Haha. Giggled at this a bit. Knowing this is an intended pun, just for clarification; They don't go "crazy", they get stressed. And max stress leads to crazy. :) (as in real life as well, a lot of stress may lead to you developing some... lesser, or greater, problems with your mind.)
DamnDaimen you have to be pretty unluckily to actually completely wipe, but it's fairly easy to get to an unrecoverable position is you're bad. early on, if you're on unlucky or stupid, it means a complete restart.
TheShinyDunsparce Well...he did 2 missions and no one died...I've never played this, but that's pretty good, right? Is there a time limit or something I am not aware of?
I go back and watch this from time to time. It's fun to notice the changes developers made on gameplay and UI. And Jesse's jokes and reactions to things always make me laugh even after hearing them a hundred times :D It's all about the delivery :) Paper. Reading. NOOO xD
What a brilliant upload Jesse. I could not stop laughing and agreeing with your calls on your party member with the mask, he was freaking the hell out!
Having already posted a few episodes on my channel it's rough watching people who don't know what they are doing start this game. It takes a bit to learn how everything works and all the mechanics.
His party placement is horrible. The vestal is at the right spot along with the crusader. Just what the fuck is his plague doctor doing in the second to front. They need to be at the very back to get their best abilities. Secondly the highway can't do grape shot and needs to be second in front. Grape shot is so good that it hits three enemies at once.
Snowman0147 Actually, the plague doctor does his most damaging ability where Jesse had him originally. Grenades are weaksauce early on, while his dagger does stupidly good damage and bleed and has a decent crit chance.
The narration and music is excellent, story a bit cliche but well executed and the gameplay mechanics are original. Not just simple combat but party management as well, trying to keep everyone sane. Love it.
LOVE this game! But... Early Access... but looks pretty much complete... but still early access... So conflicted whether to wait for "release" or buy now and contribute to the spread of the early access phenomenon.
TheScarletInfector The problem is that if I play/finish it now (while it's in early access), there is very little chance that I would go back to it once it's fully done. Especially if it takes 2 years. I'd rather play through the full thing than a "teaser", but that's the logic talking. The gut says "must play now!" :)
HungryHitmen Fair enough, they are already adding 4 more classes and I think 2 new dungeons soon. Also because of the "roguelite" nature of this game it is designed with replay ability in mind. Do different playthroughs, like no torches or no healers or only healers, use only crit trinkets or only tinkets that lower your accuracy to increase the challenge. Also if you aren't careful you can run you of money and if really unlucky run out of hero's so you literally can progress and have to restart.
TheScarletInfector I can see how running out of money would be bad (no food, supplies, stress rest) but run out of heros? You mean losing high lvl guys and having to train newbies?
Jesse, Keep in mind that the people have certain ranged on their abilities. and it would be better to have people with more ranged abilities in the back where the others who thrive on melee are in the front
Ethan Cline Plague doctor was actually in a decent spot for early on play as his grenades didn't seem to do too well at that start, but the dagger ripped through enemies quite well. Later on when you upgrade the grenades I'm sure their effects work wonders, though. o:
Series please! This could be a really fun series for you. I mean I like your AAA series but games like this in my opinion is where you thrive because you can take the good stories this games have and make them so much better with your odd ball (in a good way) humor.
Everything about this game is exquisite. The atmosphere, narration, aesthetic, all of it! It reeks of Lovecraft and Poe in the best ways! I'd say that alone warrants a purchase from me. And I would be honored to see more of this gem from you Jesse, thank you.
I don't understand people complaining that there is too much RNG. That's kind of the point. You are supposed to get fucked over in this game. It's almost impossible to have party members last all the way until all the bosses are defeated. It's why hiring new members is free. The only "failure state" (as TB would put it) is if you run out of money; even then you can attempt to do a run with no torches or food and hope you make it out with some cash. Everyone is going to die. Literally everyone. Most people won't even move onto level 5 dungeons until your 4th or 5th generation of heroes. If that doesn't sound like your kind of game than don't play it. They could stand to lessen the stress hit on crits by a couple points on level 3 dungeons and higher. That shit's brutal.
The problem is that with too much RNG, you feel less accomplished. If I take out a boss because of tactics and skill, I feel like it's my success. Too much RNG and it just becomes die and die over and over until you get lucky.
Well, I'm a bit late for this comment, but for anyone reading this I just want to let you know that much of the bad rng can be mitigated. When I first started playing I thought it was more random than tactful, but after playing it for nearly 100 hours I can tell you that your choices definitely matter much more than the rng. Also, when you get good at the game it's very rewarding.
This world is filled with a overbearing musk of terror, exuding it from every pore like a plague victim. You slink around the darkened halls hoping that the undead horrors that used to be your friends won't rip you apart and drink your blood. The nauseating weight of the dungeon feels like a noose around your neck. Hoping that you won't crack under the pressure and cry in a dusty corner. That your soft whimpers won't attract anything and hasten your inevitable doom..... Hey this looks like it could be Alot Fun!
Jesse, I cannot believe how lucky you are. Every single time I opened an iron maiden the door would shut on it's own and the person that activated it gained stress and a bad trait.
Some tips for you Jesse if you decide to play again, just spend some time looking at all the characters and what their abilities do. Also, this is different for everyone but I like to have my light above 75 as much as possible for better scouting and bigger chance to surprise enemies. Food should be saved for when the party gets hungry OR to make sure one of your doods isn't on death's door. Also, positioning of your party is key! but you'll figure that out once you look at your party's attacks and which ones can only be used if they are at certain spots in the party line up and also what kind of enemies they can hit and how many on the opposing line.
Jesse, your party members have a preferred position in the party that allows them to optimize their abilities. For example, you wanted to keep the highway man in the third position in order to "protect him". However, by having him in the second position, the ability "open vein" would have been available to you.
The dialogue in this game is just amazing. I mean it's kinda obvious the script-writer just had a thesaurus nearby (I don't think anyone without a thesaurus even knows "antedeluvian" is a word), but it's still some of my favorite dialogue I've heard in a game.
Probably the best thing to consider with your party is where their abilities work in your formation and and where they can target on the enemy's position. Take the Leper for example, his abilities can only be used in the front 2 spots and only target the front two spots of the enemy. Lepers HATE being pushed to the back and being ambushed. I had to abandon a quest because my one Leper was constantly being juggled around my formation disrupting everyone. It was bad synergy for that dungeon's monsters.
I hoped the Cultist Acolyte would improve Jesse's positioning. I guess that he was able to crit her with his first attack is the game being its usual self - it sacrificed a pawn to keep Jesse messing up.
Hey Jessee, read the characters decription. Some prefer certain positions. Example: if you switch birdman with makrsman, they have better chance for success
I know every lets player and their cats are doing Darkest dungeon LPs, but I'd still love to see Jesse get on the wagon as well. Though he needs to check the stats more closely if he plans to do that (right click on heroes to see positions and target prefs, stun resists and so on)
I love the writing, and game mechanics. The sound quality is top notch, and the fact that they got Optimus Prime to narrate is amazing. I like the colorful art style. The game looks like it was drawn on one of those felt posters, but also, I am simultaneously turned off by it. Maybe if it didn't look like 300 I would appreciate it more. I'm on the fence with this game, still after watching you and Jim Stirling play it.
Jesse, I noticed you have problems doing all the moves for a some of the characters. It would probably be a good idea to move them to a different position. Also don't eat all your food. It's meant for when your team is hungry or to be used to heal your party at campfires.
Just so people know, there are some issues with people running the game and the devs have made a couple posts on the forums. Other than that it seems that this one of those Early Access games in the "worth it now" category. Based on what I've seen, Early Access for this game is in the adding more content to the game. I'm personally going to wait but I'm definitely going to be keeping my eye on this game.
"Usually you pick games to make me suffer. But not today!"
Oh, no, Jesse. No, we still want you to suffer. And you will in Darkest Dungeon.
The best Narrator I have ever heard. Whoever wrote his lines was a genius.
His accent is really on point
A man in a robe, claiming commune with the divine . . .
. . . madness
Hehe
I still like Bastion's narrator the most. But this guy is good also.
I still love BBT narrator
He says things I can imagine the soul caliber announcer saying
"You usually pick games to make me suffer. Not today."
Oh Jessie...
Knight loses his mind when he finds a tent?
That must have been fucking in tents. (ba dum tss)
I broke into your house and saw what you did there.
You son of a bitch
That was terrible and yet glorious
Haha. Giggled at this a bit. Knowing this is an intended pun, just for clarification; They don't go "crazy", they get stressed. And max stress leads to crazy. :) (as in real life as well, a lot of stress may lead to you developing some... lesser, or greater, problems with your mind.)
Was that joke intent?
what lore is this rum?
Full playthrough on the channel, Jesse.
The internet demands it.
"Usually you pick games to make me suffer - not today. Not today!"
Oh, Jesse... you poor poor optimist...
So much salt, so much "McDonalds fries" levels of potential salt
A stream will allow us to bask in your insanity
ahha. So true. Im salty even without having play the game, I can see Jesse bad play everywhere. ^^
So salty my kidneys failed and now i am on dialysis.
He actually did okay. No deathes.

ITS RELEASED! PLAY MORE!
My god I love this game so much. I have been playing it since the early access was released. So glad to see you playing it as well!
You can watch this or play this while listening to "It's terror time again" on loop and it never gets old.
Never played this game before, but Jesse seems to be doing some pretty dumb shit.
THIS is accurate
Killingglorie yes.
Snowman0147
Jesse always plays games poorly. He's too busy farting out jokes to actually read, or see or think. :P
Snowman0147 Actually, the plague doctor does his most damaging ability where Jesse had him originally. Grenades are weaksauce early on, while his dagger does stupidly good damage and bleed and has a decent crit chance.
probably the strangest part about all this is that jesse did the fan friday on time.
The narration and music is excellent, story a bit cliche but well executed and the gameplay mechanics are original. Not just simple combat but party management as well, trying to keep everyone sane. Love it.
They get the blight? Are the Darkspawn coming?
quick, notify the wardens!
BY THE MAKER!
BY ALL THAT IS HOLY
ANDRASTES TITS!
Flee! Flee for your lives. Thedas is lost!
Those fan Friday intros just keep getting better and better. Lol
LOVE this game! But... Early Access... but looks pretty much complete... but still early access... So conflicted whether to wait for "release" or buy now and contribute to the spread of the early access phenomenon.
The devs said they want to spend at least 2 years more on development the game so you could be waiting a long time
TheScarletInfector The problem is that if I play/finish it now (while it's in early access), there is very little chance that I would go back to it once it's fully done. Especially if it takes 2 years. I'd rather play through the full thing than a "teaser", but that's the logic talking. The gut says "must play now!" :)
HungryHitmen Early access is expected to end sometimes in the 2nd half of 2015. They just intend to support and add even after the full version.
Jesse, Keep in mind that the people have certain ranged on their abilities. and it would be better to have people with more ranged abilities in the back where the others who thrive on melee are in the front
don't bother, it's Jesse. If he ever makes a playthrough it would still take 20 episodes for him to start understanding the game.
i suppose your right... I was just hoping against hope that he would figure it out.
Ethan Cline Plague doctor was actually in a decent spot for early on play as his grenades didn't seem to do too well at that start, but the dagger ripped through enemies quite well. Later on when you upgrade the grenades I'm sure their effects work wonders, though. o:

I really like this comic book artstyle with the heavy use of black shadows.
If you stream it, please upload vods.
That was flat out adorable Jesse. "Usually you guys pick games to make me suffer." Just the way you said it almost sounded miserable. xD
it's always cringey watching jesse play games like this but i still love it
Would love to see Jesse revisit this now that it is out an has a few DLC's under it's belt.
Stream this Jesse! I'll watch the hell out of it.
Play more of this!!! It was great and suspenseful to watch!
I don't understand people complaining that there is too much RNG.

Jesse's more stressed than the Plague Doctor and Hellion.
I would love to see a let's play series, complete with horrible planning and rage
This world is filled with a overbearing musk of terror, exuding it from every pore like a plague victim. You slink around the darkened halls hoping that the undead horrors that used to be your friends won't rip you apart and drink your blood. Completed the quest & got 4 crests... now straight to the brothel to get some breasts.
Hope you keep playing this, I'd like to see more people giving it some recognition 8D
For those wanting to know, the narrator is Wayne June. He does audio book narration of Lovecraft.
Fan Friday?
On Friday?
IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Narrator makes this game worth the buy alone!
Madness? This...is...SPARTA!
Plz play more of this :)
Ditto the narrator being awesome. Best Narration ever!!
please make this a series. it is awesome
This seems like a game you will scream your lunges out at and love every minute of it ^^
The dialogue in this game is just amazing. I mean it's kinda obvious the script-writer just had a thesaurus nearby (I don't think anyone without a thesaurus even knows "antedeluvian" is a word), but it's still some of my favorite dialogue I've heard in a game.
The intro has overtones of H.P. Lovecraft's tale "The Rats in the Walls." Looks awesome.
Narration in this game is by Wayne June. He does readings of Poe and Lovecraft on audiobook.
Probably the best thing to consider with your party is where their abilities work in your formation and and where they can target on the enemy's position.

Such a damn good narrator
Please do a play through of this game!
That would be so awesome.
I would be super happy if we got a stream of this.
Dude. Make this a series. For god's sake, make this a series! Pleeeease!
"Usually you pick games to make me suffer, not today". Oh no Jesse, this game will haunt your dreams. It will make you suffer.
I definitely want to see more of this
Somewhere, Jack Chick rubs his hands together gleefully about his prediction coming to pass. Dark Dungeons, indeed! *smirks*
streaming, lets play, doesnt matter, just more of this! please!
This game looks pretty fun, and with a great opening monologue!
Amazing game, been playing it non-stop since "release". You should stream it Jesse!
Whoa, a fan Friday on a Friday? Nice cox
"You guys pick games to male me suffer, not this time."
Me- oh Jesse you have no idea.
I hoped the Cultist Acolyte would improve Jesse's positioning. I guess that he was able to crit her with his first attack is the game being its usual self - it sacrificed a pawn to keep Jesse messing up.
Why is Fan Fraturday early?
I know, Fan Friday on a Friday? This is madness.
Jesse please record more of this!
after watchting this this morning I immediately bought the game and haven't put it down since...that was like 6 hours ago
Please do stream this Jesse. Would be great to see what you learned off camera and also what sort of shinanigns you get into.
Hey Jessee, read the characters decription. Some prefer certain positions. Example: if you switch birdman with makrsman, they have better chance for success
Now THIS is an early access game worth getting
This game is so great, you should definitely stream it!
jessie. this needs a PLAAAAAAAAAY THOUGH! come on buddy i know you love story doled out slow like this.
Please yes stream!!! I'm so down for that!!! I love this game!
You should make a series of this, it'd be nice to have a serious game going
I want to see you play this game whether it's on your channel or on twitch
Jesse, I am so down for you steaming this game this weekend.
i love this games art style its very fitting for the game, i also love the kind of lovecraftian stuff in this game
i would totally be down for a darkest dungeon stream!
Literally opens a chest labeled "trapped chest" with the flavor text "something doesn't seem quite right about this one."
I know every lets player and their cats are doing Darkest dungeon LPs, but I'd still love to see Jesse get on the wagon as well. Though he needs to check the stats more closely if he plans to do that (right click on heroes to see positions and target prefs, stun resists and so on)
please make this a full series
I like this game for the Game of Thrones-esque, ''You're favourite charcter was just brutally murdered, sucks to be him.''
Absolutely stream this
I love the writing, and game mechanics.
Please make more of these!
This just screams Lovecraft, dosn't it? Or, more specifically, the Rats in the Walls, It's pretty cool :D
Would be awesome to see more of this game :)
Would LOVE to see more of this. give you a respite from all the HotS stress! ;)
The game has left Early Access!
Crendor did a great video on this game, do i even really need to watch yours Jesse? Btw, he didnt even put you in his party but he added Dodger.
This game looks just awesome. The story has a strong Poe/Lovecraft feeling and the art could be done by Mike Mignola(Hellboy)
Jesse, I noticed you have problems doing all the moves for a some of the characters. It would probably be a good idea to move them to a different position. Also don't eat all your food. It's meant for when your team is hungry or to be used to heal your party at campfires.
>no one in party has more than 2 bars of stress
"were going insane"
oh jesse you poor bastard. if only you knew
A stream of this would be pretty fantastic!
This game is amazing and a stream would be cool. Also an announcement video of said stream would be nice
Holy molly a stream of this game would be so amazing.
Just so people know, there are some issues with people running the game and the devs have made a couple posts on the forums. I'm down for the stream!
Did it happen already? I'd be late for it anyway, let's be honest. But I'd catch the vod.
GAme looks awesome, but gona wait for full release. Apparently it is missing a ton of content still, and about half an year for planned release.
Hell I woulden't mind reading a graphic novel with this dudes art style.
you should do a series of this
