Yay all of the mermaids ! Well, your illustrated books made me want to add some watercolor mermaids to my sketchbook
I love spreading the mermaid obsession :)
Omg...I can't believe you added Sirena. It was my favourite book when I was 12!! I bought it again and re read it. Still a fav!
Still a favorite of mine, too!
I really need to have the first 'The Little Mermaid' story book that you first showed and 'Mermaid Tales from Around the World' because I really love mermaids and I also love the story of the Little Mermaid (both the original Hans Christian Andersen version and the Disney version)
Huzzah, mermaids :)
I was obsessed with The Littlest Mermaid growing up! My copy fell apart by the end because I read it so much. I recently picked up Lorali, so I can't wait to hear what you thought of it.
I've already talked about it in my BookBuddyAThon wrap up video! (ruclips.net/video/54hB7YttXOI/видео.htmlm48s) :)
Well, this goes to show that I shouldn't start with the most recently posted videos in my "Watch Later" playlist, haha 🙈
ItsJaneLindsey Don't worry about it! I shouldn't film videos a month in advance :)
Gorgeous collection.
One of my friends has a mermaid obsession, so I have a slightly heightened awareness of them in art and literature.
Mermaid by Carolyn Turgreon is one of my faves. ("Gritty" The Little Mermaid retelling.) Plus, pretty cover.
Thank you very much for the recommendation :)
I HATE SUMMER TOO. But I love mermaid books. Lorali is great, I read it last year on a summer holiday to Wales on the beach xx
I liked Lorali and was glad I read it, but I couldn't figure out how the mermaids smoked and drank martinis underwater :P
oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan i love mermaids so much im obsessed
HUZZAH! :D
Such a lovely and varied collection. So many of these titles sound wonderful.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Oh yes! As a dark-haired, green-eyed gal, I totally know exactly what you mean! I also struggled finding anything with my name on it, as everything was Rebecca and not Rebekah. Ugh! The struggles pre-teen me had to face! The Merbaby looks so cute! I used to love mermaids when I was little, always pretending to be one when I was swimming. Good times.
Swimming pools were as close to mermaidom as I got as a preteen, too :)
Amanda Center
i did a lot of swimming in lakes and rivers, so the fish and underwater plant life really helped keep the dream alive.
RubyLovesRocket The water fauna and flora would have scared me as a kid :) You're just more mermaid than I am!!
Amanda Center
LOL! That would make a great graphic tee "More Mermaid Than You"...I kind of want to make one.
I've never read a mermaid book! I now really need it in my life. I think I want a YA book with mermaids, or something with pirates, so Lorali sounds perfect!
You can check out my mermaid shelf on Goodreads for a few more mermaid YA recommendations. There's Cruel Beauty or Monstrous Beauty, something like that, and the Of Poseidon trilogy to name a couple :) Haven't read those yet, though.
Amanda Center Cool, I will! ;D
I might have bought two books after seeing your collection to add into mine. So i'm wondering from a mermaid collector to an other...could you lease do a update video about your collection?
I might in the future, but these books are definitely my favorite ones :)
I know this is an older video, but if your interested in recs, I highly reccommend "Mermaid" by Carolyn Turgeon. It's the best mermaid/ retelling I have ever read. It's very dark and profound and I just love it!
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation :D
Freshwater mermaids (nausea) have typically two tails and saltwater mermaids have one tail. I do not know who made up the rule but it goes back to ancient Greece at least.
Omg 12-year-old Amanda Mermaid books?! Can't wait to check this out! ^______^ Love this video! There is clearly a lack of mermaid books in my life and I need to fix this.
A lack of mermaid books is a real problem :P
If you are not aware of it but I think you need to try and find My Sister Sif by Ruth Park. Ruth Park is Australian and it was one of my favorites as a kid. They are not the traditional mermaids but its really good. If you cant find it let me know and I will find you a copy!
Thanks so much for the recommendation :D
"If there wasn't a mermaid tail, it wasn't my favorite" -- LOL - Isn't that a bit true for everything you read, though? Loved this collection and like hearing you say the word: 'Merbaby'- Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching :)
2000 SUBSCRIBERS! CONTRATULATIONS! It's about time you did a video about mermaids. Did you know that mermaids were (are) a species of extraterrestrial aliens? Fun and enthusiastic video! I liked how you showed many of the illustrations. Please clarify that we didn't make you swim from the coast all the way to Catalina, all 26 miles. I need to see "Captain Nash."
If you click on the secret link in the video description you can see me read Captain Nashe to you :)
First of all, congratulations on 2000 subscribers! Second, I know you love mermaids but what are your feelings on selkies (from Ireland)? You might like the film The Secret of Roan Inish if you haven't seen it. And I totally feel you on the dark hair thing. I have dark hair and eyes and so when I found a character in a book that looked like me it was so exciting!
I think I've seen Roan Inish. Selkies are the next best thing to mermaids, really. Have you seen Song of the Sea? It is the most beautiful animated children's film I've ever seen and it centers around selkies :)
I read Sirena about a million years ago and I remember really liking it! I'm thinking I need to re-read it. There are just not enough mermaid books out there! By the way, have you watched or read "Aquamarine?" It's this super cheesy teen movie where one of the girls is a mermaid and her human friends have to stick her in a water tower at night when her tail reappears...the kids I used to babysit where obsessed that film so I've seen it probably one two many times but I didn't think it was awful just MASSIVELY cheesy. If you don't mind cheese you might get a kick out of it. :D
I've read Aquamarine, but got rid of my copy because I didn't love it :) Perhaps I'll check out the cheesy movie sometime!
Wow this is such a beautiful collection you have :) x
Thank you :)
Hoorah for merpeople!! I am with you in the hot-hating thing, here we have already reached 30°C during the day...it's a nightmare, I will go to the pool and pretend to be a mermaid to cool down a bit! ;)
If I could, I would join you in the pool/mermaid heat relief :)
I have been so curious to pick up a mermaid book, I've never read one before. Particularly a novel. I feel like there's a dearth of good ones. So I'm so excited to add Serena to my list! :)
There IS a dearth of good ones. Sirena is a great place to start, but keep in mind I read it 13 years ago... :)
+Amanda Center (IntrovertX) haha! I'll keep that in mind. :)
I’ve read several of those books! Sirena is one of my faves. Have you read the “Emily Windsnap” series?
I haven't, but am putting it on my list!
Those books are beautiful!! :)
I agree :D
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Welcome, I'm working on a mermaid game so this is a great help!
You should read the waterfire saga by jennifer donnelly. It's wonderfull
Thanks for the recommendation :D
U need to read the waterfire saga: book1 deep blue, book2 rogue wave, book3 dark tide, and book4 sea spell by Jennifer Donnelly they're the best mermaid books ever in my opinion
I'll check them out :)
Hi Amanda! I just wanted to ask, what was the process like for you to become a Canadian citizen?
Amanda Nikita I’m not a Canadian citizen. I tried to get permanent residence, but was unable to because I was American and doing unskilled labor as a caregiver :/
Have you read the Amanda Hocking series "waterfell"??
I have not - do you recommend it?
Amanda Center sorry - Watersong! Yes, I liked it a lot ☺
:)
Be
You are not fat I think you look fine I love your videos by the way
Thanks!
