I would not do a paddle like that without checking wind speed and direction. It was a great day on the water. Just wished the fish were bigger.

New to kayaking and I love fishing. Is there a place in So Cal you'd recommend to start at? Don't think I'm ready for the open ocean, looking for safe calm waters.

Awesome, welcome to the party! Huntington Harbor and Alamitos Bay are good places to start. A lot of docks and some open waters you can fish. Also important for a new kayak fisherman places to hide from the wind. Wind is one of the things you have to be aware of while fishing on a yak. It can push you into boat traffic if you are not paying attention. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Nice, welcome to the kayak fishing family. I don't live in LA anymore and don't know when I will be down. But I don't mind helping where I can. What are some of your Q's?

Thanks. I like to start on the inside of the kelp around 15-20'. Then work my way out to the edge of the kelp fishing in 40-60'.
