      Lancia was the then struggling Fiat groups sacrificial lamb, in order to justify saving Alfa Romeo, which inherited much of Lancias best bits, like the motorsport team etc. Who were merged into Alfa Romeos own motorsport department and created the 155 dtm.
      The Lancia name may only be an echo of the past but some of its spirit carried over into Alfa Romeo atleast.

      @@perfectman3077 The Impreza is a great car for sure, and a Rally icon, but the Delta would go on to dominate the sport like no other car before or since. And then there's the magnificent 037, the only rear wheel driven car to ever win a championship against a field of four wheel drives. An achievement to which the Rally God Walter Röhrl himself would make a significant contribution. He later stated that the car felt as fitting as a shoe, and that if he thought about driving a section, the car had already done it. I can hardly imagine a higher praise.

    The most impressive thing about Lancia and the Alfa DTM team was Sergio Limone admitting they had only a fraction of the budget their competitors had, also tons of the " smaller race parts " were just road car bits taken from the Fiat line up because development had to be reserved for big stuff.

    I think the Peugeot 205 T16 was showing it’s championship winning potential, with a small commercial hatchback car(homologation) plus a powerful mid engine layout & 4wd, that Lancia decided to go down that route.

      @rmamon2554 11 месяцев назад +1

      205 T16 you forgot the 4x4 its also in its name. Joan Todt wanted all its features in it's Name. And what a world beater this thing was. 2 Drivers Championships + 2 Constructors Championships, small, endlessly nimble, and more power than a Cosworth F1 Engine. What's unbelievable about Lancia history is that Lancia isn't some big manifacturer. It didn't have the infinite cash flow Audi or Toyota or Peugeot had, it only won because of sheer talent and, most importantly, passion.
    Those were the years where manifacturers still tought "Can I afford to race? No. Do I want to race? Hell yeah", times where you sold cars to make enough money to be able to race, not the opposite.

    Very nice video , Lancia was really the biggest legend of rally racing. Those Martini Racing colors will stay with me for my whole life due to Lancia rally team .

      The Porsche factory backed Martini team had just as much/more success then Lanica. Both automakers own those colors more then Ford, lotus, Alfa who also wore the strip.

    I recon it was Saby who drove past accident, and shortly after turned his car around and drove on to oncoming traffic, one of the biggest no no`s in the sport. You can see him standing next to a fire with his helmet on 20:56

    "Legacy, that's the best thing, any of us can hope to leave behind" Nope, you should have children, to balance out all the idiots out there. That is the best, you should leave behind. Have fun!

    In the Rally of Portugal 1986, the driver of the Ford RS 200 who had the accident was a portuguese driver, who's name was Joaquim Santos.

    Lancia should have only built rallycars .......and Alfa only racecars .
    Their biggest mistake was selling cars for everyday use year in year out !

    Toyota 1993 win must feel very hollow when you consider they won because the 6 times consecutive champion just bailout from the sport
