    Great review as usual! I'm very interested in this new pedal. I've been using a Firehawk FX for a while and really like it. Was considering upgrading to a Kemper, but don't like that it isn't a pedal board (head and pedal only). How does the Headrush models/cabs/effects compare sonically with the Kemper or the Helix? Looking forward to your response and watching the rest of the videos in this series. Keep up the good work!

    Hi Brett, this are great videos, congrats. Like it very much. But what I miss in the Videos and What I have not seen yet in any videos and information about the different views the board has. So if I want to use it on stage my prefered usage is, to have the opportunity to change/switch presets and also effects at the same view. As I have seen in the manual there is a mode named Hybrid view. Is it possible to change presets with the four lower middle buttons and then switch on/of effects for this preset with the four upper middle switches? This is essential if you have an intro with total different sound than Vers and Chorus in one song. If you have a video for that it will be great. I need that feature for my preferences to decide for that gear.

    • @giancarlopaolini7529
      @giancarlopaolini7529 7 лет назад +1

      I have had the AX8 and its main strenght especially for live use , apart from the quality of its amps etc., was the possibility to run the same patch with 8 different scenes or better 8 different sets of effects and chains of effects thus opening a pretty wide range of options. I'm not sure sure that the Helix or this new Headrush can do the same. If they don't ... mmmmh .... I'm afraid they're loosers.

      TheGuitar Person I have the Headrush, and my bandmate has the full AxeFX rack system. Comparing the two, without doubt the possibilities of the Axe are just endless. I mean you can even replace single transistors and stuff in it. With the Axe you can tweak EVERYTHING, more than in real life. But, it is four time the price of a Headrush. And you would need to bring your laptop for easy editing of the rigs. For me, the Headrush is perfect. Soundwise, I don't think it falls behind at all. Especially with the possibility to download and use IR's, which really is a gamechanger, I would really recommend the Headrush if you're on a budget. If you have 5000 dollers burning in your pocket, and need the possibility to tweak a ridiculous amount of parameters, the Axe is your best choice.

    • @tonykennedy8483

    • @manningbartlett522

      I have both (actually I have the Axe FXIII rack, and the AX8). For "Sonic experimentation" and absolutely flexibility nothing beats the Axe FX.
      But for gigging and touring, I now only take the Headrush. It sounds great, gives me everything I need, and the ease of use on stage absolutely blows the AxeFX away.
      But, everyone's needs are different, so basically... get the system that suits your needs.

    I have a question: once you configure everything the way you want it, are you able to save that setting and name it? For example: set everything. Configure it. Build your rig. And name it say, “master of puppets”? Cuz that’s the setup you’re gonna use if you play master of puppets by Metallica. And then build an entirely different rig and setup and name it “hotel California”... different rig. Different setup. Etc. and then easily go from one to the other? I play lead guitar in a church worship group. Completely different set list every week. I want to be able to customize rigs for specific songs and then call on them easily and quickly from song to song...
    Hope this makes sense. I can’t justify spending close to $2000 on the Felix or helix. Or whatever it’s called. This looks much more user friendly and honestly sounds better so far.

    • @manny75586
      @manny75586 5 лет назад

      You can do that. It goes one better, it has a set list mode that lets you put all the rigs you will use per song into a “bundle” across the pedals. So you can create a rig then put it in your set list order. It’s pretty cool. Hope that helped.

    • @goldtop362
      @goldtop362 3 года назад

      If you're playing an amp modeller into the front of an amp, you switch the amp and cab sims off. If you're going into an fx return (avoiding your preamp) then you would use an amp sim...but no cab.
      Most amp modellers have settings so that you can send your signal to a PA or an FRFR cab, using the amp and cab sims, while sending a second signal to your amp with the amp/cabs turned off.

    Can the headrush pedalboard do "sound on sound"? (one tone in heel position and another tone in toe position, and fade between the two?)

      There's a headrush demo on that actually, check out HeadrushFx channel, the demo-er puts in 2 amps and 2 cabs and blends them together with the expression pedal so on heel position amp 1 and cab 1 have a 100% mix, on toe amp 2 and cab 2 have 100% mix

      Anything with plenty of power and a very flat speaker response would do. Personally, I'd choose a CLR Active, but they're pricey. The RCF's aren't bad either. Friedman, Samson... Many companies make them. I'd look for a flat response with a 12" driver and some sort of high-pass facility to roll off subs.

    I was just thinking about the ethics of these digital fx. If I go and paint a copy of a famous new painting ( no more than 50 years old ) and then I go and sell it, it would be immoral and I would also be liable to be sued. If I took a photo of that painting and sold it I would be sued too. Now, someone exactly copying an analog circuit has been found to be the same (look at vertex effects history). If I then do what is arguably the equivalent of taking a photo (making a digital snap shot of the pedals response and audio signal aren't I infact breaking the same codes? It is an interesting discussion point for the industry and its 'consumers'
    I know the market drives things but does this make it right? I mean someone like Brian Wampler spends hours doing things the right way and actually develops an idea, creates, tests and makes it work in a production line and then some crafty computer and audio engineers essentially steal his material and rebrand it. It's not moral is it? (presuming that these digital algorithms are exact copies)
    Are the companies in discussion with each other about how much like the real thing is acceptable to both parties etc? or is it more of a case that it is seen as something unstoppable? Or is it a Fender Marshall JTM thing where Fender can't sure because they too borrowed their ideas from old tube radios?
    I like the new Boss Katana and Yamaha THRHD 100 HD as they seem to have digitally built the amp models themselves rather than copying an audio signal?
    (correct me if I am wrong)

    • @vicesquadpunk
      @vicesquadpunk 7 лет назад +1

      As an owner of several major league modellers and software emulations I can say that really none of them sound THAT good, so close that they could be construed as actually copying or taking away business from the real thing....pedal manufacturers have done a similar thing for years, with sound-a-like fuzz, delays and then theres SansAmp etc. With digital stuff just think of them as not much more than a tribute act... I doubt, like myself you would want to stop tribute bands from gigging?

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 7 лет назад +1

      I get your point, and i'm 100% in favor of protecting intellectual property, but:
      1/ This is the Music Industry, which seemingly has different rules. If Nash and Suhr can make Strat and Telecaster copies, and the Marshall Plexi was originally a copy of the Fender Bassman, and there have been a brazillion different PAF pickup copies and variations, and most pedals are just rehashes of old pedals... modeling the SOUND of a circuit, or even modeling the circuit itself can't really be an infringement. Even Brian Wampler is only making variations of older, tried and true designs. Didn't he begin by directly copying? Heck, all the pedal names are pretty much 'riffs' off of what they emulate.
      Even the Kemper.... the most literal copy of a 'tone,' can't be considered infringement any more than a microphone could be. We've had Samplers in keyboards/synths for years. We've had samples in music for years.
      Personally, i'm more offended by guitar manufacturers that steal legendary guitar designs than by amp, pedal, and modeling which all establish their own aesthetics. I mean, Fender has been marketing and evolving the Stratocaster for 70 years - a lot of money and man-hours - and some guy can just copy it? That bothers me.

    • @soundknight
      @soundknight 7 лет назад +1

      CentaurusRelax314 using the same painting style as Monet is fine or buying the same paints he used is also, just as borrowing small portions of musical note ideas is also fine but completely copying sections surely is not? Look at Boogie Amps Mark series, preamps have borrowed blackface ideas that have been adapted and gain stacked. This is OK I think. But copying the sound of the final product is simply selling a digital audio copy is it not?

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 7 лет назад

      If you search "fine art reproductions" or "painting reproductions," you find an entire industry of direct, literal copies of paintings.
      www.1st-art-gallery.com
      re: Music - there has long been an industry of samples and presets being sold that emulate classic instruments. You can buy presets that copy a Roland TR-808 drum machine, for example. Or, string patches from a Solina or bass sounds from an Oberheim. You can buy actual samples of sounds from other synthesizers. So, sampling a machine and reproducing its sound at '100%' is sorta accepted.
      Amps.... I think a lot of the boutique amp builders have been copying circuits. A Morgan or a Divided by 13 are probably based on Fenders or some such. Put it in a different shell, and it's all 'okay.' It's confusing, where the intellectual property 'lines' are drawn. Gibson famously banned PRS from making a guitar that didn't resemble its Les Paul very much, and yet now years later, those lines have been crossed. Oh - i just read that one amp company (can't remember which) actually is providing its own profiles for the Kemper! The manufacturer actually said he had heard other profiles of his amp and just wanted to be sure consumers had an accurate representation of his product. Lunacy. But, the rationalization is that people might fall in love with it and want the real thing. I kinda doubt that strategy, though.... Free, and 95%+ is kinda better than $2,000 for 100%.
