You should put a muffler on it instead of an exhaust pipe. Also you need to remove the ignition switch. I wanted a car when I was 13. Instead my dad got me a 39 b that I had to rebuild. I guess he felt I couldn't get into trouble with it. Lol. Great video.
So nice to hear this sound again. My dad had what I think was a Model B tractor, but it had fenders on it. He started it in the same way. He has passed away now, but still have great memories of that tractor and watching him use it. Thanks for the video.
Started my Dad's '41 B up yesterday. It hadnt bern started in two years, since he fell ill. Took about five minutes but started right up!!!!! He passed away in December and my step-mom said she choked up watching me drive it.....looked just like my Dad.
When my Grandpa Oliver got back from Korea in 1954, he bought a 1941 John Deere model B tractor that you had to start by hand by turning the fly wheel.
We had a steel wheeled version on our farm in Upper Michigan when I was growing up there. Always remember the hissing of the decompression valves during priming. Thanks for the memories!
Haha! In 1968, my Grandpa would have sho told Utubers to get ready for a super long video waitn' on us to to start his hand crankin *JD* *A* ! But once it did start, I thought that Green Torque Baby could pull anything.
Nice tractor. Used to listen to them being used when I was a kid. I used to think they were grouse drumming (would just get the accelerating putt-putt--putt-putting of a distant tractor). My neighbor (50 years ago) was a poor farmer and I vividly remember him trying to start a B. He spun that flywheel for at least half an hour and no go. On a hot Summer day. He eventually went bankrupt. Maybe new spark plugs would have saved the farm.
what are the setting for the carberator i have a 1941 and it dies when i out it into gear and when idling it harsh and goes to die but then gets the energy then dies then gets the energy again it does it as along as theres gas and stays running if you could tell me that would a big help thanks.
Dad had a Model B back in the old days in East Tennessee. I could crank my rear off and not start it and he would spin the flywheel a half turn and it would fire up.
I’m in my sixties now however when I was young we used to cut my grandfathers firewood with a big saw. I used to handoff the wood from the saw. My grandfather had a John deer similar to this but it had one wheel in the front instead of the slanted two. Anyone know what that might have been? Iv never seen another one like it.
my grandpa had what my mother referred to as a "Popp'n Johnny" probably it was older than 1940 but the same affair. a flywheel he turned. the only thing I saw of it was when it was a rust bucket with a tree growing through it. I was 7 when I saw it in 1976/77 he had the thing when my mother was a kid and before!
I found one of these completely restored for 5k i was going to buy it for my small farm just a garden tractor really but i didnt realize they had no 3 point hitch i guess all they were made for back then was pulling plows?
They were actually made for pulling horse drawn farm implements. 3 point hitches did not become common until the mid 50s. A John Deere model 50 is equivelent to a B and has a 3 point. The model 60 is equivalent to the bigger A.
That started so much easier than the ones I had to pull on when I was a kid. I still love the sound of the Johny Popper.

Thank you. That brings back a lot of memories.
I thought my 1940 model H started well until I saw you start your B on a quarter rotation of the flywheel. Nice running tractor you have

That's one of my favorite sounds in the whole world.....very unmistakable.
I’m the proud owner of a 1944 JD Model B, hand crank start. Love it!
We had a model A & a B when I was a kid. Love the sound of those machines.
Just love the sound of those old John Deere Tractors.
I have one. 😅😅😅😅
My grandfather had a Model B when I was a kid. Thanks for posting
Love the sound of old engines, be it a tractor, a car, or an old boat.

I have a John Deere 1948 model A that I am trying to start

Well done. . . nice tractor looks like it is well maintained and I'm sure you are proud of it!! Thanks for posting! Phil South Carolina
I enjoyed this video of your John Deere , thank you for posting it .
Let's plough the fields! There were a few model Bs around the Finger Lakes in 1960s when I was a kid there.
Nice! I hope to have one soon, just working out the details, then maybe I’ll have a smile as big as yours when I’m on it.
Very good sir

I used to rake hay with one of those back in the day. I soon found out the spark plugs were too close to the pedcocks!! OUCH!!
OK your vid really pissed me off! but finally my model B after rebuild etc does what yours does! regards Phil (UK)
Wow tractor is in good condition.
Dang, listen to that thing run! And how easily it started up!
So many memories
We used to keep the folgers coffee can on and it would 30 ft in the air, followed by several smoke rings.. lol..

Nice Deere, has a seat and pedestal off of a farmall
Wow what about farming? Do u
Antique awesome, my god.
Alguien podria decirme cuanto cuesta un tractor de estos y como podría conseguirlo?? Soy de España.Saludos
Good
The exhaust pipe is really ugly on it!
Why a battery on the back, did you eliminate the mag?
+g r meyers The battery is just there for some extra oomph. Our Mag is pretty weak and should probably be replaced.
Wow

Runs great, however the farmall seat seems a bit out of place
Does it have a starter battery or alternator how does it create the spark?
The magneto produces its own spark much like your pull start lawnmower or woodsplitter!!
Why it's front tyres are very close to each other, why had not like johndeere 5310
talwinder Singh
It's designed that way. It's called a "trike" set-up. It turns tighter than a spread front end.
Nice. I doubt the one we have will ever run again.
I have a one tractor like same model
Friend had one of those, 27 horsepower.
where does the greenstar mount
Diddleshot would you like some dinner XD
