    Hi. Your video was so helpful. It's the middle of January here in zone 6b and I'm excited to begin. I have a grow light and very big windows. How many hours of light will be sufficient?

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen
      @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. Probably 7-8 hours of light per day will be sufficient however with grow lights you can supplement this. Kind regards. Gary

    Thank you for this, I have germinated hundreds of seeds of petunias and so far put bunches of them into trays. So perhaps it’s time to single them out into pots. Which leads me to ask will the rest grow well enough in bunches of 8+ in larger pots or will they choke each other?

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen
      @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen  2 года назад +4

      Hi Susan and thank you for your comment.
      I always think plants grow better separated rather than in bunches as they will all compete for the same nutrients and water if left in bunches. I’m sure they will still grow in bunches but I think they would grow better if separated and put into individual pots. Kind regards. Gary

    What is the temperature of your Poly House where you move your Petunias to? I have a bunch of trays I just up-potted in my heated Garden House and need to move some out to my high tunnel which is not heated.

  • @ievasproge5611

    I've just sown some petunias the other day. I'm keeping them on the window sill covered with cling film at 22 degrees C. You say after you prick them out you put them in the 'poly house' not sure I heard that right? What sort of conditions would you recommend at that stage? I only have my kitchen and the outside to work with, no in between!

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen
      @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen  Год назад +3

      Thank you very much for your comment. A polyhouse is like a greenhouse but with plastic rather than glass. You kitchen will be fine, ideally on a window with plenty of light. As long as you keep them reasonably warm indoor they should grow nicely until the temperature is warm enough to plant them outside. I hope this helps and kind regards. Gary

    youre a good guy, but it drives me crazy to see someone saying start your seeds indoors ,so you watch the video , and they ve got a lovely greenhouse or a huge polytunnel and then they say "its easy really " come on man please , and the comeback is , or you can start them on your window sill,, leggy mr lean ////// 🤣🤣🤣🤣 now where did i put my polytunnel I had it in my pocket this morning I'm sure !!!!!!!!!

      Hi Stevie and thank you very much for your comment. Apologies if I’ve said something that frustrates you, that is never my intention.
      After I left me allotment last year I no longer have a polytunnel or greenhouse so most of my seeds are now started in my house or small potting shed. I have bought a few of those small mini greenhouses and they help a little, and I’ve been quite successfully this year with seed germination. Once again apologies. Kind regards. Gary
