    I just started getting into all this flowering and gardening. I have lots of knowledge from my Nana when I was younger we gardened together lots of summers. She died, and I found myself fighting drug addiction for the last 8 yrs. But I survived it, and I'm back. Hopefully, for good. And my gardens are looking amazing. Thanks to my Nana and people like you making these videos. ❤

      I am Granny George. Please stick to what Nana taught you. She taught you how life goes on after death by growing flowers. That's one of the reasons people give flower for a grieving family during the funeral preparations. My name is Georgette but my grandchildren call me Granny George. Let me share this with you too. I am 69 years old and just lost my mother a year ago at age 102 and she was home with the family, no nursing home. I had all kinds of flowers growing around her while caring for her. She said thank you for my flowers while I can enjoy them. Don't let something that will take you away too soon overshadow how Nana taught you how to keep love and life around you with flowers. Bless You and PLEASE love yourself like Nana loved you. Kick Dope in the AZZ!

    my seeds are uniform but I collected the seeds from mainly wave petunias. I just one different red petunia with curly leaves but ALL of my Wave petunias that I bought and collected seeds from are EXACTLY like the parent plants of red, white, and "blue" which is really a purple color. I do have a few pink ones as well. I will agree, they did take FOREVER to get to a decent seedling status where I could thin them out and put in different baskets, I mentioned before I started mine in hanging baskets also because the seeds are so small. Mine are taking off and now I'll have more seeds! I'm very excited! I'll never have to buy another, unless I see a different color that I want! I did buy a few light purple ones and pink ones this year. 💜💕😍💗💓💖💜

    I had been growing and collecting seeds since 2018 or so. In 20/21 I had about 8 different colours, in 22 half the seeds didnt come back as the original colours but produced 2 times more colours and different styles that I never had before. This year I separated the seeds into their own trays to see what colours do I get. But its interesting that combining seeds produces so many unique colours that I never seen online or in any stores. Yep it takes SO LONG, but for me personally I only do petunias so I kinda have to learn to love the process ;)

    Hi Mike. TY for these 2 videos. Found your channel while looking for info on Petunia's.
    We almost never have grown flowers from seed, just vegetables. Always bought flowers
    for 4 hanging baskets. But last year a Petunia popped up next to a small channel drain
    along our paver patio, and another and so on. A free parsley spread row of flowers!
    It had to be from dead flowers fell on the patio and made their way to the drain when
    it rained. OK, easy peasy free! Not this year. Eye opener on the price of seeds.
    Anyway, we planted 36 seeds 2-15, all but 1 germinated. 36 more on 3-12, that started
    germinating yesterday. Grown indoors almost mirror images yours, time wise.
    Can't wait to start pruning, propagating and wintering over. Oh yeah, and free flowers
    for life.
    Do you fertilize once a week all year?
    Thanks Again

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 года назад +2

      As long as the parent plants were both black or have the same genetics and were bred in a controlled environment, then you'll get black. The problem arises when pollen from a different color gets involved or the parent plants aren't stable.

    • @MikeKincaid79

      I watered about once a week while they were small. In fact, I think I only misted them at first. Once they were large plants growing in the hoop house I was watering every other day during the summer. Petunias require a ton of water.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 года назад +3

      It's all due to the genetic variation of seeds. Same reason 2 sisters or brothers look different. The only way to get an identical clone of the parent plant is through asexual propagation (cuttings).

  • @michelehood479

    Even for experimental purposes could you have cut it into 4 sections and still had 4 pots? My petunias reseeded themselves for the first time ever. And I planted purple and white plants last year. They are many shades of pink to red, and several shades of purple. No white.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 года назад

      Thanks for asking. It was pretty bad around here. I spend days prior trying to get everything watered but there is no real prep for what hit us. In 30 years of living here, I've never seen heat like that in this area. I had a bunch of established rhododendrons in my landscape get burnt pretty bad on their new growth, and that was after hand watering them. I lost a few plants in the hoop house too. Overall, I feel pretty good about it and most everything did OK and made it through but that was pretty brutal.

      After the flowers die and fall off, that's where the seed pod is. The pods will get bigger and eventually pop open, so warch your petunias for this, save that seed pod...I do it every year:) pansies, all violas actually, do the same.

    What can I use to control weeds and slow fertilize my petunia bed

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  2 года назад +1

      Slow release fertilizer can be found in any big box store. Any brand will work well for petunias, just choose something that will be formulated for blooms. As far as weeds go, I use a pre-emergent to prevent weed seeds from germinating. If they've already germinated then you'll have to pull them. Hope that helps and enjoy your spring Virdena!
