    Fun draft year! My list:
    1. Teemu Selanne - Really hard to ignore 684 goals and his amazing performance in his later years.
    2. Mark Recchi - Insanely long career and was good at advanced age. Also scored 110+points twice.
    3. Mike Modano - Best Dallas Star of all-time and one of the greatest American players of all-time.
    4. Rod Brind'Amour - Not only had solid offense, but ended up winning two Selke trophies later on with the Hurricanes.
    5. Jeremy Roenick - Scored 50+ goals twice and 20+ goals thirteen times.
    6. Rob Blake - Won the Norris in 1997-98 and finished third in two other seasons.
    7. Alex Mogilny - Insane 1992-93 season with 76 goals in 77 games. Also one of two Canucks to score 50+ goals in a season.
    8. Tony Amonte - Eight seasons of 30+ goals, six of them in a row.
    9. Trevor Linden - "Captain Canuck" was a beloved leader in Vancouver for many years and scored 30+ goals six times.
    10. Dmitri Khristich - Steady top six forward for about 10 years. One of Ukraine's all-time best players.
    11. Martin Gelinas - Known for scoring goals at clutch moments, Gelinas played well for many teams throughout his career.
    12. Joe Juneau - One of the best teenagers in NHL history, Juneau cooled off after that, but still had a respectable career.
    13. Bret Hedican - Long career as a steady defenseman for over 1000 games.
    14. Valeri Kamensky - Didn't get as much attention on a star-studded Avalanche team, but could score a point-per-game at his best during the dead puck era.
    15. Sean Hill - Long, albeit injury-plagued career. Hill provided surprising offense from the blue line even into his 30s.
    16. Tie Domi - One of the most well-known fighters of his time, Domi amassed 3515 PIM. He also scored 20+ points five times.
    17. Stephane Fiset - The best netminder of the 1988 draft, Fiset was a solid goalie for the Kings for several years in the later 90s and early 00s.
    18. Keith Carney - Almost the definition of a journeyman defenseman, Keith Carney was a reliable defender for many years, playing over 1000 games.
    19. Curtis Leschyshyn - Another long career for a solidly-built defender that lasted over 1000 games.
    20. Marty McInnis - Career ended earlier than most, but McInnis was a solid middle six forward for several teams in the 90s and early 00s.
    21. Steve Heize - Heinze 57 (he would wear 57 later in his career) played mostly a third line role, but did have some scoring, potting 20+ goals three times.
Other names: Claude Lapointe, Keith Jones

The era that got me into NHL hockey.... star studded for sure, Alexander Mogilny was always my favorite player. That guy should absolutely be in the hall of , I have so many of his hockey cards.

Selänne should definitely have been taken over Modano here. Selänne scored more goals and more points in less games than Modano did. Both also won one Stanley Cup. Selänne also has a much more formiddable international career. Selänne had more 100+ point seasons than Modano did.
So yeah, Selänne being the number 1 pick here should have been a clear choice.

I agree with the hockey guy... Though it would have been a more exciting brand of hockey... I don't think they would have gotten to the finals if they had Selanne in place of Linden who carried them! 2-way centers is what you can build a winning team around- two of them will push you over the top... Goal scoring wingers are all nice and exciting... But they don't tend to bring cups for your team unless they come with a top center- or two!

I genuinely believe, this is the order the draft would go in my opinion. To me its funny he has to do it. I really don't see what he has to gain by putting players on teams he would want. We can all fantasize about "what if" certain players had played on our teams, but unless it happens in the future (aka McDavid and Bedard both going to Detroit - yeah let me fantasize!) then it doesn't matter.

You're one year off. Let's see the '89 redraft... you know the one that made the Wings so good.

Having Selanne would’ve been amazing, but I’m going to say the Canucks do not go on that ‘94 run. Linden really was the heart and soul of that team.
Edit: THG is right about his offence. People forget he had multiple 30-goal seasons.

No denying Liden's passion....but Bure and Selanne? That's basically 100 goals a year right there. Maybe 120 in a good year. And people forget, Teemu and Pavel were both pretty involved players. Both of them showed a lot of heart.
Wasn't Linden that KO'd Shane Churla, who was no wallflower.
      Pretty scary stuff.

I'd rather put Zdeno Ciger to the first round than Tim Taylor.

I think you couldn‘t go wrong with the first 8 players on that list. I would have swapped Modano and Selanne, Roenick and Rod and Mogilny and Linden. But actually you would have been happy with any of those first 8 playera, imho.

    Teemu #1

I would take Selanne over Modano. I think Selanne was a better skater and a better pure goal scorer who was just as if not more valuable to the teams he played for. He finished with more goals and points in less games than Modano did, even though they're pretty comparable.
That being said, they are definitely one and two from their draft year, and it's a very reasonable debate who had the better career.

"I'm not a Marvel Super Villain" Modano #1 begs to differ sir. Arguably it could be said he's not even top 5. I would say he's not top 3. 1. Selanne 2. Recchi 3. Mogilny

      @LETZ GO 2023 NHL draft
I'd say the only major upside Modano has over Recchi is that he's a Center. Mogilny, was outproducing even Teemu in terms of both Goals, and Points per Game, not by much but he was.

As a Kings fan i do not approve, not having Blake means a ton to this organization. Even to this day.
