***** And it all began with Civilization Revolutions (look it up if you didnt play it, its the first of the truly dumbed down pieces of trash that began the decline of Sid Meier).
Well, that's what they marketed it as... Sub par space game made as a companion app to an average turn based strategy doesn't have the same ring to it.
I honestly can not believe that someone could stand playing this for over an hour. I am impressed and bow in reverence to Jesse. Well done, very well done.
Jesse and everyone else in the comments seemed to think that this game looked dumb. Sure, it might not have as much polish as Meiers' other gems, but it looked fricking fantastic to me!
depends on what it's trying to do. for example, Gratuitous Space Battles is 2D top-down game, but it's not trying to realistically simulate space, just give fans of space combat a flashy experience. Homeworld did a 3D combat zone, but having played a little of it, I hated the control scheme.
Geoffrey Peterson Yeah, even Sins of a Solar Empire is, in essence, 2D. Maybe it'll be easier to implement controlling fleets of different ships in three dimensions using some kind of VR technology.
Bier Bart My guess would be VR instead of mouse and keyboard, like the Occulus Rift or Morpheus. But that would also require some kind of powerglove technology.
Heh, was just thinking about how giving all of your ships a torpedo would have made the second turn of each battle a 'splosion fest, and if you can give them more than one, yeah, that spread would be able to cover darn near every important angle, and you'd mop up.
"Or Harmony when the aliens have sort of corrupted them" no no jessie, no no no, it seems you haven't accepted the giant Space Moth into your heart. We seek only peace and prosperity on the planets we live on, to be one with their native inhabitants. All are welcome to join the Harmony. *RESISTANCE IS FUTILE CONFORM TO THE MIGHT OF THE SPACE MOTH OR BE ANNIHILATED.* We only wish to live in peace. :)
This game has a ton of potential, with a good base built, it could be great if the next one they make is much more flushed out with more mechanics, otherwise they will have wasted the potential for them to make a good space civ.
Ethan it's more like a extremely simplified Galactic Civilizations 2, but it just awful I'd rather just play Endless Space or Galactic Civ 2 myself. There is really no reason for these crappy games they are putting out, since 4x games are becoming pretty common now.
You mean the companion app game made for mobile platforms doesn't hold up to a legitimate spaceship sim game? LE GASP. Of course it doesn't, nor is it trying to.
I would love to play it, except the shit devs can't even patch an error affecting over 50% of their player base. I get to the two logos screen, and it crashes. I've tried this across 3 different OS's, and doesn't work. Devs refuse to help further, despite me following all their instructions....
Would've liked them to make an expansion to Beyond Earth to address some issues instead of making a mobile game spinoff. Remember Civ 5 was also awful at launch, BE better get those kind of updates and not abandoned so they can do mobile.
The game looks simple enough and I can see this game appealing to new comers into the RTS genre. The only that concerns me is the price tag on this game, because it would be ungodly difficult to justify a $60 USD price tag. I feel that $15-20 USD fair price for this game, if it costs more than that then I could see this game being torrented to hell and back.
I see potential in this. I think I'm with everyone when I say the worst sin you can do in a space RTS (such as SINS or Homeworld) is put activatable specials on a ship. But my god this game could use it, boring as shit game play, and one fleet! I mean it looks nice, handles fine, ect. Overall It feels like a test run game (no shit). It seems like the devs relied to much on the remake and live history crutch. IDK what do you guys think?
I was interested because it looked like a fun little casual space combat game that isn't super complex. A good pass-the-time space game with progression. And thought this hour long vid was just a segment of the game. Till I reach the end and realize that he literally beat an entire game of it in an hour. There was no maxing out your ships to be giant cruisers. There was no time to really do huge important upgrades. Hell, a game of FTL lasts me longer than this would and makes me think more. Disappointing, cause it looked promising at first.
Combat Fritos Thumbnail says "Game-O-thon", title says "Game-A-thon". Someone toootally deserves to lose their job for a screw-up of THIS magnitude! /s
Who is this game for? It's obviously not for Civ fans. Any noob Civ player would wreck this game it's so easy and simple. Probably for children aged 6-12? Nah, there's too much written stuff. We're reaching 'Spore' levels of wasted opportunity here.
I gotta admit, I loved the intro:
"Hey guys, I'm playing this game...
It fucking sucks."
Yeah, that's basically the translation of what he said.
i thought gaem looked cool :( unlike all the other boring ass civ games stuff was actually happening
'Boring ass civ games'
Who let the plebian in this partician meeting?
Someone fire the centurions
Collin Horswill Trust me they won't fuck up again, they seem to have met an untimely death.
The gradual dumbing of Sid titles.
Sid Meiers' SPACE 'N' STUFF
Sid Meiers' SPHEES

***** Your avatar... All I can think of is Retsupurae playing Ambition."You kids get on out of here, or I'll blow us all to hell!"
SPESS MEHREENS!

Cherno Alpha
Civilizations: Dawn of Awesome
Imagine this had been like Sid Meier's Pirates in space...would have been epic.
Well, that's what they marketed it as...
Sub par space game made as a companion app to an average turn based strategy doesn't have the same ring to it.
49:29 Jesse became a cat?
Well, Jesse has admitted to being a cat on the Podcast.
***** I'll see you in another life when we are both cats.
I honestly can not believe that someone could stand playing this for over an hour.
I am impressed and bow in reverence to Jesse. Well done, very well done.
I don't know but I love watching Jesse play this kinda of games especially if its all fit into a single video.
I'm loving the robot humans thing, its like the Borg only with an emphasis on personal individuality.
Jesse and everyone else in the comments seemed to think that this game looked dumb. Sure, it might not have as much polish as Meiers' other gems, but it looked fricking fantastic to me!
Anyone else think it's bullshit that space combat games still restrict to a two-dimensional battlefield? :-P
That's the 1st thing I thought of when I 1st saw this game... it's fucking lame...
depends on what it's trying to do.
for example, Gratuitous Space Battles is 2D top-down game, but it's not trying to realistically simulate space, just give fans of space combat a flashy experience.
Homeworld did a 3D combat zone, but having played a little of it, I hated the control scheme.
There yet has to be a good way to make a 3d space strategy game not feel weird.
Geoffrey Peterson Yeah, even Sins of a Solar Empire is, in essence, 2D. Maybe it'll be easier to implement controlling fleets of different ships in three dimensions using some kind of VR technology.

Jesse made this game look a LOT better than when Angry Joe played it. I may actually get it now.
This game's estimate of winning a battle is really really terrible
100% chance of success.
DEFEAT
Almost every 30% chance to win is actually a 100% chance unless you're really really bad

What happened to skyrim
This actually kind of looks like the space age gameplay from Spore.
Actually why didn't they just add this onto Civilization:Beyond Earth?
This game looks pretty awesome.
Its not.
T'hat King
Darn
Bier Bart He beat a sid meier game in an hour. That's... that's unheard of. This game is far from worthy of the name sid meier.
Constantine III
Well, if it's about the playtime..
I once beat a Civ V game in 10 minutes, does that make it a bad game?
Bier Bart Care to elaborate as to how? Most games take hours upon hours to beat in civ.
I want this game, looks cool
for a game about fighting space ships, the space ship fighting is surprisingly lackluster.
If only this game had the complexity of Master of Orion ...
As simple and easy as it looks you made it look Awesome :)
Love the fact that he won via population
The thumbnail is really cool

Only a few minutes in, but so far it seems to be a bit like a combination of the space stage of Spore and Sid Meier's Pirates, except simpler...
Space. The Final Frontier.
These are the tales of the Starship Butterfly.
***** It's continuing mission: to boldly fly where no butter has flown before.
This game has a ton of potential, with a good base built, it could be great if the next one they make is much more flushed out with more mechanics, otherwise they will have wasted the potential for them to make a good space civ.
This game could have been so awesome.
Wheres the Jesse tries England video?
is it just me or is this basically the spore space phase in a single game?
So if you do this again can we have a webcam?
Holy shit, pretty sure they based the Colony Ship model off the one for the mod Final Frontier fro Civilization 4!
There is an app version of it.
It originally shipped for the iPad
It is from iOS. It's a port.
I have to agree with the other comments. It looks like a interesting game, and doesn't run as slow paced as some of the other civ related games.
Wait... Could the transport ships fire back???
So it's like an extremely simple and easy version of FTL?
FTL is nothing like this. No idea where you're coming from.
...It has you controlling a ship?
Ethan This game has very little in common with FTL. Pretty much nothing in common.
Ethan it's more like a extremely simplified Galactic Civilizations 2, but it just awful I'd rather just play Endless Space or Galactic Civ 2 myself. There is really no reason for these crappy games they are putting out, since 4x games are becoming pretty common now.
doesn't hold a candle to Kerbal Space Program
You mean the companion app game made for mobile platforms doesn't hold up to a legitimate spaceship sim game? LE GASP.
Of course it doesn't, nor is it trying to.
KSP doesn't hold a candle to Audiosurf.
Bier Bart Pffft. You scrubs. Asteroids master race
do axiom verge next!
yay
When are you gonna get home again?
Nice profile picture there! :D
pls gie me a link to this game
#YOGOF - You only get one fleet.
This would be cool as a tank fighting game. o.o
Make more Leo and Satan!

0xffox lol.
Firaxis has really dropped the ball recently. They don't make polished AAA masterpieces anymore.
What do you mean there's only a few comments right now??
Are you ever going to play diversity with crendor again
Kind of reminds me of a simplified master of orion. Which isn't a bad thing really.
Would've liked them to make an expansion to Beyond Earth to address some issues instead of making a mobile game spinoff.

I can't believe I like you enough to watch this 😜
Dam in the comment section early today
Haha only 4 comments never been this early before.
Gotta say, this game does not look like it's worth the money. Kinda shit for a sid meier game really
Better fire your artist. Thumbnail says "Game-o-thon"
so does the title, pretty sure that was jesse's intention
Read them again. Go letter-by-letter if you need to.
