- It certainly makes narrowboating easier when you can share the work! We are on an epic 160 mile narrowboat journey, travelling to the Crick Boat Show on Narrowboat One Day More with Paul and Anthony on Narrowboat Morning Star from RUclips channel @NarrowboatLifeUnlocked. In this episode we leave Mercia Marina and head east on the Trent & Mersey Canal to Shardlow. And big thanks to @nbspudley and @MakingNewMemories for the recommendation of the most perfect mooring spot right on the doorstep of the Clock Warehouse Pub in Shardlow!
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

Another lovely vid. Good to see those shining mushrooms. I used to love sitting on the roof with a tin of Brasso dubbin and getting our brass mushrooms gleaming. Top tip : stretch some cling film over them if you are expecting naff weather. It helps protect them a little.

Hi Bob, yes it is one of the challenges that we make work, for the convenience of having a car. With Pete still working from the boat, and needing to travel quite a bit, it’s something we need to hang on to for a while. We either move the car forward to where to know we are cruising to, or we go back and get the car if we are not exactly sure where we will be heading. I tend to go and pick up the car by bus or train while Pete is working, and it’s just sort of the adventure really! If it’s close enough to walk or bike ride back we have done that too. This would make a good topic for a video! I will add it to the list. Thank you SO much for supporting our channel. We have just bought some high quality lapel mics thanks to the generosity of our viewers, which you will be seeing on the vlogs soon 😊

I just love them. They were quiet for a while but they have recently reformed which makes me very happy. This world needs lovely, gentle music.
I have just been listening to them on RUclips and you’re right, their sound is so similar to some of the tracks I use in our videos! Infact I searched them on Epidemic Sound, which is the music library I subscribe to for our channel, and although their music isn’t on there it suggested similar artists, which are the ones you have heard in our videos! We had the best time travelling with the boys Irene, as you’ve been able to see! And even though we are not with them now, we’ve still been driving to see each other to get our fix of fun and for Dexter to see his bestie Hamish 😂❤️

Thank you, that’s lovely to hear! The footage is from May 2023 but I’ve only just edited and uploaded the video. I got very behind as I had to take a break last year when my dad was sick until his passing, and now I’m doing my best to catch up on it all 😊

It has to be the lemon drizzle cake Eric! You just can’t beat it! Our waistlines don’t agree with me trying to bake all the recipes though! Did you see that Vic and Jo are moving back onto Zero after deciding that life on land wasn’t for them?! Good news to have them back in the waterways! There are quite a few double locks around the network which are perfect when you are travelling with friends. Some of the locks when we went on the Trent can hold at least 10 boats if not more! Wait until you see Hamish in the next vlog I’m editing! He’s so funny just wanting to hang out with Dexter all the time, instead of his annoying sister Poppy! 😂

Obviously Hamish and Dexter are two gentlemen of respectable age and need some quiet time to discuss serious stuff like the lack of proper rooftop residences when cruising the canals! Thank you for the video. Getting ready for Easter - the 'boss' sent me out to buy supplies for desert. So was a good short rest and could watch your video. Weather is better today - snow is all gone - had some rain the other day. But windy as on the cool side at 45F. Hope the puppies and you are doing well. Take care - Happy Easter.
What’s on the menu for dessert then Spinner?! Now you have us wondering! We got quite addicted to banana pudding when we were in Texas! We have the odd sunny day here but it’s still so cold, intermingled with lots of rain! The towpaths are still SO muddy! Not good for our white dogs 😂. Thankfully we have woken up to beautiful blue skies this morning. Let’s hope they stay! Wishing you both a lovely relaxing Easter weekend. Swarkestone Hall looks like Tixall Lodge near the Staffs and Worcs canal (near Gt Haywood Junction).
Yes you're right, it really does! Tixall wide has been one of our standout moorings in our time aboard. We were lucky to get a mooring right at the widest part with the view of the lodge, and the weather was glorious! Wonderful memories 😊

Glad you enjoyed it! We’ve heard there is a similar waterway in Indiana perhaps. That’s about as close as it gets! It’s definitely a very different life to the years we spent in Texas! 😊
Love the green countryside and the trees getting leaves. Here in Washington State eastern side, we are slowly starting to get buds on the trees and grass is starting to grow. Lots of snow still in the mountains.

It was stunning cruising weather that day! This was actually filmed last year, but I’ve been really behind with editing, so we are no longer cruising with the boys, and yes we miss them, and have been driving to catch up with each other as we are now a few weeks by boat from each other! Still no definite date for the airing of Narrow Escapes on Channel 4. The latest we had heard was Easter but now that’s gone too! We have seen it being advertised for the new daytime upcoming line up trailer for Channel 4 though, so I guess it’s soon! 😊

Is the measurement you put up at each lock the width or the depth of said lock ?
Hubby and I live watching and dreaming of one day doing this lifestyle.
Hi Julie, the measurement shown at locks is the depth of the lock. Across the network there are single locks that are around 7ft wide that fit a 6ft 10” narrowboat in, and then double wide locks that fit 2 narrowboats or a wide beam. On rivers there are some huge locks that fit sometimes more than 10 narrowboats in. We felt tiny in those!
