    If you pinch out the tips when they are a couple inches tall and then keep pinching every couple of leaf pairs you will end up with much bushier plants. Also, it is helpful to keep removing flowers until you have the size and robustness of plant you are hoping for and then when it is big and bushy, stop removing the buds and let them go to town.
    It all depends on what type of form you are going for. There is beauty in the wispy and not bushy look as well. Aesthetics is in the eye of the beholder :)

    What beautiful videos.. so informative! My Petunias are fabulous and I'm going to harvest some seed for next spring! I use them as cut flowers all the time.. They continue blooming from any little flowers on the stem and kook especially beautiful, I think, in a little mason jar. Cheers and thanks for the lessons!

      Do they just fall back into the pot and grow?

    • @annewatman677
      @annewatman677 2 года назад

      @@DreaKisting No, they fall onto the ground. I wish I could post a photo because it’s amazing to see them keep coming back and spreading. I had the pots near a little gravel walkway, and I know there was a plastic liner underneath. I think that over time, leaves, etc., deteriorated and made just enough *soil* for the petunias to grow. It’s a very fine gravel. I even spotted some last year in the dirt next to some iris. So, the petunias reseed themselves in the fall, and come up about mid summer the following year. I don’t even need to buy any now.

    Really enjoyed learning the characteristics of different petunias. Quite helpful. I've used wave petunias in a plant tower. So graceful. I find that if I judiciously prune petunias and give them coffee grounds they last much longer. Did you know that petunias are closely related to tobacco which explains why a tobacco hornworm was happily munching away at them. Since it was such a handsome caterpillar I took the opportunity to have a photo shoot. The tobacco hornworm or Goliath Worm sequesters nicotine in its body so that its unharmed, but poisonous to predators.

      Petunias are wonderful flowers. They’re tough too in spite of their fragile appearance.
      We were delighted to get some black velvet petunias-absolutely stunning with white petunias. One friend said there’s no such thing as a black flower. Nobody else agreed with him. 😄 Have a nice day.

    Hello from Oklahoma, USA!! I really appreciate your approach to your how-to garden and more videos! I have 1 question and 1 comment for you.
    First, the question... why are "leggy" tomato seedlings bad? I mean they are a vine and some people believe the deeper you plant them or if you plant them horizontally they will produce more roots and be a healthier plant, so why would a "leggy" version be a bad thing?
    Secondly, and most importantly, I really admire you for taking care of and spending so much time with your grandfather! Both of my grandfathers are gone now. My grandfather on my dad's side passed when I was only 3 years old, I am 47 now. My grandfather on my mother's side passed away a year and a half ago, he was 91. I would love to be able to spend another day with both of them just to sit and talk to them about anything and everything! So in saying this, what I mean is, I hope you never take for granted or regret the amount of time you have to listen to him, even if it is him just complaining about the weather.
    Keep up the great work and if you ever get to jump the big pond, come visit Oklahoma! I could use some (physical) help with my garden! Lol! I look forward to notifications of your future videos!

    We have been growing black petunias from the seed, and the seedlings began to sprout, but overnight by the next day the seedlings disappeared into the soil. Any advice, if by any chance there's a way to make these same seeds/ seedlings come back to life again ?

      I've never heard of seeds going back into the soil. My guess would be they've been attacked and eaten over night by a pet :(

    Do you ever cover the seeds with a plastic dome to help germination?

    I propagate them through cuttings. It's easier that way.
