Superb. You put in so much time and energy which is apparent in the quality of the final video uploaded. Thanks for making our purchase choices a wee bit easier. 🙏🙏🙏
I've been a Line-6 guy for two decades+... The sound differences betweent the two are there, but almost meaningles as it's such a subjective thing to begin with. After I tried them both, I ended up going with the HR unit, because it sounds great AND is a joy to work with. Not having to hook it to a computer to deeply(and comfortably) edit things is huge. With 3rd part IRs being the norm now, and being where a lot of your tone comes from, having twice as many different rigs to choose from just adds to the choices one has to make, HR may have less 'stuff', but in my opinion it has the right stuff in it. Great review & playing, btw!
Thank you for making these videos. I ordered a Headrush partly because of this video. Both units sound great, but the touch screen, looper, higher quality IRs, and cheaper price of the Headrush sold me. I agree that the Helix has more options on the cab sims, but I noticed in all of these demo and comparison videos that everyone is using IRs, not the modeled cabinet sims, so the Headrush is on it's way to me! Thanks again.
Hi, you are welcome and I'm really happy to have been of some help!!! You are right....IRs are becoming more and more popular and everybody has his favorite ones. Thank you for sharing!
The most surprising part to me is that the real amps sound so much better than the models when you compare them side by side like this. But any of these units are going to be absolutely fine for live performances. The Headrush sounds a bit better to me, and the touch screen is a really big advantage when setting up rigs. Thanks for the video!
Using Helix LT I'm not satisfied. But Headrush more natural. I have full jcm800, 2x12 cab, so with IR of this cab Headrush are same with jcm800. For my ears, btw. Thanks for your video and this big job. Hi from Sochi.

@@justinTime077 I went with the helix lt and it’s beautiful and probably suits me the best since I’ve been a user of line 6 products. Have had it for almost 4 months now
Wow! they are close in sound quality but the selling factor for me is ease of programing and the Head Rush wins. Great talent and work on this video. I will purchase the Head Rush this week.
Wonderful demo. So complete. I need an integrated looper with my unit and Headrush suits the bill for me. Also I am not as tech savy as yourself and others....I need an easy rig to work...the Headrush suits me again. Thanks so much for your time and effort with this amazing video. :) Also, your playing skills are superb.
I ended up with the Headrush Gigboard. Smaller than the 2 here. I'm a bit of a noob though, it seems the Helix sounds more accurate whether using cab sim or IR. On the Headrush using cab sim, it doesn't seem as accurate if not mistaken. However IR on Headrush makes it sound more accurate. If what I said even made sense. I'm confused because I though all amps or cabs in Headrush were created from IR's.
Hi, what you are saying makes sense, absolutely. Good IRs are a key component for a good tone and sometimes the IRs that came with the pedalboard are not good enough. Thank you for your message and for sharing your experience!
Another great video! One note: I would have noted the Helix LT in the video title. Some might assume it was the Helix Floor. Personally, while I like all the extra FX in the Helix, I just LOVE the simplicity and ease of use of the Headrush products compared to the Line 6/Helix line. One big thing that keeps me from getting a multi-fx unit is the idea of having to deep-dive menus. I HATE that. After watching some videos on the Headrush, I think I could do that no problem. Definitely a much bigger PRO for me. 😃
Hi, I also love the Headrush touch screen...it's a pity that they did not develop an app in order to control the Headrush with a computer. Thank you for sharing your opinion with us!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Interesting opinion, the touch screen basically removes the need for any app since the HeadRushs is so easy to use. But what we did was include the "Hands Free Editing" which allows the users to edit anything in the chain with your feet. :)
@@HeadRushFXHi, touch screen and the hands free are really nice and great option. The point is that when I record music with my PC, my workflow is way better when I can edit with an app in the computer, without having to go back and forward between different peaces of hardware: the Headrush would stay on the floor (even not exactly close to my mixing desk) and I can change the presets and the parameters in the computer while I'm recording or re-amping. Obviously it's just my workflow and a personal opinion. Thank you for your message and for your interest in my channel!
Well, I have never tried the Core or the Prime, but I can tell you that I'm not a great fan of Headrush pedalboards....the missing computer app and the primitive cabinet simulation...in this price range...are not acceptable for me....I'm sorry.
When I bought my Headrush (upgrading from the Eleven Rack) I considered that the Helix was $700 more expensive and I decided that I don't need that many amps models, effects, etc. The Headrush covers all the bases with what it offers. The Helix offers more redundancy, if that makes sense. If money was no object, I would probably gone with the Axe Fx, but my feeling is that the Headrush offers 80% of the Helix at (1000/1700) * 100 = 59% of the price. More importantly, I serious doubt the vast majority of users could tell the difference in a true random blindfold test.
@@mahmoudelsaify7674 I think the Headrush is a huge improvement, especially if you're more than a "bedroom" player. I had to buy a midi controller for the ER and then had to assign the switches. This is built into the HR, at a savings of $300-$400. There are slightly more models in the HR than ER. There's no app to configure the HR as there is with the ER, but the touch screen interface almost compensates for it. HR upgraded to engine and added more DSP processors, so it sounds better. The custom IRs make a *huge* difference in the tone, but I use my HR with an amp using the 4-cable method, so I don't utilize the IRs.
I bought the Helix and returned it for the Headrush for two reasons: The helix didn't support delay/reverb spill when changing to a new rig/scene. It would let you do it only within the same scene when changing presets within a rig/scene. Also the headrush had noticeably lower latency when playing. It felt more natural and real whereas the Helix felt like there was a touch of latency between the time I plucked the string to the time the sound came out. It wasn't a lot, but just enough to make it feel less engaging. The headrush felt more like being connected to a real amp. I'm not 100% crazy over the Headrush's dirty tones, but no other modeler beats its clean tones in my opinion.
Hi Nick. Thanks for the comment about the latency thing. I thought it was just me. I have the PODGO and the Headrush MX-5. The HR feels more natural to me. I also like the no spillover on FX. Also the HR sounds fuller and a bit less fizzy to my ears. Definitely keeping the HR and really considering selling the PODGO. The HR has less switches which is ok because I have a Line6 HX FX I'm going to hook up to the HR via 4 cable method.
I came here to see this exact video this was the first one that popped up. First great musicianship and music. Second this has to be one of the most comprehensive videos that I’ve ever seen. Thank you. They are very similar and even though the Headrush has a bigger screen and looper I think that I will be going with the Helix. I also think that most people have their minds made up before looking. I have friends that have both and they all love each what they have. The Helix meets my needs and I already have Line6 gear. I’m paying my HD 500 pedalboard to a guitarist that had his gear stolen. Again Leo thank you for the amazing video. I will be doing my own lesson video I hope that you check them out and let me know.
Hi Michael, thank you for sharing your opinion and for the compliments, that really means a lot to me! As regards your video: sure, let us know when they are ready. Thank you once more for your message!
Very important to take into account that he uses the same settings for each model. That means if one company’s real life physical benchmark was dark, bassy, bright, or whatever, the modeled version will reflect that. I have the LT and it sounds WAY better than what is represented here. My point? Many, if not all “differences” pointed out in the comments can be dialed out. As another example I got on Fractal’s waiting list for the M9 and took delivery from one of the first batches released. I spent a week A/B’ing it against my LT. long story short I sold the M9 (at a profit-woo hoo!). It’s SO close. There is no better (within the same price point) these days given where technology is at. I saw no point in learning a whole new ecosystem just for the sake of having the newest toy. I’ve heard all of these brands sound incredible and I’ve heard them all sound like crap. These days it comes down to having good ears, experience creating patches, and knowing how to play.
In this video the Headrush blows the Helix out or the water for sound, audio quality and tone, thou they are very close on features, the Helix has a small advantage, but I will go with the Headrush because of sound quality.
I dont know what advantage Helix has, but i know the Helix has a huge flaw. DSP limit. If you plug two amps on the same line (in parallel), you cant do anything else on that line. Sure you have two effects chains on the Helix, but what if you want the delay and reverb on the end of your effects chain while keeping your distortion/overdrive/Effects on the first chain? As far as i know, the headrush allows you to use even 8 amps in parallel. Only advantage Helix would have is the number of users, since that gives me plenty of resources online to find patches and etc. Otherwise its a weaker unit than the Headrush in my opinion.
Hi, if I remember it well, I've used a Celestion IR of a celestion greenback G12M open back (for the Marshall) and a Two Notes IR of a Jensen speacker (for the Fender). Thank you for your question!
The Headrush is superior for sound; also they’ve expanded the amount of effects with a free patch... this category is irrelevant for that reason, each company will continue to add things, tweak ui features, etc. so it’s hard to predict in the long run who’s better there. Effects that aren’t useful are common once you get past 40 or so anyways. The last, and perhaps biggest reason to get the HR is the DSP power... you just don’t come across grayed out options very much like you do on the LT, and the hr is built with the future updates in mind. It has plenty of computer power to keep up with improvements for some time to come. And since most people use 3rd party IRs the mic options aren’t very important, either. Get the full HR rather than a pared down helix. Or the gig board instead of helix stomp. For the price of a full helix I got the HR pedalboard AND 2 FRFR108s. A no brainer.
@@justinTime077 maybe... but for me, I’m happy. I downloaded the latest patch and in reality the only thing I use is the ambiverb and I’ve switched out my OCDs for OCD2s... oh, the k (klon) drive shows up in one of my rigs... but really none of it was going to make our break my sound as it is... I really don’t care if they never throw out another update, unless I suppose they’ve improved something I already use, but as I stated it’s not about quantity. I’ve found a handful of great sounds for my gigging purposes and I pretty much stick with that... I’m sure most guitarists do the same... it’s the keyboard players who are guilty of changing software every show!
Both units have their own capabilities and sounds but my opinion Helix has better amps and variations of sounds that can be performed in studio or live. By watching this video I went ahead and purchased Helix LT and I love it. Thank you for this comparison 👏
The Headrush pedalboard is selling now for half the price of the Helix in Europe and you get the Headrush FrFR 108 for free that alone would costs aroung €220,00.
Tube amp wins thumbs up. My HR collects dust. I’m down to marshall jcm800 flanger wah compressor and powersoak between amp and cab. Can play in basement without scaring my cat!
Thank YOU! A very very good and well informing test imho. You are a fantastic guitarist and the equipment around you- yummi ;))) notin' compares to reality! Your test helped me a lot for a stage-solution...
Thanks! Your video is great. I have the Headrush Pedalboard. The touch screen, the interface, the drag and drop of the effects is very user friendly. Like, super easy. It is interesting that you prefer the light weight of the Helix. I like the sturdiness of the Headrush but I don't have to move it arround. The Helix has plenty of effects but sometimes less is more. I have never tried an Helix but I was surprised that it sounded that thin on the video, honestly (listening with Adam nearfield monitors and UAD soundcard). So, as you said, it is down to personal opinions. Btw, your playing is great too:) It keeps the attention of the listener.
I think the other things to mention are that Headrush has the LED scribble strips and Helix LT doesn't. That's a huge + when playing live, you can look directly at the switch, not at the screen. To get that feature on Helix, you have to spend $700 US more. The whole numbers of specific effects I think is also overrated. If there are 25 distortion pedal models, most of us will only use a few, same with most other effects. I've had a Helix for a couple of years. It's a great product, but when the next version of Headrush comes out, I'll likely give it a go. As others have said, they're pretty much all great now, so it's nice to have the problem of choosing between them. ;)
The headrush wins it for me...based on the sound and the fact it is $500 cheaper than the helix, plus an easy to use touchscreen makes it an easy choice.
Damn this is tough. I've narrowed it down to the Helix or Headrush and can swing either one money wise, but just can't decide for which one to pull the trigger. Definitely outstanding features in both units.
So glad I stumbled on your channel. These are fantastic unbiased reviews of great equipment, and your playing is CHOICE!! Thanks for what you do, friend
Headrush sounds more real to my ears....also it may have less amps and settings of mics than the helix....but there is a gap of 300€ between helix lt and headrush....headrush is cheaper and still sounds better, so I’ll go for the headrush
I have the a Headrush but I tested the Helix before i bought it. Why i chose the Headrush is because of the sound quality. Especially the distortions are more natural. With the Headrush you can hear 6 strings where the Helix makes 1 distorded electronic tone. Most FX like delay’s, chorus, etc….the Helix does good job and yes Helix has more FX. Personally i don’t use that much. I just want the basic FX and good Amp simulations….so the choice was easy. Headrush blows the Helix away…
Excellent Play! Wonderful..for me more and more it manifests that the real amp is the sound i Like most..that JCm was way superiour as the Fender when clean..the JCM does not provide "cleans" so you can keep him in the comparison Chain " clean "? Happy Easter Weekend !
Hi, yes the JCM can also provide cleans, but I would prefer to compare clean tones to the Deluxe Reverb. Thank you for your message and happy easter also to you!!!
Hi, I don't use the Helix always maxed out, even thought I didn't notice differences in the sound of the Helix rising the volume, I mean obviously it sounds louder but the tone character stays the same. On the other hand, if you maxed out the HR, it tend to become distorted: I noticed it mainly with clean tones. Thank you for your message!
This subject is so hard to get your head around. Both units are excellent but are quite different in many ways. The Helix is a "tweaker's" delight. Given 10 minutes I could make the Helix patch sound identical to the Headrush. But it does seem that out of the box, the Headrush sounds very good straight away. The helix does have a learning curve. I hated mine until lockdown where all of a sudden I had time to tweak. I discovered that my dislike was based on my ignorance of how to properly use the unit. Rule 1 with the Helix, go to global settings and set the global eq to roll off below 100hz and above 7.5khz. Then the unit starts to sound like a guitar amp instead of a fuzz pedal. There are so many other things you can adjust to sculpt your sound and I think this is part of the issue between the two units. The HR is just not as versatile, it gets 75% of the job done very well but falls short in the last 25%. Having said that, for 90% of guitarists the 75% is more than enough. I know I'd be more than happy with the HR as I'm in that 75% range myself. I'll just never need all the functionality that my Helix has. I'm very tempted to buy a HR to see if I'm right because the one HUGE drawback for me is the woefully bad looper in the Helix. If I'd known how bad it was I would never have bought it, also the tuner is poor too. Thanks so much for you excellent comparison, it has rekindled my interest in the HR. (BTW, I also use an AXE FX8 live and it sounds superior to the Helix the way the HR does in your video. It just sounds more " Ampy" and organic than the Helix - wow, I almost talked myself into an HR) Peace to all of you 😎
@@dewinchy I've got a Boomerang lll looper but the whole point of going to an "all in one solution" was that it was... all in one. I don't want to have to plug anything else in. I've just escaped pedal board hell, I don't want to go back there☺
Mike after a year with both rigs which one do you prefer? I’m considering buying the head rush atm but concerned that they don’t offer many updates or additional FX like the helix.
It's damn too tough to choose which I should buy.. As I'm an effect guy which the helix has alot more then headrush.. But I'm also a guitar tone, looping guy who likes to make his own tone and loop alot which the headrush has better sound quality then helix..
Hi, thank you for sharing! Yes, it's an hard choice....Line 6 has upgraded the cab sim with the possibility for instance to change the position of the mic across the cab....where Headrush has a pretty primitive cab sim...this for me is pretty important. Thank you!
Hi, thank you for letting us know! If you want, please share the reasons why you bought it: I think it's gonna be interesting also for other guitarists! Thank you once more!
@@LeoGibsonGtr My very good friend just bought the GT1000, and i was also prepared to get it also, But I had my eye on the HR for some time, as im useing the Bias FX software from postive grid, and im a visual person, and the HR is very close to the same view, I bought the HR, I ha got to say I also got the HR on a Sale price I just could go past, Id be happy with any top shelf PB, as its the first one ive bought..
I am very surprised to hear you pick the helix. I am listening through really nice headphones at max quality, and the Headrush sounds say better to my ears. I'm sure the Helix does a ton of crazy stuff, but I can tell it's a digital multi effects unit when running distortion. Nothing will beat the real amp/mic, but the headrush got much closer than the helix did.
love love my HR, think I might sell my Mesa Dual Rec half stack now...... not joking after playing my HR in stereo thru 108's. Cant go back to old school shit.

You are welcome Matteo! Well, I get a lot of questions about my nationality and region of origin ... I promise that if I reach 10k subs ... I will reveal the secret ...😊😊😊
The only way to truly compare tones is to play the same riffs while switching between systems . Different techniques being played, in-between switching systems doesn't provide a neutral field in which the tones can be judged fairly.
I had the Headrush for around 6 months, after which it broke.... There was a loose footswitch I wanted to tighten, because it was not registering presses sometimes. So I opened the unit to hold the swith from the inside, else it would be spinning. Put it back together and it wouldn't boot anymore only said Loading" in the screen and had an empty rig in the background. Tried everything I could find on the internet, reinstalled the firmware, left it running for almost 2 hrs in this state - nothing. It was still under warranty so I gave it to the shop I bought it from, they told me they will send it to Headrush for inspection. After almost a month I finally got an answer - the device is irreparable and since it is sold out for weeks on end they cant replace it.... Got my money back and ordered a Helix Floor Gold Edition (was cheaper than the standard black and I kinda like the contrast it has between the gold and black). I now have it for around a month and a half and man I do love all the options it has over the Headrush: Extended routing options, the built in cabs with adjustable mic distance, early reflection etc. Also the processor seems much more powerful and I can't get it to be "overloaded". I had one preset in the HR which gave me noticable latency even tho it was rather "simple": Input Gate - Pitch Shift (-3 semi tones) - Peavey - IR (Hesu 2x12 from Ola Englund) - Output As for sound neither unit is far superior in my opinion - they are pretty close to each other and on both I can create the sounds that I am after without problem. The only thing I miss from the HR is the touchscreen, that is one of the best features it had. To compensate for that the Helix can be edited with "HX Edit" from the PC which is also quite nice, because you can sit and play comfortably while dialing in a preset, instead of always bending down to the unit. Overall I think both units are excellent and it comes down to personal preference which is "better".
Hi Andreas, thank you for your very valuable experience, I think it is very useful for helping our guitar friends to make the right decision! Thank you once more!
Maybe you should of taken it too an actual repairer or even better, take it back to where you bought it and have it fixed under warranntee!!!!! Bit of a silly move on your part.
@@TheBluesine To be honest it felt kind of silly to file a warranty claim for a loose foot switch, send it across the country to the shop I bought it from and having to wait one or two weeks for something that took me 20 minutes. I had sucessfully fixed my buddys HR which had the exact same issue with the switches. Also I am quite handy when it comes to electric devices, as I repair most of the electrical devices at my house on my own and occasionally I get to repair more complex stuff(PCB's, motherboards, processors) due to my job
they're still the same engine just smaller in size and more affordable. so technically speaking its the same thing just less outer features (knobs, inputs for pedals etc)
May I ask you what do you mean? You have a comparison of all the different features offered by the unit with a comparison chart....then you have the tone compared both in a full song and then using solo tracks....
I've used analog pedals for years. I used line 6 products as digital pedals. But line 6 sounded too digital, and this time I wanted to give Headrush the chance. I don't think of going back to the Analog pedal anymore. Headrush is so realistic and natural.
Honestly I expected the Helix to be much better. Kudos to Headrush. It may have limited effetcs but the amp simulation is amazing

@@LeoGibsonGtr they may still do that
such good effort put into your review, thank you so much!
You are welcome! I'm happy that you appreciate the effort....your feedback is super important for me!!!
Hello Leo, Which one would you choose now, headrush core (or prime) or Helix.
Well, I have never tried the Core or the Prime, but I can tell you that I'm not a great fan of Headrush pedalboards....the missing computer app and the primitive cabinet simulation...in this price range...are not acceptable for me....I'm sorry.
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks sir, I agree. I just have to wait if line 6 joins the new generation of amp modelers with AI
Yes, and Helix with profiles / AI...would be great!
Thanks!
Hi Mike, thank you for sharing your opinion!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Helix here was the LT version so much cheaper.
Ive had the eleven rack is the headrush any better? Or the same tone with Just the capability of uploading custom IR ?
@@mikeaustin4138 what's the ER?
What a very well presented and informative video. I love how you get to use it as a way of perfecting your English as well ;)
Thank you, really appreciated...the English is still an area of improvement...:)...
Hi Nicholas, thank you for sharing your opinion and experience..interesting!
These days it comes down to having good ears, experience creating patches, and knowing how to play.
amazing video - great work. Thanks!
Thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the video!!
*Headrush is more musical sounding...for sure *Great Job on this video ...!!!
Thank you Dan, really appreciated...thank you also for sharing your opinion with us!
In this video the Headrush blows the Helix out or the water for sound, audio quality and tone, thou they are very close on features, the Helix has a small advantage, but I will go with the Headrush because of sound quality.
Hi Jonathan, thank you for sharing your opinioin with us!!!
Hi lei,can u tell me wich are the 2 irs you used ? Both the marshall and fender ones :)
Hi, if I remember it well, I've used a Celestion IR of a celestion greenback G12M open back (for the Marshall) and a Two Notes IR of a Jensen speacker (for the Fender). Thank you for your question!
Great reviews! Amazing quality and greatly informative
Thank you Josh, I'm supper happy that you like the video!!!
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion with us!

Yes, that'a a pretty good deal....on the other hand it's pretty unbelievable how much the Helix is retaining it's price...
@@LeoGibsonGtr yes it is. Took the deal in the end. Headrush pedalboard + Headrush FRFR 108 + Peavey head 6505 + for the same price of a Helix.

Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion and for the compliments, that are very important for me!!
In the US Helix is 600 USD more expensive than the Headrush. With that +60% difference in price, would you still prefer the Helix? Tks
Hi...good point...the difference is too high...I would have to think about it twice for sure....
The helix is more close to the saturation of the jcm but is very very muddy... I like the hr sound a lot, but it need a bit more of saturation
Hi, I do agree, at the same level the HR is less gainy... thank you for your message.
As others have said, they're pretty much all great now, so it's nice to have the problem of choosing between them. ;)
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion with us...pretty good points!
The headrush wins it for me...based on the sound and the fact it is $500 cheaper than the helix, plus an easy to use touchscreen makes it an easy choice.
Hi Craig, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Damn this is tough. I've narrowed it down to the Helix or Headrush and can swing either one money wise, but just can't decide for which one to pull the trigger. Definitely outstanding features in both units.
Hi, thank you for your suggestion!
I left a comment yesterday explaining why I chose the Headrush that you may find helpful...
I’d like a Boss GX 100 with a Headrush type screen, the screen on is is from the 1980s looks out dated

Headrush sounds more real to my ears....also it may have less amps and settings of mics than the helix....but there is a gap of 300€ between helix lt and headrush....headrush is cheaper and still sounds better, so I’ll go for the headrush
Hi John, thank you for sharing your opinion!
@@LeoGibsonGtr great demo Leo!!
Thank you!!!
best socks of all the socks tests... ;-)
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience!
@@LeoGibsonGtr thank you !
Thank you for the comparison! Do you always use the Helix with the volume knob maxed up? Is it better than keeping the volume at, say, 12 o'clock?
It just sounds more " Ampy" and organic than the Helix - wow, I almost talked myself into an HR)
Peace to all of you 😎
Thank you Mike for your message, your appreciation in the video and for sharing your experience with us!
Hi Leo, I've just ordered one...how about that😜?
You could use an external looper with your Helix if that's the problem...
What does Ir stand for?
Impulse Response: it’s a simulation of a cabinet. Thanks!
i would buy the HR for the sound quality
Ok, thank you for sharing your opinion!
It's damn too tough to choose which I should buy..

The only way to truly compare tones is to play the same riffs while switching between systems . Different techniques being played, in-between switching systems doesn't provide a neutral field in which the tones can be judged fairly.

what its the second Song called sir?
I find the Headrush sounds a little less “midi” than the Helix. Closer to the real amp. The Helix has some digital artefacts up on the higher strings.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion with us!
I now have it for around a month and a half and man I do love all the options it has over the Headrush:
Extended routing options, the built in cabs with adjustable mic distance, early reflection etc.
Also the processor seems much more powerful and I can't get it to be "overloaded".
I had one preset in the HR which gave me noticable latency even tho it was rather "simple":
Input Gate - Pitch Shift (-3 semi tones) - Peavey - IR (Hesu 2x12 from Ola Englund) - Output
As for sound neither unit is far superior in my opinion - they are pretty close to each other and on both I can create the sounds that I am after without problem.
