The largest city in England (by area) is Carlisle with an area of 1040 square kilometres (402 square miles) (Greater London is not London its a collection of surrounding citys)
In England, a population of 100,000+ is a city, so a lot of them are cities. The other way is by royal designation/cathedral diocese. Example: Bath has a population a bit under 100,000 but has a cathedral. Huddersfield is bigger than Bath, but is still designated as a town. So between the two it makes most sense to go by the 100k rule.
@@sailing_raptor Pedantic. City is a place where a lot of people live. No one asking 'is it a town or a city?' needs the answer 'the Queen has designated it by statute'. @@donmontague4107 We live in a parliamentary democracy - no statutory decisions are made by Royalty. The King or Queen are merely used as figureheads.
