Our favorite DIY lady, Leanne Lee, owner of Rekindled Spaces demonstrates how to turn a tire into an ottoman. Find Step by step instructions on KCLive.tv
If you can place the tire on a turntable while you wind the rope, that part of the job will go smoothly. You can get a medium sized one in the hardware section at Home Depot for $10, and it can be used again for another project. Just think of all the kinks you get in 120 feet of rope as you try to wind it on.
Some people's just don't know what to say I have made lots of things, yes I watched videos to learn how to do it and I like watching and learning. And if she did buy a new tire so what I'm going to make one and buy a new tire. You ladies if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. HAVE A NICE DAY.
How many feet of rope did it take, and what size tire did you use? I love this project. I ordered the rope from Amazon, 100 ft for $12.00, and found free tires on Craig's list. Soooooo cool!!!
+aliyah abdullah No! Absolutely not. There is not a flush fit there. No place for glue to hold. And you cannot stick wood to metal with glue, does not work. Has to be an adequate bonding surface area, very flat on both sides, and same porous materials. Metal is not porous. Use screws. And take this opportunity to learn how to use a drill and driver, as you will need this all your life. I suggest the DeWalt 20V Drill and Impact Driver set with Dewalt drill bits and screw bits. Get the biggest 20-V Lithium batteries they sell. Look for a bundle kit on Amazon or Home Depot during Good Friday, Easter, or Xmas sales. This is an invaluable set of tools for everyone.
+Skylightatdusk I would just use a different type of rope instead of sisal. I'd use a plastic rope instead so it wouldn't be so itchy and more comfy to sit on. Plastic rope would be easier to clean, too.
Cute idea but if you have cats these will become scratching posts and won't last long. I make something like this for my cats and I have to re-twine it every few years. You can use baling twine from a farm store as your sisal rope. I buy 100 feet for $3.66. I glue it on with PL-400 calk.
I did the exact same thing when I was in high school. Probably would've been better if I had taken the wheel off my dad's car first. Boy was he mad. So was his boss. You're really not supposed to do that to a patrol car.
Yulan Ottenfwicke Did you turn the car on it's side first? I found that the front spindle makes a great turntable for winding the rope, so leave the wheel on the car until you're finished. That way you'll be done before they even finish their donuts hahahaha!
Randall S Good to know since furnishings near me need to be very robust, indeed. Ask my family. They bought my bedroom set at a military surplus heavy equipment auction. When I was seven. My current challenge is converting a collapsible tornado shelter into a sleeper sofa.
It can be done for a LOT less. I got the tires for mine for $10 each. I wanted to make a chair so I got 2 for each. Buy the rope loose, by the foot. Mine ran .12 cents a foot. My chair took 140 feet. $17. for the rope. I used recycled wood I picked up from a house being torn down for my first set so no cost there. But my second chair I had to buy plywood. I went to the scraps area at Lowe's and for the 2 pieces I needed for $2 & $ 3. each. $5. total. The liquid nails was $2.50. I didn't start with E6000 since it's way more expensive. A hint, wear gloves when working with the liquid nails - always! Master Clear is expensive! Be warned. It's about $35 for 32 ounces. The most expensive part of this project. However, Master Clear is a wonderful product you'll find not only goes a long long way but you'll use it on tons of projects. I used about 1/5th of the can for each chair. So &7. My legs I got at my local Habitat for Humanity restore and paid $2 for 4. I also picked up some big casters there for a buck each. Those I'll use on a different tire upcycle project. The total for my 2 tire stacked chair was about $50. For an ottoman it would have been about $15. less.
This was from two years ago and she's passing the idea off as hers. That is wrong . You can take your internet soldier self somewhere lady because your ignorance for not wanting the originator identified talks a lot about your character
Furthermore! People have probably been doing it before mainstream media ! But don't act like you have pulled something new out of your arse when you have seen it and been directly influenced by something and not give that person credit
LAdy please ! That's not bullying at all . Your super funny . Go somewhere. What your doing is harassing me about my opinion that's bullying . Text book definition. Have s great day !
+Randall S who said it has to be china? you can even do it for under $15. a lot of used free tires here in US, woods are free too just go to craiglist if not spend a little in home depot and the rest of the materials are cheap if its really a REAL DIY VIDEO. the reason why you do stuff like that because u want to save.
Sounds like a very stinky job! But this would be a perfect piece of furniture to decorate an already, just as stinky garage! Plus I'd suggest using an old tire that would not be usable as a tire instead of a nice tire that still could get some more miles on it before it became trash for a landfill. Then I would use it to make a stinky piece of furniture for the garage that already smells like tires!
+babylover0990 Tires are not 'stinky'. Tires have a natural rubber scent which many other things have. Used indoors, there would be no smell of burning hot rubber.
Lass-in Angeles I personally do not like the smell of rubber, so in my opinion tires are stinky, whether they are burning hot or not. If you do not think tires or rubber are stinky, that is your opinion, but my opinion is they are stinky. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this craft idea, but if I ever make one, I will not keep it in my house because of the smell, but I may place it on the deck or in the garage for use there.
She says used tire... but that sure looks like a new $200 tire. Most used tires have steel belts sticking out and are ugly and out of round... just sayin'...
Leon Taylor Well... you also commented so I guess that'd make two of us. But, apparently, KCL must have too much time and not enough content if they need to pretend to make furniture out of a "used" tire... Just sayin'...
+Dana Danarosana I found your comment useful, as this is something I want to do. I think you're right, but if you look hard enough you can probably find an old tire that will suffice. And maybe even for free, if you're kind enough to local mechanic.
Love it. We creating it with my friend jointly and loving it...

great for outdoors!
I like it. Could be used indoors or out.
Now that's awesome
Most of these comments are so mean. I wish people were nice like we used to be.
Nice look what kind thread had been used?

nice scratch for my cats!
Nice idea! Could you me know the diameter of the rope please? Thx :)
Just about the time i thought i had seen it all this popped up
Nice
my question. can you use the liquid nails to adhere the wood to the tire instead of the screws? is it strong enough, you think?

which type of glue used??
Is there an alternative to the rope, especially one that is easier to keep dust free?

Randall S If a passenger car tire makes a good ottoman does the tire from a 40 ton front loader make a good banquet table?
Yulan Ottenfwicke Nobody's gonna upset THAT table!

These should be mass produced.
Neat idea but $88 bucks is expensive for a diy project unless you can turn around and sell it for a couple hundred.
Kimtothekizzo it doesn't matter what tire you use, it can be ripped or torn to some extent and get it for less than 10$

Zoe Emiko great advice, I was estimating the price if this Diy also. Where did you buy your rope by the foot at?
Cute but if you own cats it will quickly become a scratching post :o)
They've never heard of a hot glue gun huh...
Tires have toxic chemicals in them. It's not just rubber.
it is a good idea but I woundnt use robe it is very itchy/
You might be able to use white nylon rope. Might be more expensive though.
She stole that from "that was a what!".com. I wish people would give credit where it's due
Even worst, her husband cant even cut a circle out of wood.
Dominique Ellis WOW! You two hens just stop it. She's sharing an idea for Christ sake. Stop being so hateful. You two must have miserable lives.

$88 can buy you a pre-made ottoman that won't smell like an old tire or be covered in itchy sisal.
Lisa Elle The author didn't want to send more money to China. So she bought a car tire, rope and glue instead. All made in China!
Once you get the sealant on the rope isn't itchy anymore.
be open mind you little box
Holy Hell!!!! Look at that TAAAAAN!!!
Videos
I would have clean the tire first.
Why did she get her husband to cut the wood? Didn't she do it herself?
+D She Exactly my point! Still living in the 1950's!
Wow. All you hens just stop. She's sharing an idea for Christ sake. Stop being so hateful. You must have miserable lives.
this is a stool not an otterman. An ottoman is also known as a blanket box ie you can open and store things in.
too much $$$$$
It must stink of rubber.

Prefer when the job is shown properly. Too much talking anyways.
We can get oSssm comfortable sofa here in just 50 dollars..poor video
Thats actually not stylish.
Maybe you would change your opinion if you knew that IKEA sells something very similar to this ottoman.
+sanchyka95 geez why go to ikea in the first place.
She says used tire... but that sure looks like a new $200 tire. Most used tires have steel belts sticking out and are ugly and out of round... just sayin'...
Dana Danarosana Hahahahahaha! Good one!
Randall S I'm glad you liked it... but I meant it... That would be one ugly, stinky ottoman with metal strings sticking out!
Dana Danarosana wow! you have way too much time on your hands.
Leon Taylor Well... you also commented so I guess that'd make two of us. But, apparently, KCL must have too much time and not enough content if they need to pretend to make furniture out of a "used" tire... Just sayin'...
