    ohhhh man. Geebz, Muse truly is a band you could get lost in. Their sound definitely changes over the years, matures and morphs. This is closer to an older darker style they started with. Supermassive Black Hole, Knights of Cydonia, Hysteria, Butterflies and Hurricanes.. soo many tunes you'd probably REALLY love.

      This has been my favourite album of theirs for a while (although drones was fun too). I do miss orchestral muse though, The absolution album just felt huge. I finally got to see them this year, and they played citizen erased. Eyes closed, grinning ear to ear. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. The new stuff absolutely crushed live too

      This! It's an epic and hugely ambitious piece, and I love listening to reactions from those who aren't just into rock but also orchestral, operatic and symphonic type music. There aren't a lot of bands out there who would even attempt something like Exogenesis symphony.

    Muse is definitely worthy of a long form video. So much musicianship in this band while still being one of the biggest rock bands of all time. New born, butterflies and hurricanes, fury, resistance, citizen erased, space dementia, muscle museum, I mean the list goes on and those aren't really "the hits." Also one of the best live bands of all time as well

    Muse is seriously worth a deep dive, their music and lyricism is complex and deep. There is something to cherish in every song they make and they are worth the time to wade deep into their discography. Their music made me track down and buy their physical discs like I used to in the 90's and experience the music, touch the media and read the liner notes. Storm Thorgerson has done several album covers for them, and that and their music started me collecting their CDs.

    This is a combination of the newer more electronic vibe but, bringing back an ASSASSINS type heavy guitar riff. Speaking of which, react to their song ASSASSINS.😊

    • @paramourcat
      @paramourcat 2 года назад +1

      Muse has always been pretty electronic, just different sounds over the years. You could point out something like Hyper Music from Origins of Symmetry where basically the whole song is full of arpeggiated synths. Or a bit later Take A Bow, from the same album as Assassins. Muse does like to also throw in the odd heavy riff throughout their discography. Plenty on the Drones album not that long ago. I really like the heavy bridge riff in the middle of The Globalist. Sort of by nature of the theme Simulation Theory was kind of a more dark synth vibe than a heavy guitar album I guess.

  • @kernelpickle

    Their sound on this particular song is less of a new direction, and more of a return to their earlier roots.
    I saw them live on The Resistance Tour, and I have never seen a more elaborate or insane live show in my life. I know that U2 has been known for their crazy stage setups and whatnot, but they had these guys on individual towers that were an additional 3 meters higher than the stage, and they had these lights and screens that continued into the rafters of the arena. Look up photos of their stage setup sometime, and it’s just nuts. I want to say that he was also on a turntable when he was playing piano. It was just wild. I liked Muse, but at the time I was more excited to see the opening band Silversun Pickups, but they absolutely blew me away with that show. Matt Bellamy is an absolute showman following in the footsteps of Freddie Mercury. I don’t like comparing people to legends when I can avoid it, but if the music business hadn’t been deep into decline like it was by the time Muse dropped their third album, then there’s no way they aren’t the biggest band in the world. I’m talking bigger than U2 at their peak, and the craziest thing is that it’s almost like they kinda knew it too, and that’s why they went so over the top with their stage setups and live shows.
    I don’t know if there is concert footage that would sound good, but if you can find some of them live with all the insane stuff going on, it’s worth checking out to at least get an idea what it was like visually. Actually watching it in the venue was a complete sensory overload.

    I find it funny you're taken back by the heaviness given the Muse song you reacted to previously, Stockholm Syndrome is probably their heaviest song to date.

    • @jager9022
      @jager9022 2 года назад +1

    • @tmb8807
      @tmb8807 2 года назад +1

      It's definitely Matt on the track. I was surprised he did it live - like you said he normally leaves those kind of vocals to Chris. Although having said that Chris wasn't singing some parts he used to either - their new keyboard guy Dan was doing the BVs on Assassin for example.

    Newer muse songs are interesting, but man you GOTTA listen to their older works. I believe you’d take a liking to songs like Unintended and Exogenesis Symphony, also pretty much ALL of Origin of Symmetry album

    I would suggest Apocalypse Please, or Citzen Erased. I would suggest many more, but I think those two would knock your socks off!

    Honestly Geebz, you’ve got to go in full on with muse, let’s be honest they are one of the most talented set of musicians you are likely to find, Matt is classically trained and has no limits especially with his voice, Dom has to be one of the best drummers around, Chris takes the bass to another level, please please please fo more muse, especially live stuff

    Looks like a lot of people myself included want you to dive deeper into muse, and also get a feel for Matts vocal ability. They are a 3 piece band but it's cheating as Matt's voice is defiantly a 4th instrument (singling lead guitar parts on kinghts of Cydonia or Showbiz for example, while he plays rhythm).
    As to this song, they haven't been this metal in a while, maybe ever, but there are songs on the first 5 albums main, Hullaballoo (Yes please, dead stars) and Drones that are decently heavy and it's clear in their live shows they love this sort if music, often throwing endings borrowed from other rock bands on to the end of their heavier songs. They have dabbled with varying degrees of success with pretty much every kind of music from electric pop, to dub step, power ballads, jaunty French love songs, blues covers, just trying to sound like Queen or George Michael, to classically inspired rock to just classical, but the sub genres of rock feel like home most of the time.
    Some songs to check out
    Showbiz (live at le zenith/reading 2014) - this is the song that really got me into them.
    The Globalist (Glastonbury 2016)
    Space Dementia (pinkpop)
    Knights of Cydonia (Rome)
    Assassin (Mayan 2015)
    Exogenesis symphony (lyric video, all 3 movements)
    Hope you check out a few more and after the buildup me and all the other commenters have given, you are not disappointed.

    These guys have amazing bandwidth and a HUGE catalog. They've used many of these elements in other songs, but maybe not with this intensity. By the way, many of scream/howls are preformed by the bassist on past songs. This band is worth a deep dive, and we'd get a kick out of your kind if dissection. There are great studio versions of dozens of songs and a huge RUclips catalog of live stuff. Two live tracks that would show their breadth would be 'Madness' iTunes Festival 2012 and 'Reapers' 2015 at the Mayan Theater. Then, of course, there will the dozens of amazing Muse favorites that others will be mentioning. And they'll all be worthy.

      the "screams" that Muse uses occasionally are mostly just sort of forceful talking into a heavy distortion effect. It's not the same kind of thing that most metal vocalists are doing. Not saying it doesn't sound cool, like Geebz is saying there's more effects processing on Matt's voice than normal in this song in general. Always interested to see what wild thing Muse is gonna try next. I can definitely appreciate and enjoy them borrowing some of the influences from metal over the years and sort of putting their own spin on it.

    Some suggestions: for more Muse I recommend Newborn, and for another band you've only reacted to one song from I recommend Svefn-g-Englar by Sigur Rós. Lastly, I really want to recommend A Hairdryer by The Smile.
