Dusty Springfield one of the greatest female vocalists of all time.
One huge point-of-praise:
Dusty is NOT lip-syncing in this clip. I miss her.
I’m sure you have researched all time.
Who was the girl with black hair please ❤
@@gerrymcglynn7390 Susan Maughan...
The most wonderful years. Glad I grew up and was a teenager in the 60’s❤. Best music era ever!
No tattoos, no nose rings or studs, no neon mohawks, no squawks, grunts or shrieks. Just pure talent, attractiveness and grace. It was a different world, and it's all gone now.
Maybe - hopefully - not quite all gone.
The fuck does that have to do with the music?
@@bruce3242 Obviously, judging by your bellicose reaction to my comment, it means nothing to you. Continue enjoying what you prefer; there's more than enough of what you like out there. Stay cool.
AMEN 2 that...& 'SPOT ON'!, Tom.

Petula Clark was actually singing (not lip syncing)…. And interacting with the cast. Tremendous
To a track, or had a orchestra.?

So was Dusty...I think.
British TV made singers sing live to backing tracks.
And still performing in 2023!
Dusty Springfield's pipes were gifts from God. She could belt out the drama, blues, you name it.
As are those of French singer Mireille Mathieu. Check out her material, of which there is plenty on RUclips.
Well spoken
Dusty was one of the greatest singers who have ever lived, whether it be male or female. Her voice was range and tonality was alto, which is below the vocal range of soprano, as female vocalists are known.

Petula Clark was the one who had the definitive career that is still going strong at a Unmatchable 91 years young.
From child Star of radio and movies to chart hits all over Europe (France, Italy,Germany and Spain.)
Petula Clark is a Worldwide Mega-Star with outstanding hits in both the British Charts and then WOW!!!! America.
The Americans instantly took Petula to their hearts.
Upon hearing the musical masterpiece that is Downton the USA went Petula Clark Crazy.
Petula Clark got a truly amazing FIFTHTEEN consecutive Top One Hundred Chart hits after Downtown with the musical genius of both Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent songs and Petula's Unique way of singing them .
(I Couldn't Live Without Your Love,I Know A Place,The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener,Colour My World,Who Am I,Sign Of The Times,My Love ect.)
Petula Clark played on The World's biggest stages including Cesus Palace, Broadway, London and France.
After being a Child Star appearing in films and the radio Petula Clark became a Movie Star for the second time as she appeared with Hollywood Legend Fred Astaire in Finnian's Rainbow followed by Goodbye Mister Chips with Peter O'Toole.
Afterwards Petula branched out into Musical Theatre.
Appearing in Mega Musicals such as The Sound Of Music then with American Superstar David Cassidy in Blood Brothers to sell out audiences every time
Next came Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard where Petula had standing applause every show.
Finally Petula appeared in Mary Poppins The Musicial in London's West End.
Quite a CV don't you think?
One that is extremely unlikely ever to be matched.
❤Well Done to Petula Clark OBE for all the happiness and joy that you have brought myself and all of your fans Worldwide.

WHEN LADIES COULD REALLY SING NO GIMMICKS JUST GREAT VOICES BRILLIANT 💖
Adele could hold her own with any of those ladies to be fair mate.

@@tommcconville677 👍🏻💯
Very much so. To a lot of people's dismay, somewhere down the road, a performers ability to do something special, that not too many other people could do, lost it's validity. Change had to come. It was inevitable. Suspect, if you look all the way down at the bottom of reasons why this had to happen, you would find one word, and that is GREED.
I’m so glad I was able to grow up with this music, the 60’s and 70’s were a great time to grow up my best friend used to dance and sing along, I miss those days
Dusty's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" is one of the greatest female vocal performances of all time. Petula Clark had such a smooth dazzling voice, have to add Dame Shirley Bassey, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector and of course Karen Carpenter
Ohh what a list--not forgetting Joni M, Judy C, Judith D, Mary H and and Melanie S eoooh er! enough to make you go all seaside postcardie!-not!😎
When pop music had melody, harmony, arrangement and sincerity.
Spot on David...sadly those days are gone, but what memories of the time when music was music, life was simple but happy...the less you had the happier you were, as no one was better than enyone else, but there was community and all helped each other....we could do with that world today....anyone got a time machine ? 🤔😏
And real orchestras!
Nowadays women have to take their clothes off and sing through a machine to give them volume and to stay in tune FACT
We are enjoying music from the 1960’s, now 50+ years later. Will today’s music be enjoyed 50 years from now?
The world had issues then, but that era had cool songs.
This is when music was music and you actually had to hit notes.❤
These ladies actually had talent, with great lyrics. No gimmicks. No wind machines, nobody rolling around the floor like some nasty thing. No pyrotechnics or huge bands. Just pure talent. We’ll never see talent like this again.
I agree! And you are so right! 🤗

Correction, this is talent. I get the feeling you don’t like music of this era or the women in the video. Fine, these women were very talented. They had long careers.
The 60s were a time of colour and creativity which overturned the drabness of the immediate post war years. So thankful to have lived through them as a teenager
I was a child in the 60s. Things were simpler and people actually talked face to face without relying on tech bring back innocence.
Dusty Springfield was so amazing, her interpretation of Burt Bacharach songs was wowzer
Petula Clark should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, many great songs, everyone sand to them.
Dusty Springfield was a great great talent!!! Lord I miss her!!
I read was very near sighted.
So everything was a blur when she was singing on stage.
Dusty was one of the greatest singer's of all she was absolutely brilliant a gem miss her so much she gave us so much GOD BLESS DUSTY AND CILLA UP THERE IN HEAVEN.

Back in the 80's I worked with Susan Maughan, and she remains one of the loveliest, most genuine pro's I've ever met. Lovely woman!
One word sums these singers,outstanding.
Dusty has an angelic voice when she sings is like an angel serenading. Wow what a singer.
Takes me back to my youth, great memories. Best years of my life, miss those good old days especially with the way the world is heading. Sad ❤
Susan Maughan was utterly gorgeous.
Love this Petula Clark live rendition!
But the dancing was pretty silly, gotta admit.
A priceless collection of performances from some truly talented singers
God how I loved Petula and Dusty ! They were all so great. They didn'took like hookers, or pole dancers like alot of them do today ! Plus they had talent !
You can understand all the words. On the radio today some artists slur or do not enunciate clearly. Loved the Seekers too and the songs of the 60’s and the 70’s.
I met Dusty back in 1985 - I was recording at Odyssey studios in London and she was working in the studio next to us - she came in to introduce herself and check out what we were up to and she was extremely nice to talk to. I'm so glad I got to meet her because I'd always been a great admirer of her vocal talents and it was nice to finally get to talk to her.
Name dropper.
@@snoopy7690Not really. These people aren’t aliens just because they’re famous. They do bump into people in RL & it’s nice to get a perspective from someone who met her. She seemed a really nice lady, so it’s good to confirm that’s exactly how she was.
It's great to listen and understand what there singing , no gimmicks, just pure talent 👌
I remember hearing "Downtown "
when I was about 3 or 4 years old when my Mom would sing it in 60's I still love it.

Well said.
They just don't make them like they used to. I love the music from the 60s! They're all timeless. These old clips from the TV shows are fantastic! They don't do that anymore either. I love your channel! ❤️ Thank you!

Beautiful singers with real talent
Pet Clark, Dusty Springfield, Susan Maugham, Marianne Faithful, Cilla Black, and Sandie Shaw we’re part and parcel of the British Invasion! Truly talented and great performers! You left out a truly talented Australian, Judith Durham! These were special ladies!
Absolutely agree with you on the late Judith Durham of the Seekers whom passed away in August. Not many people know that Dusty Springfield's brother Tom Springfield wrote several of their top hits that beat out the Beatles and Rolling Stones as well as other top groups of the time.
Judith Durham had a unique voice indeed, but she wasnt a solo artist until she left the Seekers. Not sure she ever reached the heihgts she did while with the Seekers, once she left🤔
Missing one and I can’t remember her name. Getting old is not fun. She had lots of his! No matter I love all of there girls too.
Leslie Gore!
And don't forget Shirley Bassey in that group
Susan Maughan? Wow ... sweet ... and quite the voice. Why she wasn't a hit on our side of the Atlantic ...?
Beauty!!❤
I was lucky enough to meet Petula Clark at a dinner show she gave in Toronto just before I left for Japan. That was thirty-five years ago, and she couldn't have been kinder or more gracious. She always had a distinctive, powerful, clear voice. A true great.
Went 6 to 16 in the 60's.
What a great time to be a kid.
Great music.
3 to 13. Had older siblings.
Downtown is a brilliant composition, formwise. Melodic, dramatic, and having TWO climaxes - 'Just listen to the music...' followed by the even bigger 'Downtown...' Petula Clark is always professional yet so at ease on stage. Love the way she delivers the line '...to guide them along...'! Class act.
She was pure talent. Downtown is the first song as a child that stood out for me and left a lasting memory.
Downtown & several more songs for Pet Clarke [eg; "I know A Place"] were written by Tony Hatch & his wife Jackie Trent. Hatch was the Simon Cowell of his day on a talent show called "New Faces".
Agreed. It's a monstrously great song. It was THE favorite song of the Canadian genius pianist Glenn Gould.

People of all ages loved them. Dusty and Petula are my faves. Love Petula's Karen Carpenter tribute.
Can't believe Pet Clark is now 90. Perhaps I shouldn't be thinking like that and just enjoy the memories of these great singers. They'll never be equalled. Dusty Springfield still makes me emotional after all these years.
Love all these sweet ladies, even here in 2022. happy days.
Susan Maughan that's my girl she gives me goosebumps
Boy I miss that era!
I grew up in the 60's and 70's...
Every time I watch these old clips from that era, I get so nostalgic and heartsick for the less complicated and much more innocent times back then!
I wish I had a time machine to take me back!!!
Yes I do agree, intellectual, elegant singers(men & women) love the oldies talented artist they have unique contribution to our world💕🎸🎼📆🎺
Love Susan Maughan's singing, looks a lot like Dianna Rigg
My time will never change. Never!
I'm back again in the '60ties.😊😊😊😊😊
I confess that I never heard of Susan Maughan before. What a beauty and such a strong voice. Too bad she didn’t get as much airplay
Most of her material was a bit dated for the time. 'Make Him Mine' was unusually upbeat for her.
She was never able to cross the Atlantic. Her biggest hit reached #3 in the UK, but she never charted in the US or Canada.
You might like Helen Shapiro It Might as Well Rain Until September.
@@ericbond5276 I do. I saw a video of her singing with the Beatles making a cameo appearance

Real live raw talent. Nobody can touch them today.
gorgeous voices without autotune and melodie’s that will last forever
Never heard " Make Him Mine" before. Should have been a bigger hit.
GREAT ERA ! GREAT MUSIC ! GREAT ENTERTAINERS !
The world that we used to know is a world that no longer exists!
They look better then today's singers
Hi Patsy💐💐
So many great female voices from the past.
Dusty and Cilla in Heaven making beautiful music, two great leg.
And now joined by Judith Durham of the Seekers. What a stage show that'll be.
Cilla Black had a reputation for looking down her nose at the so-called 'little people'. There are many accounts from air stewards and stewardesses about her being a right cow.
@@CrankCase08 It's sad that a few celebrities get carried away by their popularity and raised income as proof that they are and should be exalted by we, the great unwashed (in their opinion), in every facet of life. Says much about their fragile sense of self.
Their, "Do you know who I am?" statements also give cause to roll our eyes at their sad false personal opinion.
Oh well. I'll just continue to ignore their ridiculous statements and go about my personal life.
Class acts, all of them. Great time for natural talent!
No enhanced vocals, pure talent and no frills! Grew up listening to this music! Brings back memories of a time we'll never see again ❣️.

Though I was born after Dusty's heyday, I'm a big fan. She had such a glorious and distinctive voice. My favorite song of hers is the one shown here, but of course anything she did was amazing.
I had the extreme pleasure to meet and actually sit and talk with Perula while on a cruise. The most gracious lady I've ever met. She took the time to sit with me and we took a number of pictures together. A tremendous talent and a truly remarkable and gracious person.

Petula’s male dancers are a riot.
Yeah, how bad was that? It was really, what's the word? Gay?
@@lamarravery4094 'Gay' is an understatement. Try 'flaming'..
A brilliant video. Thanks for putting it together.
Pet Clark had a great voice and incredible timing. Hatch and Trent were almost the British Bacharach and David.
Amazing. I heard a lot of this on the radio as a little kid and didn't know the names. But I knew it was great material.
Dusty, fabulous voice.
The purity of song lost, thank goodness for these musical treasures. Love them
Dusty’s voices was s o sensual sultry and gorgeous. So unique in her phrasing. When Dusty recorded with the pet shop boys when asked what makes Dusty so great one of the boys stated’well she came in and sort of Dustified the record. The four blokes dancing with Petula Clark are as stiff as a cadaver but the women dancers line are almost perfect. Especially two of the brunettes. I was born here in San Diego in 1964 so I came to the party a bit late but my mum Carol had all of Pet Clark’s records and Dusties. Cilla Black and Sandy Shaw weren’t as huge on this side of the pond as they were in Britain but I have don’t laugh mates in Scunthorpe of all places which I first visited in 1987. Cuz I was a teacher 1987 to 92 I had the entire summer off. So I went to sunny Scunny every summer. My mates drank at the Bridge House Hotel and Pub right next to the rail station. So I would play on the jukebox Dusty ‘the look of love’. Pet Clark Downtown and many others. Sandy Shaw and Cilla Black. The Walker Brothers the Sun ain’t gonna shine any more. And Manfred Mann Pretty Flamingo with Paul Jones on vocals and The Mighty Quinn with my dream woman British Actress Olivia dABO Sfax Michael dABO sorry Olivia’s dad Michael on lead vocals. Yes my mates got tired of hearing he same songs night after night. It’s amazing how many great seminal British female singers there were in the sixties. All the women in this video plus Dame Shirley Bassey and Helen Shapiro. I had to quit drinking in 1992 after an all day session landed me on the other side of the humber bridge at the Royal Hospital in Hull but every time I hear Dusty or Petula or Cilla or Sandy I always think back to those days in don’t laugh Scunthorpe. Those gorgeous women dancers with Petula would probably be in their late 70s now cuz Petula is about 88. Anyone know whatever happened to any of these dancers? I was born about 15 years too late. !!!!!!
Shirley Bassey...to me, one of the greatest female voices ever (along with Maria Callas).
I don't know how old petula Clark is but she was in a film today and it was made in the 40 s ,,,can't believe she still performing ,what a trooper 👌
She was born in 1932 and turned 90 last month.

When I was a kid, I used to sing "Downtown" all the time. Still a great song.
Marianne Faithful sounded to me like what I imagined an Angel must sound like. And looked even prettier. Oh what a time to grown up in.

Dusty was really superb voice and emotion!
I was a teenager in the 60s, love the fashion and we used to make our own clothes.
Yep. A totally lost art, Ann. Just about all females could sew back then. I remember my GF at the time.. "wait I gotta finish this up". unreal. The absolute best decade that this world has ever seen. I would give anything to return to it.
Gosh I miss those days 💔
These ladies were pure class. When they sang it was their true voices. They were well-dressed. No body accessories protruding or art. Pure classic times. Unfortunately, these days have disappeared into our memories until we leave our earthly bodies.
I remember that song, Down Town, thanks for the video. Brings back memories.
Every decade has its share of great singers. The sixties were the start of my musical education. These women certainly had that rare quality of style and talent. Great talent will always be rediscovered by future generations. Wait until they discover the magic of Bassey and Streisand and all those who amazing talents that have brought us to today. Makes me want to see what the next great generation will discover and who will bring us the new standards.
Sadly you will be waiting for some time, the gene pool is weird now 🥹
the generations of the 21st century have done NOTHING for "pop". You gotta look elsewhere like out of the USA and at crossover singers like Sissel, Enya and a few others.
Another beautiful voice
Dusty is the most underrated singer of the 60's

It's so sixties. Love it. All had great talent and star quality
back in the days when music had melody, harmony, rhythm lyrics that told a story, an fame was based on talent not looks or being photogenic, when we only had two genders an you could actually tell em apart !!!!
