    I've been holding on to this song throughout my college, and even in the professional world. Although there was a time where I didn't listen to vocaloid because I thought it was time to grow up, this song literally gave me a big reunion hug back to vocaloid. It still makes me cry even to this day (and probably while typing this)

      Kinda weird. Most of us listened to vocaloid as teens or kids. I'm a 20's/30's jazz listener now, but vocaloid was my childhood. And the messages behind these songs are cool. It's a very charming genre that seems to be getting unpopular at the moment, unfortunately.

    • @sketchesofpayne
      @sketchesofpayne 3 года назад +16

      @@eustace8520 I don't understand why people have been saying that Vocaloid is dying or becoming unpopular. They just released a mobile game (Project Sekai) and made a Project Diva game for the Switch. Miku has been doing concert tours around the world every year. I've been trying to keep up with new Vocaloid music and artists, but more new videos/songs get uploaded each day than I can handle. I have a playlist of songs from over a hundred artists who only started producing Vocaloid music within the past two years.

    3:07 I think Vocaloid attracts artists who feel a need to express their troubles with mental health. It is so much easier to say these personal things through a surrogate like Miku. For example, I can write thoughts and feelings about my struggles with manic depression that I could never say out loud. One's verbal mental filter is much more strict and controlled than our other forms of expression. Once I felt the desire to record a cover of a song. There I was in an empty room, no one around, but as soon as the microphone was live I couldn't speak.
    So in some ways Vocaloid (and similar) gives a voice to the voiceless. And such a thing is going to attract a different kind of artist than the average musical extrovert who loves performing at venues. One typically doesn't produce a Vocaloid song because they want to be in the spotlight or chase mainstream trends for attention. They produce a song with this niche piece of software because they have a genuine need to express themselves. And that sincerity is what sets their music apart and gives it more impact than any of the other music I listen to. Many of the songs that Vocaloid artists have produced have made me feel closer to someone I've never met on the other side of the world than I feel towards anyone around me.

    I don’t think I’ve ever really felt the need to leave a comment on youtube before but I just wanna say thank you for putting into words so many of the reasons why vocaloid means so much to me.
    I’ve loved vocaloid since I first came across it at about 11 and it’s really hard to express to other people why it’s still so important to me as an adult. watching through your videos really validates my love for it & that i’m not just silly and childish for loving this music and the people behind it. there’s so many amazing and talented people behind these songs, thank you for taking the time to talk about them !!
    keep it up! your videos really great💕

      I often read comments from people saying they grew up listening to Vocaloid music. They often consider is a "childish" thing. It's so odd from my perspective. I was twenty-three back in September of 2007 when I listened to that very first handful of Hatsune Miku songs. At first I just thought it was cool from a technology perspective. But I've been listening ever since, along with all my other music. So many songs have come out with such sincerity behind them that they have moved me more than anything else I listen to.

    Once I started looking at ryo's musical portfolio, I saw that at the same time as he was producing VOCALOID music, he tried to push his musical career as a composer for anime Opening songs (many credit him as composer like EGOIST or more recently mafumafu), so I could only imagine if the things he described here in ODDS&ENDS about his struggles with keeping his VOCALOID career happened during his other works, it looks like it most likely was.

    This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and I decided to watch this video before sharing the song with my therapist to gain a better understanding of it. I always understood that it was the story of an underdog, and I view the Japanese version that way but- when I hear Jubyphonic's lyrics, I see it as looking in a mirror. A past self that always supported you is the one singing the song, and they may have felt betrayed in some way by your future self, whether that be you abandoned them by trying to erase your past, or something else entirely. Maybe I'm just projecting my own personal experience, but this song is hopefully going to be one of many to change my life for the better by screaming what I could never even whisper.

    Many of the Vocaloid songs that are the most important to me are the ones dealing with mental health issues because they feel like the producers are able to tap into something so raw and honest that I've rarely found in other music - and sometimes I can't help but wonder if Vocaloid as a medium makes producers feel safer getting those words out when they don't have to be the one to sing them.
    But even then, Odds & Ends is unique because instead of the person struggling being a character (like Rolling Girl) or the "I" sounding like Miku singing about herself, Ryo goes the extra mile in making the song specifically about his struggles by having the song written from Miku's perspective and having her talking about him struggling. Because of that choice he removed any possible guise about the song being about anyone else and made it so, so much more vulnerable

    Shall I say something about the only other song in the same album, Sky of Beginning? I believe it could be considered as a direct sequel to Odds and Ends constructed by Jin, yet another legend who has taken Vocaloid somewhere new. The Sky of Beginning is the hopeful, yet imperfect ending to a regular story that was initiated by Ryo'd Odds and ends. I remember the days of looping these two songs over and over so much that I wanted to purchase the album so bad (but failed to find a copy). Because of the simple fact of not being a part of the Kagerou Project, this song is MASSIVELY UNDERAPPRECIATED, so please make a video on it.

    Hatsune Miku is as real as you make her. Didn't she just make you cry? If that isn't real, then I don't know what is.

    Umum, I know this is probably a little odd, but I was wondering if you could make a video about GHOST/Ghost and Pals?

    uhh, bruhh... don't get me wrong, I really raelly ove your vids. it's just that maybe lower the bgm volume a bit more or use the instrumental versions, or atleast only when you say something really important to hear... i can't seem to concentrate on your voice sometimes because of the music, especially on this odds and ends vid. the music absorbs my attention i had to rewind a couple times to understand you >_< . . . btw keep up the good work

    Hi. Why the subtitles aren't complete? I'm not easy at listening spoken english, and I was keeping focus on the subs, but they ends at some point and I can't understand it so much what it is said.
