    36+ kits in six months 😮 I think it takes me around six months to build three or four kits, ok so I only get a few hours a week but 36 works out at six a month. Now I know why you buy so many kits, you'll have run out by Christmas.

      HI Martin, I think having the channel compels me to build, i am also a singleton who works four on four off, so i have more time on my hands than most. Additionally the Japanese and D-day kits were built during 12 day holiday periods, built using a kind of mass production technique where multiple models were being primed and painted at the same time, which obviously saves a lot of time and effort, The Spitfires were mostly thrown together in 15 to 20 mins of build time and again primed on mass. My intention over the next 6 months is to try and start and complete 3-4 smallish kits per month, hmmmm we'll have to see how that goes LOL.

    Andy... that's a pretty impressive total for 6 months and they don't look half bad either. I used to have trouble painting cockpits but I tried making my own masks out of masking tape....its not that difficult after a while. Practice makes perfect... keep up the good work..I really enjoy your channel...

      Hi Tony, yes the cockpit covers are still causing me issues, have tried maskol, masking tape and sheets, but i just end up with more tape stuck to my fingers than the cockpit covers LOL, i will persevere though.

    Pretty cool to see this. I've been back on the bandwagon since early last year myself and have managed about 15 kits in that time (all hand-painted).
    It's definitely one of those things whereby you learn a little with every single kit - although that doesn't necessarily mean that each one is progressively better!

      Hello there @VenlyssPnorr and thanks for watching. I totally agree, i do feel that i am progressing though every now and again i drop a bit of a clanger, though TBH i sometimes find my errors to be rather amusing and tend to leave them rather than try to change them so it acts as a visible indication to try and avoid silly future mistakes. I like to think i am on a bit of a journey, i have just chosen to share it, hopefully some day i will drop the "novice" from the channel name and change it to "mediocre" LOL, i am kinda looking forward to that day LOL.

    Very productive, Andy. You'll probably never build so many kits so fast again but your skill level will be greatly improved by the experience. The military models look a bit bare without figures, but no doubt you'll rectify that in time. BTW--if any of the figures are in soft vinyl plastic you can put them in the fridge for a few hours before painting. That will aid in the paint adhering to the surface. Hope your enthusiasm for the hobby continues, and looking forward to more.

      hi Jeremy, yes well i think the "dirty dozen" days and trying to do 10 kits in 10 days (land of the rising sun & d-day) are way behind me, though the idea behind this sort of video structure and theme building are going to be replicated with more time to allow a better end product and a better structured series that i am indeed looking forward to starting some time next month. Cheers for your advice and assistance over the past 6 months, i reaise that i dont always seem to follow some of the good advice you give, but much of it is printed out on paper for future reference, but i see this as a journey where sometimes the mistakes and bodge jobs are part of the learning process and well i find my occasional F$%k ups rather amusing LOL.

      @@TheNoviceModeller Not a problem Andy! I started holding three-day challenges with the members of my model group, which I started as a personal challenge. I have successfully completed about half a dozen kits doing this, but they have been pretty easy and out of the box builds. In order to have half a chance of building down my stash I cannot spend excessive time on the simple kits. I recommend mixing it up with complex and easy kits to keep your energy high. Scott

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  24 дня назад

      Hi Scott, i like and also try to challenge myself, though as a novice builder every kit is a bit of a challenge LOL, the Japanese kits in this vid were all built over ten to twelve days, that was kind of the plan, though ended up taking many weeks to complete the painting and decaling after that. At some point next month i will be starting a bunch of projects presented as thematic series's where i will be interchanging between different themes every week or so, where i will be inviting the viewers to pretty much pick the build from a themed selection i put on the table, my kit stash which is somewhere in the ridiculous region of 400 is a mixture of vintage to modern, easy to complex, common to unusual, small, medium, large, mostly 1/72 and 1/35, i really seem to have taken a mad wander down the rabbit hole with this modelling malarkey and RUclips lunacy but am having a right old fun time.

I look forward to seeing where you go with your videos! Regarding stash size, I moved 40 kits when I took a job in another state a little over 30 years ago and I now have around 1000 (yes, three zeroes). Hi Andy. Well thats some output in six months. I did like the Rising Sun series of builds and I think the your skill levels improved greatly over that period. Looking back now at the Dirty Dozen builds I think that we can say that you were cutting your teeth on the building side of modelling. The Me110 was a marked improvement again with your build quality. And finally onto the Atomic series , I think that you were ambitious with the time constraint that you gave yourself but you turned a fail into a win , well done on that. You also learnt with the B29 that some models are far more involved so you adapted. May I take a guess with the final model in the Atomic series ? Maybe the USS Missouri ? The ship that the Japanese formally surrendered on. Overall Andy I think that you have definately improved , from your small scale armour builds ( The D-Day collection ) to your improvement with aircraft, particularly your Rising Sun series and now onto your large scale armour and multi engined aircraft builds. The only advice that I would give you now is to slow down and focus on single builds , that way your skills will improve further and the quality of your output will get much better. Well done my friend , you should be pleased with yourself. Good luck bud.

      Thanks Brian, i think i am slowly getting there or somewhere. I think i will finally have a go at some weathering over the next couple of months; though i am about to embark on multiple projects simultaneously and will be interchanging between them on a weekly basis, though i will not be rushing anymore. Ah the Atomic series, i hadn't even named it, i like that, now Missouri would be logical, but i have done my first 1/700 warship and a 1/72 aircraft so now really i need to do a ..............1/35, i found something quite randomly, i didn't even connect it immediately, but its pretty cool.

    Now I enjoy building models but 36 in 6 months is not, in my opinion, very enjoyable. Sounds more like work to me. What's the point of building so many so quickly. Very impressive how much you got done, but stop and smell the roses as they say or you'll burn yourself out.

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  17 дней назад

      Hello there @Joepacker and thanks for watching. LOL to a certain degree you are right, however 12 of the kits are Spitfires which i call my "dirty dozen", mostly built in 15 -20 mins to try to get some kits built quickly to practice painting and Youtubing, the D-day selection and the Japanese aircraft were built during time off from work and were built using a kind of mass production technique of build then prime & paint en-masse. For me personally this has all been very useful in learning some of the very basic techniques of construction and painting and the quick turnover of kits has allowed me to deliver regular RUclips output and build a reasonably successful small youtube channel that was monetized 7 weeks ago (monetisation is not the aim, but in the long run is beneficial). The channel is essentially my journey trying to get my head around kit building and i think kind of works as an alternative to the tried and tested formula of incredibly talented kit builders, who produce near works of art. the channel needs a lot of improving, i occasionally refer to myself as "a muppet who makes models badly" and i don't take myself very seriously, I suppose you could call this a bit of a "mad phase" but i am now feeling reasonably confident to move forward at a slightly more relaxed and refined pace and hopefully my skills will slowly improve both from a building & painting perspective and from the perspective of video production/creation/ideas, etc........then hopefully one day i can change the channel name by dropping the "novice" from the title and replacing it with "mediocre" well that's the general idea anyhoo. hope you have time to watch a bit more craziness in the future.
      best regards
      andy.

      Hello there @LUC66631 and thanks for watching. No idea, i'm afraid i am unable to see how you build your kits, your RUclips is a blank space. I started kit building again 6 months ago, so i don't expect my kits to be works of art, like those that are displayed on so many of the channels in this space, currently i consider myself to be in the practice phase, but i have an 8 year plan for RUclips and building the 400+ kits in my stash; my channel is perhaps, you could say a journey from being a novice to becoming mediocre, to perhaps your level? I also like to think i possess a positive, engaging and warm personality and i am keen to learn from others, and many so far have been extremely helpful and generous with their knowledge, positivity and encouragement
      Anyway thanks for your kind words, i have subscribed to your RUclips channel and am looking forward eagerly to viewing some content that you have taken the time to provide for the enjoyment, benefit, amusement or disdain of others.
