome aboard Glam and thanks for subscribing! We did pass a cruise ship up in London and imagine it would also be a fun trip.
Cheers! Paul
i belong to a yacht club along the thames. I have a much smaller (and older) boat, a Jeanneau sundream 28
Another beaut of a video. We get a great flavour of your new boat
I used to live alongside St. Katherine's Dock and walk to work over Tower Bridge. Brilliant area, great to see from the riverside point of view! Very nostalgic for me.
Lol! Those structures at the beginning put me in mind of a Star Wars movie!
What a lovely film. I really enjoyed it, thank you.
Our pleasure!
Got chills when the Tower Bridge appeared in the background. So cool :)
Us too Jennifer!!
The sails look amazing.
looking forward to all your new videos with the new boat. What a Beautiful Yacht. Can't wait till an tour of the interior and mechanical systems.
How amazing! Watching your adventures really solidifies that our next boat will have a lifting keep. The places you get to see so close up are truly amazing!
What an absolutely beautiful vessel. ⛵️👍
Pretty easy to tell from the big smiles how much you're looking forward to the coming adventures. Hope you don't mind the Stowaway hiding in the chain locker. 🇱🇷
The new ship is breathtaking !
Thanks Cliff :-)
What a fantastic way to arrive in London
London looked crazy!!!
Wow, Paul and Sheryl, very many congratulations on the new boat, she looks beautiful! 👍 Sailing into central London is a dream of ours as Rossella and I met there 13 years ago (on the dance floor of a club in Leicester Square!). To go back there now on our boat with our baby would be a very special experience indeed. We wish you the very best of luck on this next chapter of yours. Fair winds! Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊
Thanks guys! Glad you liked the video. We wish you the best luck with your cruising plans and hope you get to London someday. There is a fair bit of current in the river so tide planning is important. With Distant Shores III we can motor at 8 knots so it wasn't so much of an issue. Cheers!
Enjoyed the new format
Another great video... i Love your new boat. ⛵
This video was great. I had stopped watching your channel but will start again now - shotsand commentary is entertaining and informative. Thank you for sharing.
Welcome back Barry👍
I love it that the marina can ask what draft you are and you can reply, 'what draft would you like' - and then just dial it in. And you even managed to make Margate sands look good - although the seals do help.
Nice to see the green bouy on the port side as you were leaving. I'm sure that stuffs many people. Enjoy your new boat.
Congratulations! She’s beautiful. Well done. Fair winds and following seas.
Splendid journey! Great travel episode. The South Coast is immensely beautiful. Did you know that to this day it is still littered with properties built with Spanish and French money? Not willingly, though :) Corsairs with a license from the king got it and built here.
Your right it seems like the best way to visit London.
Thanks for sharing.
What a super cruising vessel and a beautiful home on the sea.....
Thanks Ed - we're loving her!
Great video! As an ex-Londoner (escaped to Sydney!) I am glad London treated you well with weather and seals. Can be a bit bleak in the estuary if the weather is 'normal'. ;-)
Ahhh! Your sailing our stoping grounds! Fair winds,. Sail safe! Ant & Cid xx
Thanks guys 😎 we did enjoy stomping around there!
Loved the video. I've only been to England and the Thames one time but I remember the amount of commercial traffic in the area you sailed was intense. You made it look easy. I need to get back again some day soon.
Thanks great video so good to see you back on the water looking forward to the new voyages you will takes us all along
Wow, thanks for bringing us along. Was just in London a few months back, your perspective was amazing. just keep sailing.
Thanks for coming along David :-) glad you enjoyed it.
Beautifully filmed! The south coast looking its best - great!
Yes. I was in awe watching. It is immensely beautiful.
Great to be back sailing, nice video and i did appreciate the tour, aloha!!
Fantastic. Gorgeous yacht. A little bit of of my home waters👍👍👍 I have plans to sail the Thames and spend the weekend in St Katherine’s Dock. 👍👍👍 looking forward to seeing your worldwide adventures in the new yacht. 😎
Beautiful Yacht. You guys seem happy to be back on the water. We are all looking forward to new adventures.
Always love your videos! One of the most beautiful sailboats I have seen.
Absolutely love your videos, and you both. Will definitely be along for the ride in the future. P.s. beautiful yacht.
stunning yacht
Looks beautiful
Well this is just a dream ❤
Another outstanding video!
Thanks Joseph 😊❤️
Wow ....Too cool Guys that was one amazing RUclips video ....Man the boat looks great. About 6months and counting :)
Thanks I'm glad you liked it Darryl!! And yes we're also really excited to get out cruising :-)
Excellent video, love the mix of history and sailing 👌🏼
Thanks great video
My home town. I live in Greenwich and I hope you enjoyed your stay. Lovely weather too
Thanks Tracey. We loved our stay in London and the weather was great. We were only briefly in Greenwich passing through although we did a couple of passes so our friend could get the drone shots. Wished we had time to visit your town properly!
I spent time in St. Katherine's Dock back in the 70,s working on a Dutch Eel barge conversion. A great place to bace from when seeing London.
Whoa cool to have seen it in the 70's, but I suppose many things were similar! It is indeed a great base.
What a great video thanks again
The retractable keel is really handy in those tide waters!
Very nice. Thanks!
Great update! One of these days when you two cross into the Pacific we'll have to meet up at the islands.
Just became member of your channel, the videos are so good!
great video!
Love the passes by Greenwich (I'm East. I'm West. I'm East.")! Looking forward to learning more about your impressions of the new boat as the miles roll by. What happened to the solar arch?
Nice episode. Leaned a few things. Tks
That is cool.
The Thames River Forts remind me of the Martian Tripods from H.G. Wells's novel " War Of The Worlds ".
Only they carry a spare leg.
Wow beautiful boat , at 10.35 on your video you have the “the shard” tower in the background very appropriate don’t you think !
Great Video! I can´t wait for the Atlantic-crossing and videos from the Caribbean. Have you already planned when you want to go across the Atlantic?
saw you leave Lymington today (4th june 2018). Nice thing to have: a bowprop ;-)
very good
Great boat and video. Can you open a little of the finances of the boat? Do you have some kind of sponsorship with Southerly, how much savings did you have and did you get a mortgage etc? Thanks!
Sailed from Brighton to Thorney Island today and went right past you anchored up; Distant Shores III is a very fine looking vessel indeed...! Will you be around for much longer on the south coast?
Thanks!! That anchorage is quite nice❤️ We’re off to Poole then Falmouth and the West for a few days then I think we will be off to the Channel Islands 🌴
Great video! So why do they call it the Temms River when it is spelled Thames? Seem like I'm a year late. But better late than never. : - ) Scott W
The Thames, from Middle English Temese, is derived from the Brittonic Celtic name for the river, Tamesas (from *tamēssa), recorded in Latin as Tamesis and yielding modern Welsh Tafwys "Thames".
@@tomriley5790 This is very interesting to me since my ancestors were from England and Wales! Thanks for the explanation.
Great video of the arrival in London. One off topic question: your hats, are they the Tilley air flo? Thanks for posting 😊
😊 Thanks Jesper! and yes they're Tilley (Air-Flo model I think)
Another great episode :) The in-mast furling main looks very slick. Was it as exciting to hit London by water as it was when you visited Paris via the canals? Cheers from come-on-summer PEI, Bryan.
Thanks Formerly! We're getting quite attached to the in mast furling. It was indeed a huge thrill entering London, but France was truly fascinating - perhaps because we had our mast down and were going right on through the city :-)
Great episode. Just curious why you chose your engine and bow truster controls on your port side or did you have no choice.? Is your lifting keel electric .??
Nice! 😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sorry guys ,Hit the wrong button before saying this was an excellent video, great entertainment . Thanks
Thanks for the ride along! At 9:40 she looks heavy in the bow. Why do you think that is?
Thought so too, where are the fuel tanks located on the yacht?
Interesting observation Mark. I hadn't noticed it but now I see what you mean. FYI the tanks - both fuel and water are all located under the saloon right centrally as is the battery bank. We are having a stern solar arch made (its late inexplicably delayed) which might level her up a bit...
Elsuntan, I was wondering the same thing after they filled their fuel tanks. I was wondering if the water tanks were empty and perhaps they would offset the fuel tank weight when full. It's just always best to have all of the heavy stuff as low and centered as and when possible to add to the keel effect. Then even empty or full or half full would not matter when it came to boat weight trimming. Imagine full fuel tanks in the bow and empty water tanks in the stern,,, bummer for sure. Anyway, I am sure their new yacht has it all dialed in for sure! All of the stuff is just not onboard and positioned to it's proper place yet.
Where is the Canadian ensign or is she not a Canadian boat?
Is she configured for a single hand passage?
Did you tell us who the 3rd crew member was?
Beautiful boat, can they design or convert a boat for disabled people in a wheelchair or is there to many work to be done by hand?
🥰🤗
Hi Sheryl and Paul,
What i noticed on your new boat is, you have cahnged your anchor from Rocna to Ultra.
Were not you pleased with Rocna ?
Now i have an Ultra 27kg for my Jeanneau DS 49, and i am about to sell it for a new Rocna 33kg.
May i ask why have you made this change ?
I liked the Rocna but wanted to try out the ultra since it doesn’t have the rollbar. For our 48 I have the an Ultra 35 rather than the 27. But we can definitely say the Rocna 33 is a fine anchor and the right size for 49.
Thank you fot the info.
All the best with your new boat.
What yr, make, and model?
A bottle of prosecco is the least they can give you if you pump a months wage into the tanks sheesh. 664l. That probably was like a grand just in fuel. Expensive expensive.
A barquentine, no?
What are these fancy life jackets you're wearing?
I have to talk fast when identifying ourselves when flying. I have to slow down. Thanks
I love it . Nobody sails England, Probably because in the 1800's we blew boats like Belem out of the water
1000€ bottle of wine
Sweet. Sailing into London you should have made at least a 30 minute video. lol. Just saying.
Not British way
Lol! Those structures at the beginning put me in mind of a Star Wars movie!
Great boat and video. Can you open a little of the finances of the boat? Do you have some kind of sponsorship with Southerly, how much savings did you have and did you get a mortgage etc? Thanks!
